    I'd rather see Hunter as a bench coach. I feel he would be able to work more closely one on one with the players as well as gain managerial experience.

    But the real question is: is it the hitting coaching or the level of talent the hitting coach has to work with?

    The only solace I can take from this awful season is Twins are not going to lose 100 games and despite how poorly they have performed they will not finish in last place.

    IMO, the Brewers should be the model the Twins aspire to. With payroll almost 1/2 of the Twins opening day payroll they have the best record in baseball and have won each of the series with the other current 5 division leaders: Blue Jays, Astros, Tigers, Dodgers, and Phillies. At one time they had all 5 opening day starters on the IL and now have 5 relievers, including their 2 frequent closers, out with injuries. By the way, the Brewers very effective closer use to be a Twin: McGill.

    2 weeks ago I didn't think it was possible to "catch" the White Sox. Now I am not so sure.

    Just what I would expect when you pitch 3 pitchers with ERA's above 6.50 and use 5 "hitters" (and I use that term loosely) batting under .210.

    And unfortunately it still stinks this season.

    But the question is, can he hit?? As most Twins cannot. When the A's roll out 3 pitchers yesterday with ERA's over 4.00 and the Twins collect 5 hits, that isn't going to get it done. And we have seen it over and over again.

    I'm not concerned about the pitching. It's the offense that needs serious improvement. The first 2 games of the struggling Yankees the Twins combine to put up a total of 4 hits. Last night the last 3 batters in the lineup had averages of .130, .186, and .167.

    The real problem isn't the Pohlad's wouldn't spend money but in how and who they invested it in. The Tigers payroll is about $400,000 more than the Twins and the Brewers payroll is about $27 million LESS than the Twins----and the Brewers have the best record in baseball as of August 1.

    The bullpen "was" a strength. the Twins problem was not being able to hit, especially with runners in scoring position and the position player movement was minimal.

    Totally agree with your first comments. For 2 seasons twins have basically played with the same lineup of position players with very underwhelming results. It is time for somebody to evaluate each individual player and make some tough decisions. I'd certainly include each member of the coaching staff as well.

    And sadly the Twins recently lost 2 of 3 to the Rockies and are in danger of doing the same vs the Nationals. The Nationals came into this series with the worst reliever ERA in MLB. The Twins have proceeded to score 1 run in 8.1 innings vs their relievers during the first 2 games of the series. I was excited about the hitting coach change the Twins made after last season only to see more feudal hitting this season. I obviously isn't the hitting coaches fault. Time for some changes.

    I still believe, on paper, the Twins are miles ahead of the Brewers. Yet the Brewers have the best record in MLB and we know where the Twins are. Brewer manager, Murphy, is getting all he can our of a bunch of unknown players.
