Twins Sign Carlos Correa

So the Yankees fans are pissed because Cashman paid $25 million of the $35 million contract.  Even if he opts out after 1 year, we have big payroll flexibility still.  Need to get Montas now and go for it!

My initial (skeptical) reaction is they cleared a billion dollars in cap room for what could essentially be a 1 year contract.  Correa can't possibly think the twins are going to win this season.

This team still needs a ton of work on the pitching front to be considered legitimately competitive.

That said, any time you can add a guy who had a 7.2 WAR season the year before, that's not a bad thing. Great job to get this done and hope they keep going.

I'm shocked. Correa was the pipe dream.  The Twins do not do this.   2nd biggest contract to a middle infielder EVER.   Insane.

So you saw this and went immediately to worse case reaction?  Not.... Holy **** we just signed a Top 3 player in baseball.

Worst case scenario - We don't get the pitchers we need to be competitive and we trade him to a big market for a HUGE haul at the trade deadline this year and we roll with Lewis or Martin next year at the 7.

Great day to be a Twins Fan!

Respect for our Front Office simply exploded - Keep up the good work guys!

What a nice surprise to roll over to at 2am this morning. Never considered Correa to be an option. Would have to assume a pitching trade for Montas or Manea as well as signing a Cueto-type starter would be in the works as well

The thought that enters my mind is the belief by the FO that the pitching prospects in the farm system will begin to produce this year. They must have felt they didn't have salary room for the premium guys that signed prior to the lockout and that their internal options were ultimately better than paying for the Michael Pinedas of the free agent world.

Prior to the lockout... Donaldson was still on the books.

After the lockout... We need those internal options to become something... so if they feel those options are better than the Pinedas of the world... You and I should both be happy.

We really really really really need those guys to develop and start taking that step up.

Having your 2 most important defensive positions filled by perpetual all stars in Buxton and Correa makes this team worth watching for sure. I didn't think there was any way we could get this guy, so I will give the front office credit. Thought it was going to take more years to get him.

The opt outs suck, he basically is here on a 1-year deal, but either way it's neat having the Twins be the team to land him.

Pardon me for saying this, but my first words when I woke up just now ... Holy ****! Correa?

I mean ... wow, okay. What's next, Montas AND Manea????

Now trade either Martin or Lewis for Montas.

Posted different trade scenario on a different thread, but if Twins can get Montas in straight up for either Martin or Lewis--------get the deal done.  No way do you give up both.  Furthermore, Balazovic is not dealt.  I still think OAK would take the following deal:

Arraez

Simon Woods-Richardson

AND any 2 from the following group of 5:

Jhoan Duran

Blayne Enlow

Louie Varland

Keone Cavaco

Brent Rooker

Might be a stretch of an overpay.......but this deal would allow Twins to keep Martin, Lewis, Winder and Balazovic,

So ... any story (no pun intended but I guess it works?) on why the pivot? I'd heard speculation prior to this that Story was waiting for Correa to sign, that if he didn't go back to Houston, it was a spot that Story was interested in. So, maybe the pivot was that Story just wouldn't commit anywhere and the Twins just up and went elsewhere? Still wonder what the offers Story received and if now he will have less leverage? Or more? I want to hear the end of this one

So we didn't give up anyone in signing Correa?  I thought I read we sent some players to Houston.

He was a free agent.  He didn't belong to Houston.

True

But... A draft choice will go to Houston.

And a Donaldson will go to New York.

I hate to be that guy... But a massive problem with this signing just occured to me.

Again I hate to be that guy... But...

Nick Gordon wears #1

If Correa wants #1 that badly, I'm sure he can offer Nick a new Mercedes and the two can sort it out amongst themselves.

I don't know... This is exactly how the Beatles lost their drummer.

We lose our third highest pick.

I thought they got rid of comp picks for FA signings? I will admit, I'm not completely up on all the changes

I thought it was tied to the international draft? The owners get the draft the players lose the BS about comp picks?
