Sam Dyson to IL

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen anything like this in all my following baseball. Maybe it has happened, but I can't remember.

Tough start for Sam as a Twin. Let's hope he comes back soon, healthy and effective! Really glad they got Romo and also gives credence to the old saw "you can't ever have enough pitching".

I wonder if we would have a case against the Giants here. Probably not. It's very possible they were not even aware of an existing injury.

I actually feel bad for Falvey, having to relay that news. Because I sure hope they didn't think that makes this whole case look better, it doesn't.

Well, it's like they say, "In Baseball, you see something new every day." I don't recall anything more disastrous than this and I have been an avid fan since 1991.

His last outing for SF was just fine, right? 1 hit in 1 IP, earning a Hold.

We broke him. No refunds. :)

Did Falvey give any indication of the nature of the injury?

Falvey thought Dyson was probably hurting before the trade (words to that effect) but then also said he only expects this to go 10 days. So, make of that what you will. It’s radio, where words fly a little looser than print.

Sid was only half-alert during the Falvey segment, but made an interesting comment afterwards—don’t they give these guys physicals when they show up anymore?

Well, when you go from plane to mound, guess there wasn't time.

You would have thought it would have lowered the price on Dyson in the trade talks if they thought he was hurting before the trade.

Bret Boone comes to mind.

Call it luck, or whatever you’d like to call it. But this is the difference between the Astros and Twins right now.

They acquire Aaron Sanchez off the scrap heap (6+ ERA) and he comes in and combines for a no hitter. We acquire a guy with a long track record who comes in and nearly blows two games then hits the IL.

What kind of aircraft did you fly on to cause that injury?

I think this is the punchline to the punchline of the "and boy are my arms tired" joke.

Don’t know anything about this malady but is it possible that the circus of events for him set this up, such as fatigue, adrenaline, and over pitching? In any case, this may be a blessing as he’ll have time now to reset and start anew when he returns, hopefully.

I’m fine with this as long as he’s effective when he gets back.

Is this only the second reliever to hit the IL this year? That’s crazy!

Well, now with our Dyson broken we can go back to sweeping like we did earlier in the season. :)

A highly reliable Youtube video says that The Shark is a better value than Dyson, so maybe the Twins should start hoping that lefty PH Gerardo Parra becomes available as a waiver acquisition.
