Duffey is done... right?

Well, the starting pitching was pretty good (except for Dean) in the Yankee series. Actually, this trip through the rotation was good for Gibson, Nolasco, and Santana. Berrios could get another shot (only candidate on the 40-man). Dean has to stay in AAA unless there is a disabled list transaction.

Hitting corners repeatedly different breaking pitches is extremely difficult to maintain.  Feel comes and goes.  Duffey needs to go back to the studio and write a few more songs or he'll be a 1 hit wonder.

Let go of Dean and/or Duffey and let's look at Wheeler, or maybe even given Logan Darnell another ride. Mastro could also come off the 40-man.

But, yes, instead of just cycling thru pitchers, let's take a strong look at the next run of prospects. Go ahead and advance someone from AA who you expect to add to the 40-man.

Or, better yet, let's have May in the swing of things. Bring him back as a starter!

Sadly, most disappointing effort by Duffey. Glad he sold his soul to those investors!

My ultimate goal would be to get May back in the rotation without bouncing around Berrios or Wheeler.

Duffey can hold that place. With an injury (possibly to Duffey), Dean can return for a few starts.

They can try to stretch out Rogers. Duffey's next start is Sunday. They can have the bullpen take the game Sunday led by Rogers. They'll need the fifth starter again the next Saturday. Go with Rogers or bring back Dean. Don't waste a 40 man move on Darnell for a few starts.

A few starts in the short term from Duffey (or Rogers or Dean) and giving May a shot in the second half rotation is my plan. Give Berrios and Wheeler a longer stretch in AAA.

I was pretty high on the Duff train but I think he needs to get things right in triple A.  I think he will come back better after gaining more confidence in his pitches.

Remember when people were suggesting, not totally implausibly, that he would be our All-star rep?

I know, now it's going to be Suzuki! Twice in three years!

Duffey is a relief pitcher; two excellent pitches, not a third. One inning at a time, and he would be dominant. He and Chargois, together again.

Exactly!  Duffey is a decent pitcher.  If he could ever develop a changeup to go with that curve he’s starting material.  The problem right now is that hitters have figured him out.  They know his cues when he’s about to throw the curve and just lay off that pitch.  Everything else is a fastball so it’s much easier to predict.

This is why I didn’t understand the Trevor May demotion.  Guy has 4 solid pitches (4 seam FB, curve, changeup and occasionally a slider and sinker).  In short he definitely is a starter and is being wasted in the bullpen.  Question is have the Twins ruined him by messing with his head this much.

I would hope not there.  I'm going with the theory that his problems this year are related to his injury.

I agree on Wheeler at this point. I'm not totally giving up on Duffey at this point, but yes, he may be better as a RP.

All the more reason to stretch out May and get him back in a rotation somewhere!!!

I'd rather give Wheeler a shot at this point over Berrios, despite Berrios's stuff and potential. Hes been pitching much better lately, and I'd like to see him continue and stay in a good groove. Maybe mid-July?

There are 40-man issues with Darnell, Albers, and Wheeler. All have been DFAed once and so would be lost if sent back to the minors. I don't think any of them have options, although it is possible that Wheeler does. That Dean was sent down before he was out of the shower after getting rocked by the Yanks tells me that the Twins want him available as soon as possible to return to the team. Is it ten days he has to wait? Whatever, I expect Duffey would be replaced by Dean after one more start. They could get fancy and use a BP by committee or someone could get put on the DL.

I want to see Berrios, but I think it makes sense for him to get it together in Rochester and dominate before he gets another recall.

This.   The 40 man is a mess if we demote Duffey and try and add new people.   I agree with the notion, that we extend May out on his rehab (which they won't do).   Wheeler is Dean, Dean is Albers, and Albers is Wheeler.   Really no difference and none of them should be on a 40 man roster on a bad team.   However we are really bad and have to wait for Dean's 10 days before he can come back up.  Adding more soft tossing lefties to the 40 man does not make sense.   Then again, the way the roster has been managed we should absolutely expect something like this.

I would let Berrios come back up here and take his lumps, or leave Duffey in until May is ready.

Duffey should keep starting for the exact same reason argued for May- his peripherals are there. Let's give regression time to work in a lost season before tossing aside the Duffman. The HR/FB rate is atrocious.

Again, insanely odd, ass-backwards logic from the FO.  On what planet is Duffey the guy that starts and May is the guy in the bullpen?  The swap is incredibly obvious.

No reason to "dump" Duff.  Just use him as he should be used--in the pen with Chargois again.

I'd be fine with taking a look at Jason Wheeler, but Logan Darnell and his 3.9 K/9 seems like a waste of a 40-man move.

How would you like to be Molitor?? "Terry, I need somebody else, we can't keep dipping into the bullpen by the 4th innning!!! Duffey needs to go back to AAA for some head shrinking!!!"

Terry -- "I don't have anybody better to call up"

Paul -- "nobody better than Duffey, a guy that can't go 4 innings??!!!!!! (*&^%$^&"

Terry, to himself -- "better hide the razor blades".

So you would have rather stuck Duffey in the pen to start the season? He had a 3.10 ERA with an 8.2 K/9 last year. He definitely deserved another shot as a starter.

Rumors says that Jake Odorizzi is available. This would be a good start at rebuilding the starting staff. Not an ace but would likely be our best starter, he will cost but he's under control  for 3 more years.

Jose Berrios says hi.

I agree, i would have started Duffey in the rotation, based on last year. However, I would have also had May in the rotation, and Gibson, and Santana, and Hughes, and Nolasco....so, um, I have a problem here.....

However, I don't believe in Duffey, so he'd have a very short leash as a starter.

Yes, I would've (assuming we're talking May vs Duffey).  Because a sample size of 10 games is not meaningful at all.  In today's game you need more than 2 pitches to survive in the Majors as a starter long term
