I can agree, but it also was the most likely way to slam the door and assure that only one guy was needed for the middle of the order.
 

To pick on Topa, since he threw the fewest pitches yesterday, if he starts the ninth and gives up a run or two and you still have to go to the closer, that really hurts.

Just want to add that CC and Buxton are in concussion protocol, doesn't mean they necessarily have concussions. Hopefully we know more tomorrow. 

Does anyone know how the protocol works? They wouldn't have to go on the IL would they? Do they just get an exemption for a few days until cleared?

Never thought I'd ever say this, but having some position flexibility with Bride and Clemens at least allows to have a bench and actually start 9 guys. She's what a mess!

I really don't want to bring up Miranda or Julien as I'd rather see them playing daily at St Paul. Does Fitzgerald or Holland get moved to the 40 man temporarily and come up? I think they might promote Gasper again. But does this get McCusker up for a look see?

Guess I just answered my own question with a quick search. Sounds like 7 day IL if a concussion is confirmed. A move to the 10 day is warranted if they don't pass certain tests.

So looks like both could be out 7 days minimum depending on initial test results this afternoon/evening. Hopefully...for their sake as well as the Twins...both were just badly shaken up. But there's a decent chance either or both are out for a week or so.

At a minimum, most will have to admit that this is the Paddack that the Twins found reason to keep. Even if he regresses, I'm not calling the front office bad for this decision and seeing what he has this year. Wow Paddack, keep this up!

Fitzgerald would make sense to call up and then DFA in a week or two (he is playing great at AAA but I don't know much about his D). At his age, he probably passes through back to AAA. If the Twins call up him and McCusker, how do you make room on the 40 man roster (Tonkin and Gasper - may be a decision between calling up Gasper or DFA'ing him?) I also assume McCusker wouldn't be DFA'd.

Payton Eeles is on a rehab assignment in Ft. Myers (Mussels). There are options to try. Miranda, Julien, and Gasper won't add anything at this point. 

I'm hoping for a dose of McCusker.

I watched several ST games this year and was impressed with Fitzgerald's defense. No clue if that means his defense is really as good as I saw, but I liked what I saw. Despite raking at AAA, I have no great belief he's going to bring much with the bat. And I like Lee just fine as a fill in at SS. But if they DID bring up Fitzgerald, it would allow Lee to keep moving to all 3 spots. And it's possible we need Castro more in the OF now depending on CC and Buck's injury situation. 

They'll probably bring up Gasper instead as it's a smoother roster move.

But we're also not sure about Bader at the moment. Hopefully it's just a couple days off issue and he'll be ready the next couple of days.

But this also might mean McCusker coming up depending on the OF situation. 

As to the 40 man, there are a couple 60 day moves they can make to add whoever they want. But again, Gasper is the "easy" move to make for 1 spot.

Call up Gaspar.  He's hitting a ton.  Place Tonkin on the 60 day and give McCusker a shot.

“Paddack needs to go - what the hell didn’t they shed Paddack’s salary and get something of worth for the future - how can anybody think Baldelli can manage this team to some competitive level”…………...it’s still early, I get it, haven’t made the playoffs yet. However, it was “even earlier” on April 15th when the lynch mob started circling……it was ridiculous!!

I liked keeping Paddack at $7M - didn’t think he’d be effective past 120 innings - still very leary of him getting past July pitching every 5th turn. I liked keeping him being a max effort guy out of the pen with Festa, SWR, & Matthews filling the #4 & #5 spots.

Gotta tip the hat to Paddack as his mental approach and command seem to be improving every outing!! …..not here should probably tip the hat to Rocco as well.

A lot of good suggestions for replacements above.  However, it sure seems like something is messed up with Miranda's head and time in Saint Paul has not been the remedy.  Julien is only slightly ahead of him.  They each had their chance to start the season and have done nothing to show they are ready to return.

2019 Paddack was pretty great.

Last year Wallner was sent down and had a very rough stretch there. He was sent out on April 15. By the end of May his AAA triple slash was 190/285/394 after 165 plate appearances. The comments about him at that point are similar to those about Julien and Miranda now. Be patient. Change is hard and hitting is hard. Changes often result in going backwards before moving forward and it takes time. I would give Julien and Miranda that time and leave them in AAA but not give up optimism of their upside if they struggle the for a long stretch.

Gasper on the other hand really hasn’t had a long enough stretch in the majors to make any judgment based on his batting line. I would call him up and believe he is capable of giving the Twins competitive at bats.
