  1. Calvin's "regime" created two World Series champions? What am I missing? He had sold the team before the 1987 and 1991 titles-yes? Are you assuming that he laid the groundwork for them somehow even though he sold the team in 1984? Otherwise, I think he was a batboy for the Senators when they won it in 1924...but he shouldn't get too much credit for that!
  2. With Larnach, and Wallner as well, when they hit 'em they stay hit...lots of power there.
  3. Yeah, Buxton is a streaky player, but he's a year older now and has been cold for quite a while...he wasn't worth much in the World Baseball Classic either. He was great last year and will likely come around soon, although you never can tell.
  4. An amazing series! Let's see: I mocked Gray and he hits a grand slam; I called for Lee to be sent back to St. Paul and he wins a game; I told Peter that the Twins would be lucky to win one from Detroit and we swept them! If I keep this up we might win a pennant...or rather, I suppose I should I say that we have no chance of that-yes?
  5. Poor Lee, he looks like he's in a bit of a stupor at times. I think that a hitch in St. Paul may be in the offing for him.
  6. The Blue Jays are reeling at the moment: they are 4-5 (one game better than us) and were just swept by the White Sox. They may still be suffering a hangover from a World Series wherein, if only Kiner-Falefa had run through home plate and not slid, they would now be world champions! So the Twins might take that series. It will be tough to win more than a game against Detroit and their strong (Skubal and Valdez) lefty pitching, however.
  7. Dave, it feels every bit that bad! Even Buxton I wearing a tight collar. Not very many "professional at bats" either, the kind the Yankees almost alway take!
  8. And I'm suffering the ignominy of having claimed on Thursday that Gray was "not ready for primetime." Maybe I can have a little credit for an effective use of the "reverse jinx"?
  9. JD, Egg on my face after the grand slam! I'm old enough (God knows) to know better than to make such unqualified pronouncements early in a baseball season. Good for the kid...this team may give us more thrills this season than anyone expected.
  10. When Bell hits 'em, like Killebrew in the day, they go high and long and are gone without a doubt. We had to urge the homers by Wallner and Clemens out of the park in the ninth last night but on Bell's shot we just sat and appreciated it.
  11. Old Hat, I'm not as pessimistic as some but I do agree that shortstop will be a black hole until management sees fit to bring up Kaelen Culpepper or makes a blockbuster trade which, of course, is not likely. I fear that Lee has hit the peak of his career already and is fading fast. He could end up as just a memory soon, like Miranda. And I certainly don't want to see him back at short. Caratini made a laughable base running blunder, but do we know if the new coach urged him on? If so he needs a talking to. Gray is, I feel, simply not ready for primetime. Clemens, on the other hand, has too much value as a gritty player with some power and a good attitude to forsake at this point.
  12. I have friends in Denver...it can be kind of a mellow place. I think some dudes, etc. from LA have relocated and there's a kind of a laid back vibe in certain sectors. Also, have you taken in a game at Coors Field on a sweet summer evening? it's a beautiful place with a beautiful view and it's hard to get too distressed in my humble opinion.
  13. Maybe trade Wallner to the Yankees? They might be able to get the most out of his lefty power especially with that short porch (314' down the line) in right field.
  14. Agree 100%...what a strange cat he is! I'm not sure that I care if he clears waivers.
  15. Ah, but look at you now, and the Twins are still buying ramen!
  16. How do we feel about the acquisition of Josh Bell?
  17. Thanks for the info. There's a chance that a change of scenery from the woeful White Sox might revive the talented, underachieving, Robert. Time will tell...
  18. Could Luis Robert (who will turn 29 next season) be pried from the White Sox grasp for some young Twins? Would you, as president of baseball operations, consider pursuing that?
  19. Rocco was a victim, I think, of some of his faulty concepts and a genuine inflexibility regarding them. I will not miss him as a manager, but I wish him well. It's 7 below out tonight, but only about 60 days until pitchers and catchers report, so we've got that going for us!
