  1. Some manageable teams coming up in June...take three from KC and two from Detroit and we are solidly back in the mix at least for a wild card spot. Oh...and a sweep of Chicago tomorrow would be sweet!
  2. How about this: make a deal with him, if he reaches an .850 OPS the eye black stays until he slips below it? How about that?
  3. dj, we can't know for sure, but he's always appeared very sincere to me. He's one of those guys who really seems to love playing the game as far as I can tell. Again, I'm just guessing, but Larnach seems to be his polar opposite in terms of apparent zeal and expressiveness. I just can't figure out what makes Trevor tick..
  4. Please leave me Jeffers...for the love of God SD Tom, leave me Jeffers!
  5. The guy has an incredible upside and we've seen it. I'd keep him in St. Paul throughout June and if he stays hot bring him back to the Twins. I think that he lost his confidence in the Bigs and is regaining it in St. Paul. If confidence was primarily what he's been lacking then his time in the minors could set him straight again.
  6. Yeah, Ryan was bitten by the White Sox home run bug--I think they score in the neighborhood of 45% of their runs on homers! The Sox are fast becoming a good team and any win over them strangely has an orgiastic feel to it.
  7. MLB outfielders need to know how to shield the sun from their eyes while tracking a fly ball...period! Isn't that something that players learn by the time they leave Little League? Larnach, the college slugger who has lost his power this season, is not new to the outfield as he played both corner spots while at Oregon State and with the Twins. On the fly ball today that dropped 10 feet in front of him he looked like a novice out there. That just can't happen. He obviously didn't track the ball well at all...if he had he'd have been closer to the landing spot and would not initially have run back on the ball. I'm sure some of us have experienced tough sun days in the outfield: one can usually follow the ball long enough using the glove as a shield to gain a good position (especially on "cans of corn" such as Larnach failed to catch today). Then you need to wait until the ball clears the sun as it always does before it hits the glove. It takes a little courage and a little know how, and for $4,475,000 a year Trevor ought to be able to make a better effort than the one today that cost his team 5 runs in a 10-9 loss! He's a decent hitter and a fine, unassuming fellow, but today he made a very unprofessional play that likely cost his team (a team that fought back bravely) a game that they could have won.
  8. Almost certainly, I would guess...sadly, he's lost it.
  9. Cruz had to have short-hopped that homer into the Allegheny...what a beast!
  10. A Five Man Electrical Band reference to cheer me a bit after a gut-punch of a loss!
  11. Elbow problems are often killers...they almost never seem simply to go away after some rest. With the speeds these guys are throwing today there's so much torque applied to that joint and its ligaments that it's a wonder any can stand the strain for long. Sadly, I can't imagine that the Brewers' fast ball prodigy (Misiorowski) will be able to whip the ball with abandon for too much longer...but time will tell. And I certainly hope that I'm wrong in the case of Rojas.
  12. The Twins shouldn't, and won't, simply release SWR, but some serious work needs to be done a.s.a.p. to make him rotation worthy again. For starters (n.p.i.) he needs the confidence to control the zone...too many nibbling balls and just plain non-competitive pitches of late!
  13. I think they hit over .300 as a team against us in these four, mostly dismal, games.
  14. I've been watching MLB since 1958 and that was the shortest ump I've ever seen! By the way, she did a great job. She called the close play on Larnach at the plate correctly (a tough call, indeed) and even had the courage to end the game on a pitch that barely scraped the top of the zone, and again she was proven right. "Diamonds are a girl's best friend!"
  15. Random thoughts after a sweet win: Buxton's home run crossed the river and landed in Charlestown. Clemens pulled an 0-5 and short-armed a foul pop on the night his Dad was honored...bummer! Fortunately for Jackson he grounded out to third in his last at bat to avoid the Golden Sombrero. Mickey Gasper looks like someone associated with the Sacco and Vanzetti case. He really does. Martin caught that ball at the furthest point of the Fenway outfield...nice grab, too! Finally, this team may not be great but it's been interesting watching their evolution this season.
  16. If we stay near .500 there should be a chance for a wild card run. Not a contender for a World Series title, of course, but for the playoffs. Maybe the Twins winning 80ish games seems far fetched to you, but it's certainly not impossible, and doing so makes them a "contender" for the playoffs. I'm "sure about that."
  17. NJ, yes, the Twins will stay "in it" at least for a wild card spot if they can hover around .500 for the season, and I certainly think that 85 wins will do the trick. That goal is not impossible for a team that, despite the injuries, seems to be finding some answers as the season progresses including, dare I say it, some hope for the bullpen. Regarding Cleveland: they almost always seem to excel even with injuries and roster losses due to a certain intensity and tenacity, I think. Or maybe it's witchcraft, or the amazing Jose Ramirez (which may be the same thing!) whose superhuman intensity is painted on his face. We took them 2 out of 3 in Cleveland, but they are on a run now and we must stay as close as possible until they cool off a bit, which of course they will.
  18. Yeah, Shelton seems like an old=school baseball guy while Baldelli, although a very talented player, seemed to be on some different psychological plane. I wish Rocco well, but am glad he's moved on to LA.
  19. Hubris? Yeah, I agree...didn't his career tank shortly after he proclaimed: "I don't do slumps?" I'm not happy about his decline and fall, but he can't play in the bigs as he is.
