Correa: What If The Giants And Mets Were Right?

C4 is missing the All-Star game with a sore foot.   He had reduced production last year because of pain in his feet.  Can anyone here make us feel better about this NOT being a chronic problem with the Twins FOOTING the bill?

He proved his worth in ‘22 and then it was thought the Twins could never afford him. Things changed with the medical diagnosis.

He has a plate in an ankle - that’s my recollection of the injury with long-term risk. You might get Plantar Fasciitis next week. Not connected if plate’s in one leg and he’s had the foot problem on both sides - right?

He’s in Top 10 in BA & close in OPS…..probably a Top 10 “leader” in Baseball as well. I’m not a rah rah fan of his, but his signing and the results are extremely positive.

If its chronic,  don't you think it would be in the same foot?  Since it is not,  and not as severe as last year,  Im not too worried about.  Looks like a way to get correa a good rest to go into the 2nd half of the season.

Nothing wrong with your discussion.  Maybe not the best headline. But after a healthy 22 season he's had planters fascist I tis 2 years running. So as he ages will he be able to remain healthy for the duration of his contract?  The Giants and the Mets weren't wrong. 12 and 13 years were crazy numbers that should have never even been offered. The Twins with 6 years isn't entirely risk free. But realistically it shouldn't be an issue.

I'd agree with this.  A longer contract would likely go bad (frankly, for just about any player) and what the Giants and Mets were originally willing to sign was very risky.

There are no risk-free contracts, even for 6 years, and like you I am concerned about the recent plantar news, but I'm still optimistic that this will turn out to be a good contract for the Twins, even if Carlos misses some time or has to play through pain at times the rest of the season (which I think is somewhat likely).

He's under guaranteed contract for only four more years and he's five years younger than when the Twins signed Josh Donaldson to his four year deal. Next year is Correa's big money year, which based on the youthful construction of the team seems about perfect. The years after that drop in salary dramatically, particularly the option years.

Every non-skin-flint team in the league would be happy to take this contract right now.

My understanding is what came up in the medicals for the Giants and Mets was the plate in his ankle. Plantar Fasciitis is on the bottom of the foot so I doubt the problems are related

His injuries are well documented. I think that regardless of him missing some games he still is a beast. Frankly, I don't care. He has shown some mad skills and is better than any other past signings in the last 5 years.

Actually, I have had plantar fasciitis in my right foot but not my left foot (where I have torn my Achilles).  My Doctor, who also has had PF, says I haven’t had a problem in my left foot because of the release of tension during the Achilles tear.   The exercises she gave me for the PF (they worked) stretched the tendons from my calf muscle thru the bottom of my foot.  It’s all interconnected.

Sure but the plate is on the side of the ankle. Since he has had it in both feet that would kind of suggest he just has PF. Only a doctor would know for sure but I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions based on this info.

Correa is providing value on his contract.  since there is only 4 more years after this year He would need to decline pretty soon to make his deal a bad one.  More than likely we get to year 5 before he starts to slow down.

Yeah I think even if this persists, he has proven in my heart he is a leader and a captain of this team irregardless. We all love Buxton and Lewis but Correa is a Warrior!

The Giants and Mets probably were right, in that signing a 28-year-old to 12 years or more isn't a good idea (though they shouldn't have offered him that in the first place). 

But that doesn't mean the Twins weren't right in offering him six years.

It turns out to be more severe than last years. Just quoting you back in to give you a chance to rethink your statement. I do agree with you that Correa and the Twins need to try resting it. Piecing together all of the scattered reports over the past month leads me to believe that Correa has not been resting, but instead testing, running and working on it this whole time, in hopes of getting back to the team.

I do like this idea too. I think the Twins should absolutely trade Correa this offseason.

I am still ok with this.  The Twins took a different approach of trying to get him back to 100% and giving him more time off with this specific injury which was a different injury than last year,  as in a different foot.  Could this become a recurring injury.  Absolutely,  however when Correa is playing healthy he is a top 25 ball player.  He has a 3.3 War so far this year.  We will see what he end at once he comes back.  He has begun sprinting so likely not too far off of becoming active.  I would be more concerned of health on the pitching front than the hitting front.  Had he been healthy this year he would have been a 5 WAR player.
