Being a MN sports fan is so painful.

Just wait til you get to see Sam Darnold try and navigate the first ten games of the upcoming season. Les Steckel might be popping some champagne

Losing to the Yankees at home I'd bad enough but to not even be competitive.  They didn't even show up for the series.  Terrible outfield play all series long.  They showed no life or desire at all.  It really shows the gap between a decent team like the Twins and a very good team like the Yankees.  Getting swept was bad.  But getting swept in this manner really sucked.

More than anything it showed the drop-off from having Buxton and Lewis in the field. It also shows how bad Baldelli's "right handed" batting order is, both at the plate and in the field. Making plays and preventing runs on defense is also important.

Methinks these two items might be related.

Long time Twins fan.  Tired of wilting whenever the Yankees come to town.  Anemic offense needs to show more plate discipline. Outfield miscues show a lack of focus and perseverance.  Please get mad and knock the snot out of Cleveland.

Outfield miscues are more of a reflection on the lack of talent than lack of focus, The talent in the outfield is a mess and for many was very predictable.

i agree, cowering to the big bad Yankees for two decades is getting really tiring.

It's going to be difficult to be taken seriously around the league when they basically rolled over and played dead during a series at home against a pretty good team.

The 3 losses in themselves don't bother me as much as the fact that they put up little to no fight in any of the three games.  That's very worrisome to me.

What a season it's been!

7-13, followed by 17-3, then averaging one third of a run per game in the Yankee 3 game set.

Staggering swings of the pendulum. It's remarkable how perception can change.

4 and a half months to go, 2 and a half out of first, and currently a wild card.

Sheesh! and the season's only 25% done.

Enjoy the ride. (hurry back, Buxton, Lewis and Stewart)

While I don't ever like getting swept to be dominated like that makes you feel like all hope is lost even if they do manage to make the playoffs.

Like I said in an earlier post, management/owner will be ecstatic to just squeak into the playoffs. They know with this division that they could cut payroll and sign reject free agents and still accomplish that. It was one step better than the Bundy, Shoemaker, Archer, Gallo years. They are going if they do that, they can keep most critics silent. If they were in any other division that wouldn't fly.

I overheard this conversation:

'Psst.... our outfield defense is awful.... no pressure or anything but you can't let them hit any balls into the outfield'

'um yeah... and that official scorer is single handedly trying to reduce my first arbitration salary.... side note... what chance do you think that I can land an outlandish salary with the Yankees when I hit free agency?'

The 1987 World Champion Twins were 18-18 on May 16 1987. The 1991 World Champion Twins were 17-17 on May 16 1991. You never know....that's what we like about sports. Getting our butts kicked by the Yankees is not something we like about sports.

Baldelli needs to throw some bats into the locker room shower, but as far as I can tell he doesn't have that in him. He does some things well, but as an inspirational force he seems sorely lacking: "a man of the system, a number on a page," as a poet once said--he is that, I fear, and little more. No one on the team should feel comfortable after such a drubbing; after three games, that is, filled with town ball fielding and almost casual at bats.

Perhaps this (W.S. Henry V) is apropos:

"In peace there's nothing so becomes a man as modest stillness and humility; but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger; stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with hard-favor'd rage."

Rocco, light a fire...

I wonder if Rocco went to the rulebook to see if it was OK for a pitcher to throw 8 innings? I'm sure he was completely bewildered after the 6th inning.

How many years now has Left field been a black hole.I have lost count of all the players that have been out there after Eddie left.He did seem to throw the ball to the wrong base, but he did catch the ball.Everyone knew Buxton would not be available to play Center the whole season, not resigned MAT was a mistake.

Its time to throw out the sausage, the magic is gone.

NYY pinstripes have a tradition that really affects MN. MN pinstripes has a tradition that needs to be stressed & put into play.

You do know that before the NY series, our starters were throwing the 2nd most innings in the league right?  The idea that Rocco has a quick hook just isn't based on facts.

I really think Kiriloff needs a reset at AAA. Wallner s been hitting well in St Paul. If not him I'd love to see what Keirsey Jr can do at the top level. Varland could be a big boost in our struggling bullpen too...

Seems dramatic - the series absolutely sucked  - however, we’re down our 6th/7th best offensive weapon and CF in Buxton as well as our best hitter in Lewis.

The Yankees are down a diminishing D.J. LaMahue.

Make a catch in LF yesterday (Kirilloff) & remember there’s only 1 out on the fly ball in game 1 (Castro) & we had 2 decent starts v. Yankees. The Yanks are the best team in the A.L. at this point and second best record in baseball. Still embarrassing but not end of the world.

I think Twins will be fine in Playoffs if full strength.

Concerned about Julien - still too many K’s. Were getting production with K’s previously - lately, not much of anything!!

Kirilloff/Wallner/Larnach will give us one decent option in LF by October……this will sort out.

Could use Lee’s bat from Left Side as DH sooner than later………any update on him starting to rehab?

Joey Wallner has 5 home runs with the Saints, and has 43.87 strike out rate,  with a .923 fielding rate; he is not better than when they sent him down.

NY has been without one of the best pitchers in baseball all season....

Jose Barrios has one complete game this year. That's half as many as the Twins have had since 2020. Rocco does have a quick hook. Richardson threw 80 pitches and wasn't allowed to pitch past the 6th inning. Ridiculous.

“Twins don't look much like themselves in sweep”
