  1. He reminds me of Joey Gallo. Big ox with good mobility wedded to trying to hit the ball 500 ft. Casual observation to me is Wallner actually sort of emulates Gallo in the pre-pitch routine. He needs a different role model.
  2. To quote an old-timer I worked with long ago famous for his malapropisms, "It can only it get better, if don't it'll get worse."
  3. Does larnach use a short bat?? Always looked like that to me?
  4. The way these two guys have hit the last 2 years, they'd have to be platinum glove candidates to warrant everyday lineup consideration. Instead, the glove is their weakness. Seems odd they are even still on the radar.
  5. Needing to teach him about the role of the 3rd base coach now that he's in his 8th season of college and pro baseball....I'm getting the feeling he's not a fast learner.
  6. Wallner's approach at the plate even reminds me of Gallo. Like Gallo was his unofficial hitting coach in Wallner's formative years. Would love to see an analysis of this. Gallo had this distinctive dig in the left foot, swing in the right, couple of windmillish swings, bend backwards (Wallner always does this too) and then bat .168 with a.700 ops. Why would you repeat the same approach so faithfully for hundreds of at bats with such lousy results?
  7. Yes, the low homer to RBI stat has always been a marvel to me. The stars really have to align to have a sub 1 homer/2rbi ratio with 20 homers. If the season ended today I think he'd set a record.. He's "ahead" of the likes of Kevin Maas and Chris Hoiles. You need a disproportionate number of your hits to be homers with no tablesetters in front of you. Sprinkle in a low risp. https://www.baseball-reference.com/blog/archives/10785.html
  8. Sometimes I get this feeling Wallner watched too closely on how Joey Gallo went about his business. Superficially, there's a giant man swagger they share and some similarities in their pre-pitch routine.
  9. That Diego Cartaya got 65 PA this year is also quite a testament to catching starved systems. Uff da.
  10. 5 earned runs on no hits and 2 walks pitching line in a box score has to be some kind of first. Aided by 3 hbps and get pulled and then a grand slam.
  11. I haven't been reading here a lot for a while so I'm sure you're right.. Maybe I am surprised he is even being analyzed to this extent until he shows something in the minors
  12. Seems like people aren't really acknowledging how abysmal Julien was last year. Julien's numbers last year (.616 OPS) -- how did he get 300 plate appearances? - make Joey Gallo's 2023 (.741) look acceptable....and Gallo could play defense. I couldn't stand Gallo. Julien's could snap out of it or totally crash and burn. It's like he has the yips.
  13. It must have been 2010 playoffs against the Yankees. I was listening to the Yankees pregame radio show and they were talking with John Gordon. Duensing had had a very decent season and was starting the game that day. Asked about Duensing, Gordon said something in a droll voice along the lines of the numbers were a little misleading and he's very average, nothing special. My impression was Gordon was trying to impress the New York crew with some honesty. (Pretty sure he worked in New York before coming to the Twins.) It was like overhearing a private conversation. Never liked Gordo's cheery, fakey, vague play by play schtick, but this was a side of him that seemed to make him sound like a bit of jerk.
  14. I had the sound turned off. Where was Vazquez going when he got doubled off first on a fly to right? Seemed like the game turned when against Yates we stopped swinging at balls.
  15. I only saw the video on the Twins app after putting on my CPAP and over the gentle whirring of the machine it sounded a little like someone is yelling "balk, balk" or something similar and then the balk is called.
  16. Team OPS of .617...and that includes a handful of guys they traded. Jeff Reboulet's career OPS was .649. Glenn Borgmann .630. It's like facing a lineup of Ben Rortvedts (.615).
  17. I'm very confident they are going to draft <insert name here> who they are surprised and delighted was still available.
  18. The 1987 World Champion Twins were 18-18 on May 16 1987. The 1991 World Champion Twins were 17-17 on May 16 1991. You never know....that's what we like about sports. Getting our butts kicked by the Yankees is not something we like about sports.
  19. Overly specific small sample size (OSSSS), but Buxton with 4 Ks in 19 I really like. He's not trying to do too much.
  20. I'm starting to suspect Buxton is injury prone. 10/13/23 Knee surgery 8/2/23 Hamstring 6/24/23 Back 6/1/23 Ribs 5/20/23 Leg 8/22/22 Hip 8/2/22 Knee 7/23/22 Knee 5/7/22 Hip 4/15/22 Knee 6/21/21 Hand 5/6/21 Hip 4/26/21 Knee 4/15/21 Hamstring 4/4/21 Illness 9/26/20 Concussion 8/20/20 Left shoulder 7/13/20 Left Foot 9/10/19 Shoulder 8/2/19 Shoulder 7/13/19 Concussion 6/14/19 Wrist 5/28/19 Knee 5/30/18 Fractured great left toe 4/17/18 Migraine 4/15/18 Migraines
  21. Keirsey...I don't think he's in the TD top 20 prospects. He's stealing bases, apparently very good defensively and hit respectably in AAA at the end last season. What is keeping back from a higher ranking? Not debating it, just curious. Too old to be a top prospect?
