  1. I'm with you and I said a while ago that Bundy reminded me of the Phil Hughes toward the end.
  2. Agree with rankings. Bundy reminds a wee bit of Phil Hughes and not in a good way.
  3. Memorable and bizarre night all around.
  4. I was a college freshman in the area and ended up at this game. It was a surreal evening for a few reasons. Mainly, surreal because it seemed like a tornado was hitting the dome (I'm sure I had a few American domestics in me but nothing stronger than that). Speakers swaying and then the teflon section -- I think over the right field nosebleed seats -- started filling up with water and sagging and then -- splash! I'll have to look up the game to be sure, but I think the Twins had a healthy lead going into the weirdness and then aggressively lost the game with long balls and such. The other weird part of the night was for some reason a friend and I walked back to the dorm at St Thomas. Not exactly a short walk and encountered some rambunctious folks along the way. Surreal. Okay...just looked up the game. The Angels scored 6 runs in the top of the 9th to win 7-6. Frank Viola went 8 and pitched to 2 batters in the 9th and the Ron Davis ???took over. RD struck 2, walked 1, and 3 hits including 2 dingers.
  5. I know we'd much prefer to still have Rogers and also somehow have Paddock, but of course that ain't how things work. Rogers is off to a good start, but he did blow a save for the Padres recently and last year converted 9 of 13 save opportunities for the Twins. Wish we still had him, but he wasn't exactly Bruce Sutter in his prime for us.
  6. It would make sense that a trade for pitching could safely include anyone other than Polanco from the players mentioned in this post and in the comments.
  7. What is Celestino's floor/ceiling offensively and defensively?
  8. Is there an eyes wide open, objective assessment of Miranda's defense at 3rd? Before buckets and buckets of more virtual ink are spilled considering these dilemmas, it would be good to know if Miranda can actually play a legit major league 3rd base. It seems like below average fielders get described as average until they make it to the major leagues and play 50 games and then they start getting called liabilities. I I guess what I'm saying is Please don't tell me he's adequate if he he's below average.
  9. I have always had this feeling the Yankees make the Twins throw obvious strikes because they know the umps will tend to not call the close ones when nibbling Twins like Dobber are pitching, especially at Yankee Stadium. I'm glad I wasn't watching. It would have been too painful.?
  10. Huge Twins Daily fan and am grateful for the great work you all do. Sometimes I wonder why photo captions don't include the name.of the person in the picture.
  11. Palacios is listed at 145 Lbs and has 17 homers.. He must take a healthy cut.
  12. In that clip, Varland looks like Jim Palmer with his zipping fastball
  13. Could be we're unofficially tanking? How else can you still have Shoemaker playing.
  14. This game was like a card game of war when your highest card (relief pitcher) is like a 7. No aces, no kings, no queens, etc. Pitchers were completely and hopelessly overmatched.
  15. Picked up my kindle in bed, saw 5-3 bottom of 9th, 0 out, in the ribbon scoreboard on ESPN, tapped it. I must have missed the first few pitches to Polanco, because what seemed like about 2 minutes, single, homer, single, homer. I wonder how much time elapsed between the pitch Polanco hit for a single and the Cruz homer?
  16. I listened to bits and pieces of this game. When Buxton pulled up in the 9th and his obvious replacement would be Cave and then I saw the final score, I thought this is a stick a fork in it type of game. With Arraez out, Kiriloff out, Sano presumably out of shape and closing in on a 50% SO rate, Thielbar pitching in a close game (Waddell pitching in a close game two days ago) and Buxton pulling up with something and Cave is his replacement...it does feel like it is not in the cards this year. Reusse is describing the AAA pitching staff as mostly never were veterans and you can't help but think there needs to be profound reset on the roster. Give us something to hope for. And let some of these guys pitch 6 - 7 innings please. There's nothing quite like an oldish, not very good team to make you think about going to the driving range and Gophers football and start speculating about unrealistic trades for young, affordable aces. Sano, Cave, and Astudillo for Glasnow? I'd say they shoud sign Berrios, sign Buxton, sign Arraez and create some mild optimism and Big Mike, Nellie, Happ, and maybe one of our new relievers can get back on track for a few weeks and send them out to someone who has a chance.
  17. All is forgiven. Rocco is great. Garver ... probably be an all star with that fool-proof, short swing. Dobber is worth every penny. Happy happenings with Happ.
  18. 45 strikeouts combined for Twins and opponents in the last 2 games.
  19. Rosario getting picked off first cuz he's not paying attention and then hitting the dinger. Classic combo.
  20. I think the winner of the World Series this year is going to have a sizable asterisk. All the uncertainty with the schedule, injuries league wide, possible shut downs from COVID, no fans, 7 inning double headers, potential neutral site playoffs...it's hard to imagine going all in being a prudent risk. I might be a little down because of the recent slump, but feels like we should sort of ride this baby out. If someone comes up with an offer you can't refuse with a good pitcher we can control for a few years -- take it. Otherwise, let the chips fall where they may on this oddest of years.
  21. Whatever the solution, I think we need a plus field at either first or third -- one of the two at a minimum. I don't think Sano at 3rd and Garver at 1st does this. If Sano's at 3rd, we need a 1B good enough to mitigate Sano's problems. If Sano's at 1B, we need a 3B good enough to take pressure off Sano at 1B. The only exception might be if Kiriloff comes in a has the potential to get better defensively quickly. I'd put Kiriloff into intensive 1st Base boot camp ASAP.
  22. This was such a mismatch, I was surprised to see the Yankees celebrate the win. I expected them to slap hands and give each other a look like, "Well, preseason game against the nearby DII college. Good thing we dominated."
