Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 The Twins added three players on Sunday night and will add seven more on Tuesday. This article will be updated with each Twins pick, so check back often. Today's portion of the draft, which will include rounds 3 through 10, will begin at 1 p.m. CT. Keep up to date with the new Twins Draft Tracker. Yesterday, the Twins added these three players, and the Twins are thrilled with Day 1! But before we get to the player, here is an interesting new rule that will put these drafted players on the field much sooner than in the past. 1 (8) - Brooks Lee, SS, Cal Poly 21 years old. 6-2, 205. Switch-hitter. Hit: 60. Power: 50. Speed: 45. Field: 50. Arm: 55 Slot money: $5,439,500 Profile / Draft Tracker / Rapid Reaction Video / Draft Article 2 (48) - Connor Prielipp, LHP, Alabama 21 years old. 6-2, 210. Left-handed pitcher. Fastball: 60. Slider: 70. Change-up: 50. Control 55. Slot money: $1,621,900 Profile / Draft Tracker / Rapid Reaction Video / Draft Article CB (78) - Tanner Schobel, SS, Virginia Tech 21 years old. 5-10, 170. Shortstop. Hit: 50. Power: 40. Speed: 50. Field: 50. Arm: 50 Slot money: $1,001,500 Profile / Draft Tracker / Rapid Reaction Video / Draft Article 3 - With their third-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, the Minnesota Twins chose SS Carlos Correa. OK, that's not officially how it works, but when the Twins signed Correa in March, they forfeited their third-round pick in this draft. I would say that's another excellent choice. Jamie Cameron Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Man, just came here to say, what a first day! Twins grab a consensus top 7 players AND one of the pitchers they were linked with for number eight overall. Genuinely amped about that outcome. Also just want to gas up Jeremy. The amount he's put into the threads, the content, the planning etc. for the draft (both here and at Brewer Fanatic) is amazing. Enjoy day two everyone. ashbury, Squirrel, bunsen82 and 19 others 22
roger Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I remain hopeful that they will get at least two catchers later today. And hopefully, one of them will turn out to be both a good one and fast mover. ashbury, operation mindcrime and MN_ExPat 3

tony&rodney Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 The Twins have to be totally amped at their Day 1. Yes, Correa was a good pick too and that was an accurate note to add for yesterday's choices. Second the amazing coverage provided by Jeremy for Twins Daily readers; excellent work. Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 18, 2022 Author Posted July 18, 2022 Appreciate it guys! This wasn't me alone though. Jamie's done just as much and keep Twitter covered last night. And Brock and Seth behind the scenes made everything run smoothly. The draft tracker is super cool. ashbury, operation mindcrime, wabene and 8 others 11
Bctwinsfan Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Outstanding night 1!. Looking forward to what we do today. Hopefully a lot of college pitchers that can be fast movers. Take the Guardians approach. Throw a bunch of darts at projectible college pitchers. ashbury, MN_ExPat, operation mindcrime and 1 other 4

beckmt Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I am more into the BPA, if that happens to be a pitcher fine. Was happy with the picks yesterday and hoping for more of the same today. chpettit19, MN_ExPat and wabene 3
Jamie Cameron Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 For folks interested. Here's some updated on the Consensus Board, which worked pretty well as a first time concept. 63 of the top 70 players on the board were taken in the first 80 picks (aka last night). I only ranked 75 consensus players (and wrote up 56) but that's pretty encouraging preliminary data given how much of a hot mess the draft usually is. Twins don't pick again until 114, but here's the few remaining players on the board and their overall ranking (unless I missed someone which is possible because I got deep into the weeds writing about Prielipp and Schobel last night): Brock Porter - 13 (going to Clemson?) Jonathan Cannon - 52 (RHP, Georgia) Tristian Smith - 61 (LHP, prep) Cameron Smith - 63 (SS, prep) Brady Neal - 64 (C, prep) Brandon Sproat - 68 (RHP, Florida) Gavin Kilen - 70 (SS, prep) Connor Staine - 71 (RHP, Central Florida) Gavin Turley - 72 (OF, Prep) Jake Madden - 74 (RHP, JUCO) Max Martin - 75 (SS, Prep) Sonny DiChiaara - 76 (1B, Auburn) MN_ExPat, Dman, Doctor Gast and 1 other 4
Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Would not having a 3rd round pick effect much the $ available to sign #1 & #2?

The money associated for the 3rd round pick is forfeited along with the pick. Our bonus pool is what our bonus pool is and doesn't factor in that 3rd rounder. wabene and Doctor Gast 2

If that is the case should the Twins have worked out a similar deal at 8 and 68? I like the three they chose but pitching is scarce.

TwinsAce Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Andrew Morris sounds interesting. Slider is best pitch, which matches. Slight pick savings probably?
bunsen82 Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Another Texas Tech pitcher, I was wondering if we might take another shot and Birdsell. DocBauer 1

If they do split the bonus 50/50, both wind up being pick 15. So perhaps that's exactly the deal Boras brokered. Makes sense for both players, especially if Porter was going to drop because of his perceived firm commitment to Clemson.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 His size and stuff looks like a reliever to me, but I'm not complaining about that these days.
Dman Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Not an overly exciting profile for Morris but I rarely like the Twins pitcher picks in this range and they end up doing just fine. Looks like they need to money for Prielipp to me and that is fine if that is what it took to get Lee and Prielipp. TwinsAce, James, wabene and 1 other 4
bunsen82 Verified Member Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Brandon Birdsell if still available would be a smart pick to save money, he is a senior, can't go back again can he? Never mind only a junior but would probably sign to decent contract. Dman 1

I suppose he could go play again in an independent league. His draft value would get lower though as he'd be another year older.

Porter's slot was $560k. The Rangers will shave money of more of their picks and Porter will get Top 12ish money. bunsen82 and DocBauer 2
