Miranda really needs to go abck to St. Paul and do the work. Or, are we waiting to swap him out shortly for the return of Kirilloff. Now down to 13 pitchers, a week early! Garlick to 1B makes a ton of sense, with him handling lefties and Arraez taking on righties. I like that platoon.

I like that platoon. While I agree that there are too many outfielders who would fit in the fourth OF/platoon designation, Garlick hasn't played much first base at all (11 games--70 innings in the minors). Much like starting pitching, injuries and ineffectiveness usually sort this kind of glut out. It really doesn't make sense for Miranda and his .395 OPS to take up a roster spot solely because of his ability to play first base.
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Sanchez has been taking grounders at 1B so they should try him.
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Managers want 14 pitchers, smh, why if you won’t use them? Cano can’t get anybody out, replace him!
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 After 30 pitches in an inning most relievers are toast, odds are against getting out of this now

Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Hmm. Maybe not pulling Cano was a mistake.

I guess maybe they have a different eye to things than we do? Maybe. I'm hoping the plan is to play Lewis around the diamond in St. Paul until 5/31, then bring him up to play every day as a super utility with Urshela taking over the RHh hitting 1B role 2 games a week and giving those games to Lewis at 3B. Miranda goes down for Lewis. Same idea as Celestino last year - give Miranda some time, see he isn't ready, send him down, and then he's ready next year.
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 By the way, Cano demoted yet for Moran? You gotta think that with 18 games in 17 days (15 in 14 eft) that a guy who gets cuffed around and throws 38 pitches to become thus unavailable for at least 2 days is going to be on the train to St. Paul today for a fresher arm.
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Urshela has 7 career innings at 1B so it's unlikely they'd go that route. Let Arraez continue to play 1B almost everyday and then when kiriloff shows he's ready to be back up he can play there. Cano likely goes down in a day or 2 when Coloumbe is back.
FlyingFinn Verified Member Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 When Lewis comes back up, what is Gordon's worth? 3rd CF, 3rd SS, etc. Unless there are injuries, Lewis coming up may be the end of Gordon's Twins days unless nobody claims him.
Diesel Verified Member Posted May 25, 2022 Posted May 25, 2022 I agree on Nick Gordon being expendable. He will play for somebody in the majors, just not sure it is the Twins
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted May 25, 2022 Posted May 25, 2022 Bummer on Ryan. Good thing we have at least a little SP depth. I guess the silver lining is that we can't expect Ryan to throw more than 130 - 150 innings this year given how few he threw last year so I was always expecting that he would start 25 – 28 games, not 32 – 35 games. This might be a good way to limit his innings now during this stretch against weak teams and then probably do it again in say August.

He has hit and played SS well enough that I can see a weaker team looking for a young shortstop taking a chance on him or a better team in desperate need of a utility guy being willing to give us at least a little something for him. I like him as a player but given what we've seen so far from Lewis Gordon's value to the team is a little superfluous so I think his days are numbered.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 25, 2022 Posted May 25, 2022 I apparently merged the Joe Ryan COVID thread and Twins Roster Moves backward. I am hoping to repair my error. Sorry!
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2022 Posted May 25, 2022 So if Correa opts out and Lewis becomes the starting SS, they'll still need a utility type. Gordon fills that role well, Maybe Martin could, but until that determination is made I'd keep Gordon on the team.
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted May 25, 2022 Posted May 25, 2022 That sucks for Ryan. I hope it's a short stay, and he only misses one start. Hopefully, Smeltzer can keep performing in what is becoming quite an important role for him this season.

I figured that Smeltzer would be back to at least start one of the doubleheader games in Detroit on the 31st. He may be up until then anyway with Ryan being sidelined.

Those three plus Garlick as a corner Ofers. Lewis and Arraez are the utility Infielders this year. Next year they will still have Arraez with Steer and Martin ready to take over as utility infielders and both will be better than Gordon. This assumes they trade or non-tender Urshela. I am assuming they can get something for him in trade. Hiopefully they can wotkout a trade for an A baller with some upside for Gordon. Can they trade him for international money?

I'd like to start off with the flurry of moves that happened today: Kirilloff to 10-day IL (right wrist inflammation) Cotton DFA'd Larnach recalled from St. Paul Rodríguez selected from St. Paul So it seems the Cotton experiment is over already - though he may clear waivers. Rodriguez seems like temporary arm who will likely be DFA'd within the next week. Feel free to post more updates here for future roster moves. Kirilloff's wrist is to the Twins what Buxton's knee is to the Twins. The knee is just much more valuable!

(And no one mentioned it there, either, so I moved your comment to that transaction thread. )
