I don't think I'm biased because I would barely bat an eye if the Twins happened to ditch Austin this winter, but I'd much rather have Austin than Bird if for no other reason than you can stick Austin in the OF.

Plus... “never gotten all the way back from his wrist injury” seems like more of a reason to prefer Austin. I mean, eventually that injury should be healed. What is Bird’s excuse? Wait... isn’t Bird always injured?

Kiley McDaniel: He’s somewhere between them, but closer to Manning/Cease. His delivery and strike throwing is closer to average, but still inconsistent

1:33 I think the four teams you named are well qualified within their respective categories. I think most folks actively thought the Rays would be terrible given their trades and injuries, whereas they saw the A's as mediocre, but the distance from expectation to actuality seems pretty similar in both cases. I think the Nationals win the Most Disappointing Team award, hands down — they were supposed to have a shot at a championship, rather than have people lobby for them to be shot out of a cannon.

1:27 Completely disagree with it, and I think he should file a grievance - I think more players should fight these manipulations, because teams do it with impunity right now.

BTW, some really good articles on Lewis and Jeffers on the Athletic........mostly about how they are working with them on defense (interesting both were about that), and how even some in the Twins' had doubts about Lewis sticking at SS.

I saw a tweet about that, that after the defensive work Lewis has put in, his throws are more accurate and quick and hard, that he has a chance to stick at SS.

Okay, I’m gonna throw a little cold water out here, which is not my norm, but at one time weren’t Buxton and Sano the overall #1 and #6 prospects? I don’t want to get into a discussion about either or both of them, and their seasons this year, or the whys and wherefores of that season, just pointing out that prospect rankings don’t always correlate to MLB success. At least not yet.

 

But those are quite the leaps for those two and not at all where I’d have expected either of them. And despite my above comment, I’m still hopeful because ‘hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things ...’ :)

That probably has more to do with the perception that next year’s starting OFers are set in stone. It’s time for the kid gloves to come off with regards to Buxton. If he doesn’t produce, he shouldn’t play IMO.

If Kirilloff isn't logging significant MLB playing time, it probably means the team is competing and the outfielders are hitting well enough without him.

Is Kiriloff a full-time DH candidate, or is he too young so they'd want him getting that value (and improvement) in the field?

Certainly possible, but I think they will want him playing OF a bit...

 

That said, AK hasn't had any time in the high minors. With Austin at the ML level and Rooker/Weil in front of him, I'm not expecting to see him in MN next year.

I like that. It's getting a little off the thread topic, but that gives Kepler another year to maybe turn a corner (or transition to 1B, which I believe he played some in the minors).
