jmlease1 Verified Member Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 It’s Time for Michael Pineda to Change His Approach Lot of sense here; at a certain point you can't write off Pineda's issues on recovery from injury. He feels like the weak link in the rotation.

Solid team, solid farm, new management, and minimal long term contracts all add up to promising future.1:53Avatar Jay Jaffe: They have a nice core of young talent, and this regime’s move from the team’s decades-long addiction to pitch-to-contact types seems promising, for sure. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/jay-jaffe-fangraphs-chat-5-23-19/
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2019 Author Posted May 24, 2019 Justin1:05 A couple of years ago you correctly predicted the twins regression after a hot start to the season, any thoughts on the team this year?Keith Law1:06 Legit. I said this winter I thought they were a more likely contender than people thought. Granted, I don't think they hit 400 homers this year or whatever they're projected to hit, but I do think they are a 90+ win team. Kevin1:18 Buxton looks like a bust for former #1 prospect. Why everyone projects he will hit for average and power in the minors?Keith Law1:18 Buxton has a 111 wRC+ and 1.6 fWAR already this year. Did you type this question in February and only hit send today? Joe1:40 Martin Pérez? Real or fake?Keith Law1:41 I think the breakout is real. Using that cutter like a third of the time (HT to Aaron Gleeman for tweeting that stat) and it's a legit weapon for him - especially since his lack of a real average breaker was always a problem.

Meanwhile, I don't see anything on the farm that's going to move that needle anytime soon. I don't consider that corner having been turned yet. And that might be what Jaffe means by 'promising' rather than 'outstanding' or even 'good'.

After reading that prediction and some others (Renfroe 40 HR) that were seemingly crazy bold but are panning out.... we have to ask ourselves... is this guy a savant? What are his other predictions for future breakouts? I want this guy's crystal ball.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2019 Author Posted May 28, 2019 I have no idea why people say the Twins aren't talked about, or respected.... Melchez3:58 How about a shout out to the Twins? Best record in baseball and hardly anyone knows.Steve Adams3:59 I don't think it's true at all that no one knows. They're pretty highly talked about throughout the game and here at MLBTR as well. Jeff just wrote like 1500 words on how good the Polanco/Kepler extensions look, too:https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/05/the-hidden-gems-of-the-extensio... Big Show4:09 Twins played nothing but terrible teams so far, theyre just the new Mariners, nothing to see here.Steve Adams4:10 The Twins won their season series against the Astros. When the Mariners had their hot start last year their run differential was +13. The Twins are at +110 right now, which is the best in the Majors by 20 runs.4:11 Seven games against the Astros isn't all that telling, but it kind of flies in the face of the notion that they can't beat a good team.4:12 And their run differential is tough to ignore.Maybe they're not *this* good, but they're much better than last year's Mariners were, and they're going to add pieces to this club now that they have a 10-game lead in the ALC. https://www.jotcast.com/chat/chat-with-mlbtrs-steve-adams-5-28-19-5381.html

I think it's a fair and accurate summary and portrays the team in a very positive light in all aspects--our front office, our coaching staff, our players, and our philosophy. I'd recap further, but it's worth the listen. Don't skim this one.
