Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Lots of season left.

They could easily get on an unfortunate hot streak and blow this.

We are 6 games behind the 28th place team(s).  We are also except for the White Sox playing almost all contenders this month.  Do not expect this will happen.

Just watch, the Twins are going to screw up a perfectly good chance for a record streak either tonight or tomorrow. They have no sense of history. I predict a two out grand slam walk off tomorrow night, by Juan Centeno. Robbing our 2016 team of their spot in the pantheons of ineptitude.

What's our magic number?

What's our magic number?

Theoretically, we could be eliminated from Division race during this weekend and from the playoffs altogether by next weekend.

It appears several of the top draft prospects are college SPs.  Who among them like the could be the front of  rotation guy we need so badly?  That would be a decent consolation prize for this horrible season.  You would think an elite college pitcher could be up by the middle of 2018.

Not to put a damper on the celebration, but Atlanta has been extremely aggressive in moving veterans and restocking their system. Meanwhile the Twins appear to be losing games despite everyone from Anthony down knowing their jobs are on the line. Atlanta wants the #1 pick next June, the Twins aren't concerned with anything on the calendar later than tomorrow.

If it comes to getting the first pick, the Twins are going to be huge underdogs as Atlanta likely will unashamedly tank with a smile on their face while they're doing it, while the Twins will still do everything in their power to win as many as possible.

Gives future and current season ticket holders hope for next year. Like the month of May did for them last year.

This really depends on who the Braves might be targeting.  If they have one guy in mind and are afraid the Twins might take him with the first pick, then yes.  If they've got a few guys on their list and don't have a definite preference, maybe not.  Of course, the draft is a long way away, and everything could change, so it's probably best to secure the first pick anyway, if that's all you care about.

And, who says the Twins aren't tanking?  Albers, Dean, Schafer, etc.

Not only is it too far away for the Braves to make a determination like that with any confidence, like you say, but also the first overall pick is about more than just the player you select -- you also get the largest bonus pool.  That affects your entire draft strategy.

Your point about the bonus pool is absolutely correct.  I didn't think about that at the time I posted.  Thanks for pointing that out.  It will be interesting to see how the new FO plays it, assuming they have the #1 pick.  I've been hoping for JJ Schwartz, but an ace of the staff type pitcher would be great too.  Of course, the bonus pool gives them the flexibility to save some money at #!1. and pick up some hard to sign guys later.

This is hog wash. Complete and utter. The product on the field is bad, but in no way have the Braves ever made a personnel move based on pursuing the #1 pick. They called up their top prospect and traded away a useless vet (one of the worst players in all of baseball by WAR up to that point) to make room for him. A team truly tanking would have held down the top guy for service time BS and let the vet crap the season away. They're actively sending down arms that struggle, not running them out just to take losses. I know that you want to make a point here, but make it accurately, please.

That's true today. Who knows that may be true for the 2017 draft once the CBA is finalized this winter.
