I really doubt Sano would feel jerked around if he was put back at third base. He might even start hitting home runs again.

If I had a guy who I anticipated being the cornerstone of my offense for the next decade and a half I'd put him at the defensive position where he's most comfortable (over 90% of his career minor league starts) for the next 5 years, slide him to the other corner for the 5 years after that and let him DH after 10 years. Done deal. No learning a new position or getting hurt playing the OF. It's only a matter of time before somebody gets hurt with a 270 pound guy roaming the OF.

Our favorite team would like Sano to be one of the faces of the organization over time. Why would they have him embarrass himself over the next year or so by putting up 20-25 errors? This board is running out of dead horses to beat IMHO.

The only grain of truth to this post is that errors are almost never charged to outfielders. And as I type this a triple is credited to a batter that should have only gotten a double with a one base error charged to Buxton.

Move Mauer to right field, Park at first and Sano dh. If they can move Ryan Doumut to left field without experience they can move an athlete who is a veteran to rt.field. He is not a 22 year old he can handle it just fine. This is two games that this experiment had cost us already. Plus we font have to take Sano out late do def. Replacement. Net result that would be a much stronger team. Why keep trying to fit a square peg in a round hole?

If we moved him back to 3rd - we could continue to blame the front office for moving him to third. He would be the biggest third baseman in history, how can they expect a 270 lbs player to play that position?

Sequence of events:

1)Bid low on Park, don't expect to get him. But somehow get him.

2)Survey roster, notice that between Mauer/Plouffe/Park/Sano, there are now 4 players for three roster spots (1B/DH/3B)

3)Consider trading Plouffe briefly, but rule it out almost immediately (mainly because he is a good "Twinsy" guy)

4)Decide that Sano can play OF, even though he never has before, nor has anyone ever succeeded playing OF who is as big as Sano.

5)Plouffe gets injured, leaving 3 players for 3 spots.

6)Having dug in hard on "Sano can succeed in OF" stance, refuse to move him to 3B.

Does that summarize things accurately?

Or:

Realized Sano wasn't very good at third and not wanting to keep him in the DH role as a 22 year old, they told him they were going to move him to the outfield. They asked him to lose weight during the offseason and get down below what he reported to last spring training. But he instead in came in weighing more than last spring.

When Plouffe gets hurt, knowing Sano wasn't good before and now he's gotten bigger, limiting his range even more. They realize that moving him back to third might appease the fan base but would be even a bigger disaster than RF, they decide to leave him in RF.

But that doesn't fit with blaming the front office, so let go with your verison.

In the Strib this morning Molly opened the door a crack for Sano playing third. He said it would take a longer absence than the 15 day DL.

He'll be in the OF again very soon. Molitor said he's not done in the outfield. Plouffe is still the 3B.

Well this is a surprise. Hopefully he looks good at 3rd, so there is an extra spot in the OF to get Kepler and Arcia more consistent playing time until Plouffe comes back.

Imagine that. Nunez needs a day off before Santana is back from the DL, so they went to the guy next in line. This shouldn't surprise anyone. While I could care less about the OF/3B debate, I'd be pretty confused if they threw Rosario at 3B.

Honest to god, I never thought they'd do it. And Kepler in CF. Rosario has been raking over the past few games, too. And let's face it, Nunez has been a stud, but needs a day off. GO TWINS!

Nothing to lose right now on a 5-12 team. Sano's bat is coming around, and hopefully it comes alive even more playing a familiar position.

I wonder if this speaks at all to Plouffe's injury and/or recovery. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see Sano at 3B instead of RF, but I would've thought that if they if needed to give Nunez a day off they would've gone with Polanco.

Reason for concern on Plouffe?

Positional flexibility only matters if you're competent at it. This kid needs to be at third, no more of this nonsense.
