Fatbat Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago High price in assets to pay for Hoffman but he gets big outs. Getting him next season will be huge as the young kids will be promoted to Varsity and the playoff window opens for real. Anyone that is upset that the Pohlads are spending money should just HUSH UP! This is just a start to spending money n a playoff team. We should expect even more this offseason!!! TCanWins and TNtwins85 2

It also seems like the Twins are planning on using Kaelen Culpepper and Walker Jenkins soon, at least Jenkins. Culpepper for Gray and Jenkins for........... Roden I guess, barring injury, at some point. Fatbat 1

If they are on the 40 man this year, and there is a lockout, they cannot play/practice next year in the minors.
tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Unless I missed something, the Twins still have three catchers. Alex Jackson has done decent work in limited action. The guy looks like he still has talent. It would be surprising if he is still on the roster tomorrow and there is no doubt in my mind that this time another club will grab him. Was anyone else surprised that no team offered cash considerations for Matt Wallner? The guy deserves another shot to play but he looks like he will finish the year in AAA. Jack 1

FlyingFinn Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Just now, S Bart said: but explain any downside of bringing them up this year...some have made comments about it.. rookie status...upcoming lockout Biggest downside - they aren't ready. With Culpepper, it's coming back from injury after a lengthy layoff. Jenkins it's just some more reps and maybe adding some homers. Other minor downsides - No rookie of the year next year and no extra 1st round draft pick (more looking to 2027 rather than win this year). And, as you said, they can't play in AAA if there is a lockout in 2027.

TL Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago These trades feel like the right approach to give the team a fighting chance this year without sacrificing the future. With Buxton out it would have been tough to lose even one of Larnach and Jeffers given their importance to this lineup. I’m glad they’re rolling with these guys (though I do hope Jenkins comes up for Jackson and Larnach moves mostly to DH). And reality is that we still do not have to lose those two or Ryan for no value. I would bet Pohlad has given approval on a QO for Jeffers and if Larnach keeps performing he should have a trade market in the offseason. LastOnePicked and Patzky 2

A reliever who has sucked for 2 years and is still owed 15 million…and traded a borderline top 100 guy for him. I’m confused. Which one of these guys was borderline top 100? Their former #7 or their former #17? Also, who sucks. The controllable relief pitcher who slots in as a top RHRP in this bullpen? Seems to me like they got what they said they were gonna get. I think they need to prioritize having them as prepared as possible for 2027, that would mean getting accustomed to the MLB now. chpettit19, SF Twins Fan, mrmpls and 3 others 6
Maybe Next Year Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Just another trade for an average to mediocre pitcher and giving up way too much in prospects. As long as the current Twins management team, including Shelton, is in control put your head between your legs and kiss any future World Series goodbye. Let’s trade top 100 prospects for broken down washed up veterans when we could just as well bring up youngsters who will do no worse and yet get some big league experience. No way in hell we are going to the World Series this year but what the hell - let’s trade great prospects for has beens simply to perhaps make the playoffs! I can’t wait for those of you that disagree to share your opinions. SarasotaBill 1

Cris E Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago 30 minutes ago, Hawkeye Bean Counter said: The future wave will also most likely be credited to Falvey. Say what you will Falvey could find starting pitching. Variety of methods. He didn’t hit on hitters from 17 through 21 and that was his downfall. Kirillof was looking good in 2023 until his wrist completely failed him. That was too bad because we really could have used a decent 1B the past couple years. I'd certainly have traded Ty France's Gold Glove and 89 OPS+ for a better hitter who was an average glove over there.

Must have wanted a kings ransom as both teams pivoted with plenty of time before the deadline. Obviously they didn’t want to mess with this offense unless they had something substantial coming back which is why I think they were in on Neto. The Angels I’m sure wanted their own kings ransom.
