Wow, didn’t think this would happen for a while. Clearly they’ve been thinking about this for a long time and evidently made up their minds this summer.

Good riddance and hopefully we end up with an ownership that genuinely wants to build a perennial contender. Not asking for a miracle worker here, even average owners would be fine.

Twins fans have never asked for ownership to break the bank on payroll. Just keep the team competitive, daft well and provide an entertaining baseball product. No fan has ever said spend like the Dodgers, Yankees or Mets and Giants. Ocassionally contend for a championship maybe once a decade or within 20 years of previous title. Have good front office and scouts.

Any sale of team is gonna be for a lot of money, over a billion for sure. This could mean possibly payrolls like what the Marlins and Ray's have. This could actually backfire on Twins fans.

There is pretty much zero chance MLB would let somebody move the twins out of this market at this point.

No.  There is much interest in an MLB franchise in Nashville and Montreal, to name just two that are MLB ready.  That said, I would be very surprised by such a move; but I remember the North Stars!

Nah.  Why would MLB let this team with a newish stadium relocate when they can charge big time expansion fees?  When taxpayers footed a hefty part of the stadium bill MLB got exactly what they wanted in MN, no need to upend the profitable applecart here.

Their actions over the past 13 months make a lot more sense now.

Yup. Pretty obvious now that the 'Right-sizing payroll' comments weren't aimed at fans but aimed at potential buyers.

Also, probably the least qualified Pohlad was put in charge. Which maybe means he wasn't actually put in charge, but none of the others felt like running it any longer.

Third generation is the killer generation. At least that's the business myth, I've never looked to see if true...

Makes sense. The second generation gets to watch what the first generation built and probably takes some pride in that.

Sorry to work in generalizations and be a bit negative here, but it's probably hard for the third generation to avoid a sense of entitlement and ennui since it's all they ever knew.

And as I've said several times, Jim Pohlad was by far my favorite Pohlad. Low bar, I know.

thats just your PTSD talking.

With a relatively new stadium with an attractive lease in a mid major market there is zero chance MLB would sign off on moving the twins to either of those markets.  Or any market.

So... this would be generation generalizations?

Is there anyone, besides Glen Taylor, in Minnesota rich enough to buy the Twins?  How many billionaires are there in Minnesota?

Minnie Billionaires:

  • Glen Taylor: Owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves
  • Stanley Hubbard: Broadcasting mogul and owner of Hubbard Broadcasting
  • John and Martha MacMillan: Heirs to the Cargill fortune
  • Jeffrey Michael: Founder of Corvel Corporation
  • Dick Schulze: Founder of Best Buy

Plus Pohlad family, if aggregated

Richard Schulze of Best Buy

Bill Austin of Starkey

Stan Hubbard would definitely have a vested interest

Mark Davis of Davisco Dairy and Cambria Countertops

Barbara Carlson Family of Carlson Wagonlit Travel

Macmillan family - Cargill

all billionaires in Minnesota. Carlson’s would be low likelihood as they’re hellbent on spending their billions on ending sex trafficking. Same with Austin giving hearing aids to the poor… Rich do-gooders!

The Cargill family is the only other one that I think could do it.

With the way they handled their clandestine attempt to buy up a bunch of properties in Park Point in Duluth, and then their reaction to getting outed and the ensuing reaction to protests including threatening to sue the newspaper who ran the story, makes me want NOTHING to do with that family.

And that doesn't even account for all the human rights, workers compensation, intellectual property theft, environmental and price fixing violations that company gets into trouble for on a yearly basis.

Those guys are shadier than the Pohlads.

This is what I fear as well.

You don’t get to be a billionaire by being ethical

It's Shooter, so take it with a grain of salt, but he mentions:

- Glen Taylor

Marty Davis (CEO of Cambria)

- Jim Hays (President and CEO of Minneapolis-based insurance brokerage firm Hays Companies)

- Also says "it wouldn’t be surprising if retired Twins Hall of Famer Joe Mauer is sought as a limited partner in a Twins sale deal"
