    Yes, his surgery went well and he is a good athlete with a strong track record. Frankly I'd extend him as needed as I think he is the leader of the pitching staff

    I’d be good with him here. I don’t know if he will ever be great for a full season, but when he is on he is great. Couple him with Pablo and Taj and (I think) Abel and you do have something of a starting point in the rotation. I know there is work to do for the bullpen but I do think that can get figured out. I just want to know which position to players they are truly going with to plan for their next winning team, and what they will add to get to that.

    Just came back to this. I'm not certain if they will do a hard sell or a hard buy. I want them to pick a lane. But I think the most important thing for me, to build on for 2027 (assuming games start on time, which is a BIG assumption) is I hope the plan is to have a competitive team the rest of this year AND build it towards the best team for 2027 also. By that I mean, I trade Jeffers now IF what comes back can help quickly in 2027 or even the rest of this year. For example, if the Yankees offer Austin Wells and a good pitching prospect, then I think I do that deal. I don't know that I really do trade Ryan, but I will say a majority of rumors that come up if you google "Joe Ryan trade rumors" aren't nearly enough for me to agree to move him. The idea of he and Pablo and Taj at the front of the 2027 rotation is stronger than getting a team's 5th and 7th and 12th best prospect back for a system that is already supposedly deep. I would very much trade Larnach. I do think his value is the highest it has ever been/ever will be. I also do that to fully open a spot for Walker Jenkins. It's time to get his feet wet, and he is someone (along with Keaschall and Taj and Ryan and Pablo and Culpepper among others) that I hope Tom seriously considers giving extensions to. At that point, I would make virtually everyone else in the organization available in trade to help build a team for 2027. If some team loves Emmanuel Rodriguez, great. Tait? Great. Any/all of Wallner/Gonzalez/Mendez? I'd ship them off for just about anything. They should have an outfield set for next year that includes Keaschall and Buxton and Jenkins. After that, trade what you have to fill other spots that are needed. I don't have names for that as far as deals, but I also don't see a future with the Twins for a majority of those guys. At some point in 2027 (assuming a season is had) I do think that the team should consist of some grouping of Royce and Culpepper and Clemens and Lee and Keaschall and Buxton and Jenkins and eventually Lackey. Maybe Marek Houston is the SS? Maybe Culpepper is? Maybe they trade that grouping somehow for a SS they really like, I don't know. But use the assets you have to build a team that grows together, both for the rest of this season and 2027. That's my 2 cents.

    I agree with you on this too. I don’t know if they think Lewis is a core guy or not. I’m not even certain if he is more a 2b or 1b. I don’t know that I’d pursue Garcia Jr over a number of other options (I like Isaac Paredes more as an example) but I think he did that because of the Peralta/Weaver trade needing Lewis apparently. All a fun thought experiment

    I’d argue it doesn’t really deplete the depth. They still have Jenkins and Lackey and Keaschall and Lee and Culpepper and Buxton and countless others. Plus I have a hard time banking on Rodriguez truly ever staying healthy, and Tait’s 90th percentile is still a long ways away. I don’t know that I see Gunnar being traded either. But it is a fun thought experiment

    This scenario playing out would be fun. If they made the Peralta trade I would hope Tom would ok an extension. I don’t see Gunnar coming here without Jenkins going out. So that would be a non starter for me. What do you think of Isaac Paredes as a 1b target instead? The twins were listed as an option in the athletic trade rankings and his pull power at target field would be really beneficial in my opinion. Thanks!

    Agreed on this, but it does also depend on the other games before the deadline. I’d be open to selling Ryan and Jeffers if they truly go into a tailspin, but otherwise Larnach going and then adding some arms makes sense

    Detmers doesn't really do it for me, but I get what you are saying. I know he has team control and all, but I'm not as much in love with him. That said, if they like him, I support the coaching.

    This game FELT like a game they would not have won in 2025. Fun to see. Good defense, and Ober looked more than solid. Fun atmosphere on the road too. Keep it up!

    I wouldn’t platoon Lewis, especially with someone who isn’t part of the long term core. I’d give him a chance to fully grab the full time 1b role. If he doesn’t, that’s a conversation for another day. Also, butt issue is funnier. I agree :)

    I get this. I also HOPE that Buxton's hip will allow him to still play CF. Hypothetically if he can't play defense as well, who's bat do you want in the lineup more; he or Bell? I guess that was my line of thinking here. That's without looking at the number of other outfielders they have.

    Another thought; when Buxton comes back, it's very much a numbers game. Even if they trade Larnach (for example) the outfield then is Roden/Martin, Buxton and Keaschall right now. That's perfectly fine, right? But IF Jenkins comes up (which I do think happens at some point) then you do have to think about the idea of moving Bell to ensure that the outfield mix can all take turns dh'ing right? Not that they have to move Bell, but I could see the idea of it depending on the return. Anyway, lots of moving parts too, so trading some guys with the intention of making room for players that are ready also makes sense.

    If they do start losing and flip to selling instead of buying because of it, trading guys that are in their last year of their deal or have one remaining is perfectly normal. Arguably they have a ton of guys at AAA who are ready for their spots anyway, which is also perfectly normal. It doesn't mean they would have 11 trades like last year IF that is the case. But IF that is the route they do go, it's perfectly reasonable to expect some additions to their organization via trade. That absolute worst case scenario is both not buying or selling. That would be a disaster. Hopefully they pick a lane and go down that lane. My optimistic view is they continue to play well and do add instead of sell. But I'd be perfectly fine if they can move a few pieces who won't be with the team in 2027 while also buying some help for this year in positions of need.
