    I know mlb puts out grades, but having seen Jenkins for only a bit in CF, I absolutely trust him more out there than I did Lee at SS. Doesn't mean Jenkins won't be stronger in a corner, but I don't think this is a fair comparison. Rodriguez in CF should be solid too. I also really like his arm.

    I care much less about the bat at catcher than I do the defense. I wouldn't at all be mad if Jeffers actually accepted the QO, but otherwise I hope he gets a big deal that he wants somewhere else. Seems like a good dude.

    Bumping this thread because I just read a rumor online that was written where the Cubs would trade Matt Shaw, their #9 prospect Brooks Caple (a starting pitching prospect who primarily pitched at AA this past year with decent results) and their #25 prospect Chase Meyer who mostly has been a reliever even back to his college days for Joe Ryan. I wanted to ask, of those that have seen Matt Shaw play enough, is he someone who would bring strong defense to 2B? I certainly have opinions about him leaving a game and not telling the Cubs when he left to go to the Charlie Kirk memorial, but outside of that, he certainly had been a huge prospect and high draft pick in the class that the Twins got Walker Jenkins. But I've also read that he needs more help getting settled with the bat and changes his batting stance often, so maybe it's possible with a solid hitting plan he could become a solid hitter. IF his defense and speed are good enough, is he someone you would want to target for 2B? Tell me about Matt Shaw the player. Would he help the infield defense?

    I’d imagine Arizona would want more, but that could be a fun starting point. Sounds good to me. With everything that happened towards the end of the year, I do think Arizona would listen on Ketel Marte. Just throwing it out

    I don’t hate that idea. He is obviously at a low point value wise. Maybe Keith Beauargard thinks he could help with an adjustment to not strike out as often? He definitely has the arm strength for the position, and even with the strikeouts he's been an above 5 win player according to baseball reference for 3 years in a row. I mean, Marek Houston would have to go, and for as good as Marek Houston was this year, his strikeout rate at AA this year wasn't far off from Neto's career strikeout rate in the majors. I'd be curious what else the Twins would have to offer. Maybe that is Emmanuel Rodriguez. But IF they do make that deal (let's say it's centered around Houston and Rodriguez, but could be different) that would certainly open the door for Tom to spend money on someone like Randy Arozarena. I'm dreaming here. Just saying, if Tom wants to play to win, adding Neto and Arozarena to the lineup would be really fun,

    So who is a really good defensive SS, without just waiting for Marek Houston, that the Twins should acquire this offseason that could be ready to play 3b/ss/2b for them? I know people in the past on this site have mentioned Jordan Lawler. Maybe that’s the play here, and then that puts Clemens either at 1b or in a utility role, or traded I suppose. But truly upgrading the defense as a whole has to be the priority no?

    I just meant I don't know what anyone's defense will look like 4 years from now. I also see no way Brooks Lee is traded this offseason. Zero chance.

    His biggest problem has been facing left handed pitching as a switch hitter. His numbers against right handed pitching this year was WAY above average. If he can get to even slightly below average against lefties, either by ditching his switch hitting or improving a bit, then I don’t think that will be a conversation with the level of defense he played while at 3b

    I would imagine Brooks Lee is closer to getting extended than traded. I don't see him being moved. Clemens I'm not sure. Now MIGHT be the highest his trade value ever will be. But if they can upgrade at 2B, especially on defense, they should look into it. And yeah, if Houston comes up and shows he's worthy of being a full time regular, that's a good problem to figure out at that time.

    What other moves are made to have an opening for a primary DH? Is Keaschall moving back to the infield? Is Buxton not ready to play at all? Is Emma Rodriguez traded? He still obviously hits the ball as hard as anyone.

    The draft choice in a year with a strong college pitching crop is ok by me. And yeah, getting a bopper at 1B will help this lineup a ton. I wish I believed Royce Lewis could be that but as of now I don't.

    Not if there isn’t another prospect attached. And even then, money could be used to extend them no? Like, for example, Busch and a prospect arm or Parades and a prospect arm and an extension for Paredes works for me

    I’d very much be open to trading Joe Ryan in a deal for one of these guys. Maybe prospects get added on either side. But that would be the start of my framework

    I'm seeing talk about getting a 2B. I could be wrong, but that feels like too specific a target in my mind for a few reasons; Clemens at 2B, especially against righties, is pretty solid in my opinion. Plus his defense there was ok/fine. Do I think he is a PLUS PLUS defender there? No. Do I think he can be average there. Yeah probably. Marek Houston will start the year at AAA, and if there is a regular full season he'll probably debut in May or June right? That's certainly when Culpepper would have debuted in 2026 if not for his glute injury. At that point, if Culpepper is still the best SS, then Houston can take over 2b. If Houston is the best SS, then Culpepper can slide to 2b. Depth is good, and having Clemens at that point as a utility is a good thing right? All of this to say, I think the best opportunity to try and add the best middle of the order bat is at 1B. I think they should focus on really getting someone via trade to bring in and stick in the middle of the order. I'll take a true 1B over any of the players you listed with their WAR from 2024-2026 as well as Clemens. Shoot higher, that's what I'm saying.

    There is literally no con to Alan Roden. They certainly found space for Larnach, and Roden is a better defender than Larnach was. I don't know that he will play 162 games next year and get over 600 at bats, but he'll have a role somewhere. 1B and OF. Frankly, all of Buxton and Jenkins and Rodriguez have had injuries in their history, so assuming they are all healthy and able to play the field for 150+ games is also most likely naive. At worst he is our 4th outfielder and 1B. That probably means he'll get 450 at bats next year. And based on both his AAA numbers and his savant page, I'm actually pretty interested to see how that plays out.
