Agreed. If I'm the Twins I just accept the mutual option and then either keep him into the year or see what's out there on the trade market for him.

Is Alex Jackson still in the organization? Just curious. I am fine either way with Lewis being a utility option or traded. I don't see him in the starting lineup day 1. Other moves will be made, either at 2B or 1B, with Clemens probably starting the year in the other spot. And yeah, I am ok with trading Ryan for help (maybe at 1B or 2B, or a prospect they like) and I like Zebby and Abel more than I like Ober for the opening day rotation. Even if Zebby is eventually a bullpen arm, I'd take him in the rotation over Ober. If they can get SOMETHING they like for Ober, they should. I do think Jeffers is gone. I also am pretty sure that whatever catcher is the primary catcher to start 2027, they will be an upgrade at controlling the bases to what Jeffers and certainly Caratini showed in 2026.

I forgot about David Festa. Hopefully he can be a bullpen option at some point. Abel is already throwing bullpens. I absolutely (if healthy) have him above Ober.

So Ryan has a mutual option for 13 million next year. They also could decline that and go to arbitration where he would probably make closer to 9.5 million. And then, well, I'd argue if the offers aren't there, then they keep him and see if value can be recouped. This whole link/article was just IF they did trade Ryan, how could they do that and help the roster in other ways.

I know he had a bad August into September. He also averaged about 3 war per season for the last 3 years.

Ok, I’ll add another name to the pile just for conversation‘s sake; Coby Mayo. Baltimore has needed pitching forever and Mayo took a step forward this year. Is he a bat anyone would be interested in?

If Arizona is truly cutting budget, I'd love to see what it would take for Gabriel Moreno. They probably aren't trading him though.

I think the Twins announced they will be looking to trade a veteran pitcher this offseason because they see it as a way of filling either 1B or catcher, both of which look like pretty big holes to fill in the opening day lineup. I don't know what that return looks like, but if they can turn the last year of Ryan (who won't be extended) into a starting level player at one of those positions, I'd be ok starting off the year with that.

I've liked Santucci quite a bit since his days at Duke. I don't think we would need to send Caratini out in this regard either.

I add up Busch's 2025 and 2026, but you are right his slugging fell off in 2026 for some reason. Still way better on base overall than Clemens, but he has to get that slugging back up. Which is why I thought maybe he would be a worthwhile look.

Thats why they can also then sign a Freddy Peralta to a deal along with bullpen moves. The other deals could happen in conjunction with this right?

Cubs have been desperate for pitching forever. They have offense. Might be a right place/right time thing?

Actually, one that keeps playing in my mind; the Cubs need pitching, and the Twins could use a middle of the order bat. How about something around Joe Ryan for Michael Busch? He is born and raised from Minnesota and would look good in the middle of the lineup here. Would the cubs entertain that?

I actually like this idea. I think his underlying numbers looked good on savant, and I'd be willing to give it a shot. @Greggory Masterson Curious, if you have Roden at 1B (with probably a right handed platoon at points, and maybe that's Royce or someone else?) along with Clemens probably at 2b, Culpepper at SS, Lee at 3b, and then DH and OF so far taken up with Keaschall, Buxton, Jenkins and Rodriguez, my question for you outside of catcher is, what would you do to upgrade the lineup? Where would you want to spend money in free agency or adding via trade to upgrade the roster?

Depends on the return. Milwaukee and Tampa have shown trading pitching isn’t bad long term if you get a good return

You are only thinking of past production, not future results. Clemens won’t play over Jenkins, as an example

Hopefully as a utility and mostly against righties. That said, if he is paying, 2b is probably his best spot as of now right? If everyone is healthy I can’t see him in the outfield as much. And hopefully 1b is improved so he doesn’t HAVE to play there often

I agree with you in theory. But they can and should make other moves to help the team also. Year to year relievers generally are fickle though in terms of production. I agree with that.

I can’t imagine Bednar will take up even 10% of a teams budget. If they are signing him, they are making other moves. And you have to spend in free agency no? Or even if it is 10%, or even if he gets paid per year more than Buxton does, how would that cripple other moves they make? It’s certainly not money the Pohlads don’t have available.
