Tom Froemming Twins Daily Contributor Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Do you folks have more infrmation than what was posted by Seth? His report was that a vehicle Sano was in came in contact with a police officer. Everyone seems to assume he was the driver. Anyone know definitively? There may have been gun shots? Nothing concrete in that statement either, but it seems to be an accepted fact in some comments. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, could it be possible that Sano was riding with a friend and a policeman was hit? Is it possible the friend's car backfired when it stopped sounding like a gunshot? Maybe Mr. Sano offered to pay medical expenses to help out his friend and to be a good citizen? A lot of conclusions drawn from a vague report.I took a look around to see if there was any more information out there this morning, and it appears the USA Today article is still the most concrete reporting we have on the situation. Here's how they worded things: "Minnesota Twins third baseman Miguel Sano was detained by police in the Dominican Republic after a traffic incident early Sunday morning during which Sano ran over a police officer. Sano struck officer Argenis Emilio Gillandeux with his vehicle, leaving him with a broken leg. The officer was on duty outside the nightclub Riversay in San Pedro de Macoris, according to the police report. Sano was driving a vehicle without license plates and did not have his ID." Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 I'm not saying Sano needs to be a hermit at home and not have a life... But come on, man. After what he's been through over the last 12 months think about what you're doing. Being out at a club until 3 AM isn't smart. Blackjack, SF Twins Fan and Platoon 3
Doomtints Verified Member Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) I'd like to say "this is what happens when you get a six million dollar bonus as a teenager" but other players get huge bonuses to sign, stash the money, and go on to become good major league players. Whats does this say about Sano's character??! Signing young players is such a crap shoot. I dunno, man. There is footage of him doing batting practice in DR for prospective teams. He had a huge entourage, even then. That's a red flag. Which other Twins have giant entourages, or entourages at all? Edited October 8, 2018 by Doomtints
PDX Twin Verified Member Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 This situation sure makes me appreciate all the wonderful things I read (here) about the good "character" of young players such as Lewis, Kiriloff, and others. I agree with the comment much earlier that it is getting harder and harder to cheer for MS, and there is increasingly less that warrants a cheer on the field or off. mazeville Verified Member Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 This ESPN story has a very, VERY different version of events. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24931089/minnesota-twins-miguel-sano-face-charges-accident-police-say Apparently, this was a misunderstanding. He wasn't stopped. He was talking to the officer after he left the club then accidentally backed up over his foot, not realizing the officer was still there. He was detained for a few hours but is only being issued a ticket for not having a license plate. Kind of irritating how things came out initially, especially with the "fired his gun in the air" part. Richie the Rally Goat, pbrezeasap, Mike Frasier Law and 5 others 8

From there: ""The citizen, Miguel Sano, was sent today to the traffic court to comply with the due process in these types of cases," said Duran. "It is a formality when someone is injured in a vehicular accident. It is important to clarify that the policeman declared that the accident was not intentional, and that Sano hit his leg when Sano was reversing his vehicle to leave the place and that the baseball player was the first to provide help and never abandoned the scene. Neither the agent nor the national police plan to charge Sano with anything."" I hope that this is it with the media witch hunt. Edited October 8, 2018 by Thrylos KirbyDome89 1
