I guess Molitor wasn't lying when he said he didn't want to see any AAA prospects in August. He's started 10 games in the OF during his 10 years in the minors. Makes sense to call him a CF now /s.

EDIT: oops, scratch that. I was looking at Tommy Field, not Johnny Field. Who would have guessed there's 2 AAAA types with the last name Field.

I'm staying optimistic. No one was loving Forsythe, but he's had a good first week. If Field can play solid D and get some good swings, that's all we can ask.

If Field sees the, er, field, then I'll be very disappointed, as that means someone else got hurt. Cave has earned a grace period versus lefties.

Not sure that there were any other options. Kemmer (?) and Hazelbackensteiner (?) have to be cursing their timing.

Would've much preferred that Austin got the call.

Why would the FO want to look at someone that might be here next year.......

That said, Morrison could go, and Austin could come up.

If it had been Austin, we wouldn't have seen him play. That it's Field ... we'll see him in the lineup in Cleveland.

By the way, there was more to that quote than that that made it a bit better than 'I don't want to see anyone.'

Austin is out of options, right? I would've preferred him.

How does this matter? Either he'll be up at some point, or never up. Why not have him up now, in a lost year, to see if he can help next year?

Only 63 PA, but Field does have a 114 wRC+ against LHP, which is just a point under Robbie's 115 ... It wouldn't be difficult for him to be a defensive upgrade over Robbie.  He probably won't draw the walks, but he'll run better.

I know Cave hit the slam after a great PA yesterday, but he still K's at 50% clip against LHP

Field is only 26.

I know Austin is the sexy name after the deadline deals, but this isn't the worst look-see callup.  It's far from a Belisle/Wilson type of move.

I agree, it's not their worst move......the Austin thing is really about Morrison, not the OF. With Wade hurt, I'm not sure what the other options are, really.

I find it hard to believe this guy is on the roster next year, with Buxton, Rosario, Kepler, Cave, Wade, Grossman all around.....but I guess weirder things have happened.

Obviously it must've mattered. He's not here

He's not an OF.....I'd guess that matters.

but let's do a thought experiment.....if he is out of options, or is next spring.....how does keeping him down this fall mitigate any issues next year? Because there is no reason to send him back down this year, if called up.

Cleveland is throwing four RHP at the Twins, so he may be a bench body for that series as far as matchups go.  But, it's Molitor, so you're probably right.

Just looked and Johnny Field's 2018 AAA stats are .333/.412/.467 (.879) in 68 PAs/60 ABs, and .213/.253/.373 (.626) in 179 POs/ 160 ABs with Tampa in the Bigs. Maybe there's something there? Certainly would be excited if those were his AAA stats and he hadn't seen the Bigs.

Keep in mind Field is 26 years old, it is his 3rd year in AAA, and that's a very small sample. (And it's mostly BABIP -- his isolated power is actually just under the International League average.) And the Twins passed on claiming him on July 24 before claiming him a few days ago. He's also been eligible for selection for the last two Rule 5 drafts and has gone unclaimed.

Before he debuted in MLB this season, Field was projected for a 77 wRC+ by ZiPS. I guess this season has meant progress, because he now has a 80 wRC+ rest-of-season projection. :)

Extremely small sample, but defensive metrics liked his work in Tampa's outfield this season. Maybe he's like Grossman but with defense instead of walks? Still around replacement level.

Not a horrible move since we need an outfielder. Still hoping/waiting for the announcement that Belisle goes so Magill can come back from paternity leave, and that Morrison goes so Austin can come up.

DFA our cleanup hitter?!?!?!

Madness!

Luckily for Mr. Fields, he's replacing a player who's playing below replacement level.

Do you all know something about Morrison that I don't? He's been terrible all year and there hasn't been one peep from the FO to make me think they are going to move/demote him.

I don't mind seeing Field but with all the other options (Austin in particular) I'd prefer to get a look at many others instead.

Nope....we only know what we've seen......I remain hopeful this FO will pick a direction, but keeping Morrison around makes me less so every day.

Didn't this FO learn from their rule V mistake earlier in the year?  Sometimes I wonder what these guys are thinking.  They traded for Austin they should use him before he has to be on the 25 man.  Do they really think there is still trade value for LOMO?

Let's find out what our 40 man rostered relievers in AAA have.  Let's give some of these guys an extended look.  This is a chance to look at our own guys earlier than September so we don't have to look at a super small sample size.  It also gives them some time to grow.

I guess the FO hasn't completely given up on catching Cleveland that is the only explanation I can come up with.  I wonder if they are sticking with vets until September regardless.
