Author suggests Twins are either stupid, incompetent or Darvish doesn't want to sign with us.

There's no way it's the Twins being incompetent as the article states.  My opinion, the longer he strings the Twins along the higher he can drive his price for other teams, but has zero interest in signing with Minnesota.

Like i said earlier the Twins better move on to plan B and start talking to Lynn, Cobb, whoever else there interested in. Desperation is very very bad in these situations.

T-minus six weeks and counting...tick tock....tick tock

Hard to argue with Marc Normandin, that's for sure

Why not? Does he have some sort of telepathic mind reading ability?  Speculation is not fact

This is my feeling too. Sorry Twins, Darvish is just not that interested in you. Whether it's dating or pursuing a job, you'd make your schedule work if you were truly interested.

EXACTLY!  I can't imagine Levine and Falvey don't realize this.

This isn't Normandin's first rodeo. Heck, it's not ours either. I think we know the Darvish thing isn't serious. Maybe it will be serious later, maybe not. But right now the Twins and Darvish are not even on Square 1.

Does "talk to us last" ever work as a negotiating tactic? I need to go re-read my copy of The Art of the Deal.

This article has basically zero facts other than the two sides haven't met. It's all speculation at this point to try and get clicks. I don't even think there are any rumors out there that an offer has been made from any team.

Seems like if he wants to sign with MN he has every opportunity to visit. I also highly doubt the Twins are only focusing on Darvish at this point. I feel like it's even been reported that they have at least called on the other big three starting pitchers. The other three won't sign until Darvish anyways.

None of us can credibly talk about process one way or the other unless we're in the room with either Darvish and his reps or Twins brass. We can certainly talk about who they should sign/trade for/DFA and whatnot, and we can debate moves after the fact, but we can't pretend to know how they are or are not approaching a given transaction. Neither side is going to tell us, and I don't think we should take all that seriously the opinion of a writer whose argument hinges on what he "refuses to believe."

Well, this explains the lack of activity on my OKCupid account. And I thought it was a software glitch. Bummer for me, Vanimal.

It's still the holiday season, it's possible Darvish is traveling with his wife & kids. Same with Falvey and Levine.

None of the other top pitchers have signed anywhere yet either.

It would be really interesting to hear from a former front office person about what goes on in these face to face meetings. Here's our locker room. Here's Steve, he caters the game day meals. Here's our analytics department......

In modern times, and specifically with Levine and Darvish being familiar with each other, the face to face seems just like a formality.

He's just waiting for the weather to warm up here. We should be able to get him to visit by May...

about the 15th.... when he comes up with the rest of the Cardinals.

A good profile picture and bio makes all the difference! Perhaps Falvine needs to change their profile pic to them holding a puppy... That usually starts a dialogue!

Maybe you need to get a better fake photo...maybe one of Theo Epstein.

Good idea. I have to admit, I have a face made for TD.

I come here for baseball info and now I get expert advise in an area I need help in that is totally unrelated to baseball.

I love this site!

Familiar, but it's not like they're besties. And besides that, I imagine Darvish (like most) makes new friends easily, anytime an extra $10+M is dangled. I really hope there isn't some kind of overconfidence in the Twins FO based on this kind of assumption. It's a level playing field.

I've never really thought we'd sign Darvish. I still want to hope it could happen, though, but not holding my breath. I just wish it were done already, one way or another. All these types of rumors and speculation just remind me that things aren't done yet, it's a slow news time, and makes me antsy for it to be settled.

In speaking with a former Twins GM this summer, he mentioned off record about bringing in managers and free agents and that it is very rare that a player/manager is sold on the Twin Cities area in person in the modern age when everything can be seen via virtual tours.

Got me beat.   I was told I have a face only a mother could love be even she said lets just be friends.

I figured us for about a 3% chance of signing Darvish.   I read the article and now think the Twins have about a 3 % chance of signing Darvish.

I'm less hopeful than I was before the Rangers and Astros scored early auditions, but that was my thought as well.

Did Matt Belisle come for a visit last year? It sounded like Michael Cuddyer told him to come and they faxed him a contract.

So the news is: there is no news around Darvish. But because there is no news about the Twins meeting with Darvish, he is now bored with the Twins? There is also no news about the Cubs and Darvish - so is he bored with them too? There is no news about Darvish and anyone; is he giving up baseball entirely?

I'm almost always interested when the narrative for something changes, despite nothing changing in reality. It is almost like we (Twins fans, or Twins Daily, or MN sports fans or society as a whole, whatever the tribe is) kind of collectively decide we're bored with one narrative and switch to another to stay entertained. Or maybe we let our fears get the best of us? Or maybe we let our fears get the best of us to stay entertained?

this could truly be the tactic, and my worry is they really are in it to win until the bitter end and then get out bid while Arrietta/Cobb/Lynn sign elsewhere first.

Maybe we should believe that Falvey might have a little better idea then we do regarding Free Agent targets and the level of interest each has in joining the Twins! Im sure that he wants to improve the club just as much as all diehard Twins fans would like to see. Do you really think Falvey is that clueless? Come on people the fun is just getting started in the Twins turnaround.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with the modern era. Darvish has already played at Target Field. He knows what it is, and he has seen the Twin Cities as a travelling member of a team more than once.

We are assuming the only thing the Twins brass have to talk about is, "Look how great Minnesota is!" I'm betting this rarely if ever comes up with any team.
