Questions For Terry Ryan?

Why did Berrios not come up for the May spot start? Or, at al this year? Did you feel you did enough at the break to get the team into the post season, or was this a matter of waiting for next year?

Does he believe that you should build to make it to the playoffs and let it go from there? Or does he believe that a small market team can build directly for a World Series? Another thing I am interested in is do the Twins scouting department use radar guns to track exit velocity on hitters that they are scouting?

If you could go acquire one pitcher not currently within the organization would you attempt to acquire that would make the team better not only next year, but the following few years regardless of what resources it would take to acquire that pitcher?

If someone called you and asked for one of Buxton/Sano/Berrios in a straight up trade, who would you expect to get in return?

In regards to the draft, how much does MLB readiness play into the decision of the pick?

Do you consider 2015 to have been a success?  If so, why?  If not, why?

What are the goals you would like to achieve to consider 2016 a success?

You mentioned Berrios's size as a reason he was not called up in 2015. What evidence do you have that there is a relationship between pitcher size and effectiveness and/or durability?

Posted

What do Buxton and Berrios need to show during spring training for them to be on the MLB roster on opening day?

Do the questions have to be specific to offseason planning? I have other questions:

What were your favorite moments of 2015?

What other organizations do you admire?

Who is your favorite TwinsDaily blogger?

What are your goals for the next 1 year, and 3 years?
How much longer do you want to be a GM for?

When you retire, will you advise the Pohlads to stay in house for a replacement (which failed the first time) or will you advise them to go outside the org for help?

At what point will we make a "splashy" trade?

Are the in-house candidates (holdover pitchers and minor league prospects) sufficient to construct a strong bullpen for 2016, or will high-end talent from outside need to be brought in to supplement?

With little exception, each of the Twins milb affiliates ranked among the top 5-ish in their respective leagues in ERA, SO's and CG's. Also, recent drafts have the seen the Twins seemingly changing direction in regard to the type of pitcher drafted. I'd like to hear more about the changes and concentration of new philosophy, and how things are stacking up at this point.

Also, with the fairly decent success of 40 yo Torii Hunter this past season, any thought to persuade Mark DeRosa to join the team for a World Series push in 2016?

How many more years does he see himself doing this?  When he retired previously, he mentioned that he wanted to see someone come in with "fresh and new ideas".  Is this need less now, 9 years afterwards?

Beat me to the question, but I like the way you phrased it better than mine was sounding.

What happened to the offense in 2015? The club went from the top half in OBP, OPS, walks, runs in 2014 with a better second half to bottom or near bottom in most of those categories, except for runs scored.

Given the way Eduardo Escobar has stepped into the full-time shortstop position in each of the last two years, will what his status be in 2016: full-time regular, in competition for full-time regular, or bench player?

A number of young outfielders grew up in their play this year. How much of that growth do you attribute to Torii Hunter's influence? Do you think Hunter's influence would be seen mostly in the young players' offense, defense, or the way they handle themselves off the field as a professional?

Trevor May pitched well both as a starter and as a reliever. Which role would you rather see him in over the long-term?

Miguel Sano put up some very good numbers in his 80 games, but he struck out 35.5% of the time. How important is it to you that he reduces that frequency?

With Oswaldo Arcia presumably out of options, what kind of evaluation and analysis are involved with determining his role with the organization going forward. Is the evaluation and the expectations different in this instance than it is with a prospect type status player?

At what point will we make a "splashy" trade?

If he can't make a splashy trade at the major league level, how about finally considering trading one of our top prospects for someone else's top prospects?

For example, What would you think of looking for an up and coming full-package catcher through this route, such as trying to put together a trade with the central elements being say Stephen Gonsalves for either Wilson Contreras or Reese McGuire?

Moderator's note: folks, this is one of those threads where we'd like to keep to the topic. I've removed a few posts that weren't. Thanks.

Last year we saw Lester Oliveros transition to a starter during the season, and flounder. Meanwhile we saw Trevor May transition to the bullpen and succeed. What goes into determining who can make that switch from the bullpen to a starter and vice versa?

Why would you ask for questions?

As shown by the Dave St Peter thread, you will just publish information that is approved and certified by the Twins Front Office.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened.

You can read between the lines and draw whatever conclusion you please, I'll continue to laugh at and disregard your obviously biased opinion.

In other words, scorching hot take, bro.

U mad bro?

Just suck it up and take the well earned criticism on this one.

Mad? Heh, no. Tired? Hell yes.

Criticism is fine. It's welcomed, actually. But I have little patience for passive aggressive juvenile bull****. I'm worn down by its ever persistent aspect of the internet culture. It shouldn't be too much to ask adults to act like adults after we tried to be as transparent as possible about this difficult situation, one we talked about at length before making the decision.

I'd like to know where I was being passive aggressive? I think I stated my objections quite clearly as it was a very poor jouranlistic decision. You may disagree, which is fine, but to brush it off as passive aggressive is inflammatory.
