What about Ryan for Jackson Flora and a lottery ticket or two?  That would be a ballsy trade for both teams.

(This is assuming the Giants can work out an extension with Ryan for the trade to happen.)

I'm 100 percent in on that.

I'm not sure Busch is the answer. I just threw that out there. However, it is hard to understand what you are saying. Michael Busch will turn 29 in November. Surely his strength and hitting are just approaching his peak and it isn't remotely distant to believe he can be the player he has been or improve for each of the next 3-4 years. Busch does not rely on speed in his game. His defense and OBP are improving and nobody expects him to be a superstar. He is an improvement over those players who have filled first base last season.

Trading your best trade chip for a guy whose ceiling is 3 WAR, but whose 2026 performance was a large decline from 2025, and will definitely be declining when Jenkins, Culpepper, Lackey and others should be starting to reach their potential is a poor way to maximize a competitive window.

I'm not sure how you determined that Ryan is the best trade chip or how you managed to limit a player at a ceiling he has already surpassed. Again, I'm not exactly suggesting that Michael Busch is the answer and do not really have a solid trade that uses Joe Ryan, but there is no way that Busch has reached the point of decline. The one thing I do like about Busch is that he will draw a walk. The best deal involving Ryan would probably ask for two talented Rookie and A ball players. I just don't see it though. Likely Ryan is a Twin for 2027, at least until the July trade deadline.

Getting any real value back for Ryan at this point is a non-starter.  That barn door is closed with the horse having left the building.

Nope, the Twins will get zippo back from their four legitimate major leaguers on the roster at the end of 2025 - Ryan, Lopez, Buxton and Jeffers.  They will continue their delusional approach of hoping that mediocrity will somehow prove fruitful (with the fans or financially) while eschewing a golden opportunity to build a true multi year, affordable contender.  The ship has sailed on Jeffers and Ryan and is heading out to sea on Lopez and Buxton.

I wasn't in favor of most of the '25 selloff, but trading Ryan at that time would have made much more sense than now.

Certainly trading away Ryan instead of Varland......

But, as many posters have said here, it might be too late to trade him now.  The window was the 2025 season.

OMG, I would trade Ryan straight up for Flora!  Geez...no lottery ticket needed!  He could have been a #1 pick in some seasons, was still the #1 pitcher taken.  Damn.  I'd jump at that!

But I suspect Buster Posey is too smart for that.  Might have to include a lottery ticket from our end...or maybe toss in Tait, Wallner, Kreidler, and Sabato...just to clean house a bit!  LOL.  But, prying out FLora would be a huge get!

Ryan and Larnach?  We don't need Larnach anymore....so, yeah...I wouldn't miss him.  I"d miss Ryan but I highly doubt that the Twins will be able to resign him.

Giants may well be a logical possibility, particularly if the Twins are willing to take a flyer on an injured pitcher and/or a pitcher brought up prematurely out of roster desperation by the Giants.  They have ELEVEN pitchers on the 60 day IL and after the World Series concludes, those 11 will have to be added back onto the 40 man roster.  To do so, the Giants will have to DFA/release some of the arms on the active 40 man roster to make room for the pitchers coming off the 60 Day IL.   That's a whole lot of arms to deal with and taking 3 or so for Ryan would ease their roster crunch and give them a healthy arm.  The team also has 6 position players on the 60 day IL = 2 - C, 2 - IF, 2 - OF.

Won't that just give the Twins a lot of mediocre pitchers to roster?

San Fran or San Diego wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up at either spot when he has the opportunity to sign where he wants.

He should still have a pretty robust trade market considering he’s a back to back All Star. The games count from April to July as well and he’s pretty awesome in those months.

Just take a look at the Giants 40 man roster including all the players on the 60 day IL.  Of course, the Twins would have to be choosey with regard to the pitchers/players they received in return for Ryan.

I am under the assumption that his trade value has dropped significantly.

Almost to the point that we might be better off keeping him. Moment is kinda gone.

Ryan did not put up Freddie Peralta type numbers so we are not going to get Sproat and Williams for his final year.

It's fun to dream and all but... I fear that we will all be disappointed in what we get back.

As for the Giants. I'm not sure why they would rob Peter to pay Paul. They shouldn't be trading prospects.

Joe Ryan's worth $20-24MM in AAV. He'll make $12MM, and nobody believes the QO will exist next year at this time. He's got $8-12MM in surplus value. SWR had $16MM last year at this time.

Sorry, bruh, you're a year late...

How charming….

I'd say a shortened MLB season takes care of the second half drop off making Ryan more valuable next year than any other regardless of whether we keep or trade him.

What's with the obsession to trade Joe Ryan?  I see article after article for several years now with Joe Ryan trade offers.  Did he wear his emotions on his sleeves once and suggested a trade and we never heard from him again on the subject or did he appear in trade rumors at the deadline and we just decided he must be traded?   What's the story?

Usually 70-80 win teams trade their expensive veterans for prospects to rebuild with younger talent.

They're already doing that. Vets Ryan, Lopez, Buxton, Hoffman and unlikely but possibly Jeffers. And everyone else of note is arbitration eligible or younger.

To meet Tom Pohlad's blusterous speach of spending this off season, they'd have to bring in MORE veterans if they get rid of Ryan. And I'd rather have Ryan than just about any of them.

These are pitchers who were highly rated before the injury - McDonald, Tidwell and Whisenhunt were top 10 organization prospects in 2025 and Birdsong was top 10 in 2024. Similar ratings as Mick Abel and similar expectations after surgery.

All the talk about should he stay or should he go. Unless he is signed before the CBA expires he should be traded. They didn't trade Jeffers and now it's do they do a QO or let him walk for nothing. The only concern should be will Lopez be healthy and looking ready when the season starts. Looking at the SP's on the roster they are young except for Ober and Kremer so they may have to keep a vet in the rotation. That would mean Lopez if healthy or a Ober or Kremer. If Lopez is healthy and yes he will be in his last season of his contract, but he would probably be easier to sign then Ryan.

Trading Ryan to a West coast team like the Giants who have some pieces would work for both. But its a big no for Devers for two reasons, the money he's owed and his personality the other. He has shown to have outbursts that harm the clubhouse. That was the problem the organization saw with Donaldson. If you're going to spend money the player has to fit.

1) Giants would not take Larnach back, they have a similar backlog of OF'ers

2) While I'm slowly getting on board trading JR, 2 names I'd be interested in (whether they'd do it or not) as filler are Dakota Jordan ( a RIGHT handed hitting OF who may be a smaller version of Wallner) and Henry Lelane who was with Yankees. You'd need to add the top piece, but I think whether it be Flora or someone on the 40-man, this could be expected and i'm not sure I really like it.

3) At this point I'd hold Ryan and see where you are at the break and deadline, depending on when the season starts. I too want so see a potential playoff rotation of Lopez/Ryan/Bradley.

But do they have a backlog of platoon-only lefty bats who really shouldn't be asked to play defense?  😁

Add me to those who believe Ryan should have been traded last offseason.  And certainly, at last year's deadline.  With those two in the rear-view mirror, it is a must that he goes this offseason.  Why?  Look at Tampa, Cleveland and the Brew Crew.  A competitive small market team must, I will repeat must move on from their most expensive and valuable players before their value deteriorates as they near free agency.  Maybe these teams keep one of their best and most popular players for his career, think Mauer, Buxton, maybe Jenkins in the future.  The rest cannot stay.

As for who he can be traded to and what they can get, I'll let the guys with the knowledge and ability to do a deal make that decision.

By the way, look at Tampa, Cleveland and the Brew Crew today as they are the last three standing.

Do you really want to deny me a Lopez, Ryan, Bradley rotation in the first series of the year? That’s just mean.

Don't forget how good Abel looked early.

My guess is that the late season difficulties that were frustrating for all of us and negatively affected recent Twins hopes have cooled folks on Twins Daily more than front offices across MLB. Joe Ryan is a really good pitcher when he is healthy. One can easily imagine multiple GMs thinking of how they might acquire Ryan. Think Rasmussen (yes, they are different) who has had some tough injuries in his career.

I'm keeping Ryan unless a deal makes sense. The Twins should be discussing Ober and Kremer with other teams.

Would Drew Cavanaugh plus Yunior Marte be enough? Too much? I don’t think SF would want to part with two top 50 prospects,

I don’t see why SF would make this trade, but this is what I think of.

I can't see any way the Twins get two top prospects back at this point.

SF needs pitching. I can see them dealing for Ryan.
