Ridiculous....I can understand some of it...but to trade the 3 top relievers...there are now 9 empty lockers...in that clubhouse...talk about bad morale.. what pisses me off is Baldelli....he purposely put Duran out there a couple of nights ago and Jax out there last night in the 9th inning  in lopsided games for the other team scouts in the stands..to watch them..now we know why ....what a SLIMEBALL...I am thinking about going to the next game. .buying a seat next to the Twins dugout for the sole purpose of booing him beyond belief as well as call him a slimeball every time he steps on the field...

Varland not only had talent and was being used extensively, he is also from MN.  If the Twins had any sense of fan friendliness they would have kept him.  This entire day is too bizarre.  Too many questionable moves with too little coming back.  The present looks bad, the future doesn't look any better.  Let's see all the 7,8,9 inning RP are gone.  1B, SS, LF, CF gone but we still have Vasquez.

I'm trying to devils-advocate a reason why Varland needed to be traded, and I can't come up with anything.

He's closer to the kind of player you acquire in a fire sale, not sell.  He's pre-arb next year!

The Stewart trade was weird.  This one is just sad

This I don't get. Why trade a guy with as much control as Varland and who's trajectory is quick;y continuing upward for a teams #5 prospect and whoever the other guy is? Ridiculous. Say hello to 5th place for a number of years. There is rebuilding and then there is rebuilding smart. This is stupidity. 

Vazquez is still likely traded in the next week or two. Twins need to save more $$$$. Just nobody needs him for the PO's.

Perhaps this is the point where they transition their mediocre AA/AAA starting pitching prospects into becoming relievers and are able to piece together a bullpen next year out of young cheap arms? That's the most positive take I can pull out of what's left of this group.

Maybe they just don't believe in Varland long term? Because if they did, he'd still be a super valuable trade chip in 2/3 years time.

You don't have to figure out high leverage situations if you are never in them.

This organization can't do anything smartly.  Last year while in contention we buy nothing this year we sell everything - a joke of a franchise.   Most of the players traded made sense but then we went to far and the return was too little in many of the trades.   I hope with this purge the Ownership, Falvey and Rocco are going out along with the players because they sure as hell can't develop prospects or teach fundamentals.     We have starting pitching and no bullpen  on a team that likes to pull starters after 5 innings.  We will have to go with tandem starters to split games up.

Rojas looks like the real deal.  Roden, ranked as high as the Jays #2 prospect, had nothing more to prove at AAA, has the plate discipline the Twins need.  He's got a plus arm and isn't a defensive liability.

Rojas and Bradley likely slip right into the rotation for the rest of this season and they both have good upside.

This is why the Varland trade is so crazy. If you believe Pohlad said "trade everyone that can save me any money," then why trade Varland? He's still basically league minimum.

This is a weird trade. I expected them to build Varland up as the closer and trade him after he had that reputation.

It is sad/funny that absolutely no other team in baseball wants Christian Vazquez. I'm actually a little surprised they didn't trade Jeffers, maybe he gets an extension in the offseason.

I can tell you how that happened. Falvey had a long day. Right near the deadline he traded Vazquez to France. He was awake enough to know that was wrong so he sent the paperwork in to MLB to trade France and Va..... who was that 7 letter V name........... oh yeah, looking at the roster, V a r l a n d. Blue Jays were pleasantly surprised and didn't correct Falvey's error.

Unless they don't believe in Varland I really hate this trade.  First Louis is one of us man a true fan favorite. He has 5 years of control nobody trades that away without heisting the other team.  They didn't even get a top 100 guy here. This seems like malpractice on this one.

On to trying to be positive. They got what they believe is going to be a solid lefty starting arm in need of improving his changeup or he will end up a pen arm.  They also get Roden who just last year was ranked 7th in their system, but like most of the guys we have on our team hasn't been able to translate things to MLB.  The kicker is we have like 6 left handed outfielders either on the team or ready to come up.  They didn't need another one.

Maybe they feel really strongly about the lefty or feel they need a lefty starter, but I don't love this deal.  Yes they got good value, but they should have gotten something they needed instead of another outfielder with little current value.  They might have essentially swapped their fan favorite for a lefty version with one more year of control.  If he ends up even being any good.

I haven't seen these guys play yet.  We'll find out how great our Twins scouts are real soon.  IN a vacuum if the lefty works this is a fine deal if the bat works out as well a great deal.  if they both fail to make it a horrible deal

Edit:  I think I am just hurt by this trade.  Looking into more especially on Fangraphs the got a 50FV guy in Roden and 45 FV in Rojas with a chance to be more.  It's a pretty good get especially if they work out.  With so much movement of controlled players I am probably overreacting.  I guess I just don't see the plan just yet. I think they might need to make more moves in the offseason especially with all the left handed outfielder's they have.  It would seem Larnach and or Wallner could be pieces that get moves to make room for other guys.  Their play down the stretch is likely going to who stays and who goes.

I think this is an indicator that Ober might be the only one on the roster to begin next season.

So with Buxton on the IL, that’s 11 out of  26.  Take out the four remaining starters, that’s 11 out of 22.
