Outman is unfathomably bad, and has been for 2+ years. Who cares if he is out of options, he's not an MLB player. They had all off season to prepare Roden or Martin for spot starts in CF. Lee needs to be replaced by Culpepper soon.

His previous six seasons he hit .313, .301, .273, .277, .284, .258. He was also just 21 years old his first year; Lee will be 25 in February. I don't think most people are suggesting the Twins should give up on Lee, but it's not an encouraging start.

By what measurement genius? Not ERA. Not batting average. By your opinion. How did you free yourself from the straight jacket to type that nonsense.- 94 replies

Yeah, you are clearly the bright one. This isn't fantasy baseball fella. No one cares how many strikeouts a pitcher has if his ERA is 4.5+. Let's make it real simple for you, my man? What were the league ERA averages in the 80s and 90s? What is it today? If the average ERA is higher, and you already admitted the BA has dropped by 20, how is baseball better today if both the pitchers and hitters are worse?- 94 replies

I am always confused when people think MPH equals good pitcher or exit velocity equals good hitter. By that rationale, shouldn't Festa and Matthews have ERAs below three, instead of above five? Greg Maddox was pretty good; how hard did he throw? Shouldn't Wallner be hitting better than .200?- 94 replies

Just curious, did you see baseball before 2000? What about today's game do you think is better?- 94 replies

I would be very surprised if anyone who grew up watching baseball in the 70s, 80s, or 90s would agree that baseball isn't worse now, or that baseball players are better now.- 94 replies

I thought the same thing. Didn't the announcers even say that bunting was the initial portion of Lewis's batting practice yesterday? The team is just so bad at fundamental baseball. How many times are they going to have a player thrown out at home before they abandon the run on contact rule.

Completely agree regarding Varland. You can at least make a case for all the other trades, but there is no defending the Varland trade.

What part of the age are you not understanding, fella? It doesn't matter how they pitched their first few seasons, it matters how they pitched at the same age. Again, Maddox and Glavine were dominate at age 25, Festa and Matthews both have ERAs above 5.4 and can't pitch more than five innings because they get destroyed the third time through the order. How are Paul Skenes and Jacob Misiorowski doing at age 23? How are Hunter Brown, Mackenzie Gore, and Bryan Bello doing? This is baseball; it doesn't require a doctorate to throw a ball. If you aren't good by the time you're 25, you probably won't ever be.

"There are many people that wish football was back to three yards and a cloud of dust." I don't know a single person who wishes this, nor a single person who doesn't think football gets better every year. I think some people, myself included, miss the post game of the NBA past, but still appreciate today's game. Conversely, I can't think of a single aspect of today's MLB that I prefer over "grandpa's" game. "Grandpa's" game had pitchers who averaged 7 IP/game, batters who found it offensive to hit below .250, players who didn't go on the injury list EVERY year, teams that could manufacture runs rather than wait for a homer. I'll take "grandpa's" ball, you can have the "kiddie" version.

This is exactly right. Glavine, Smoltz, and Maddox were dominate when they were 25. None of the 25ish year old Twins pitchers looks like a long term starter. That's not the end of the world, Festa and Matthews could turn out to be dominate long relievers, but it would be nice to see one of their draft picks turn into an even average starter every decade or so.

I don't think anyone is saying waive the guy, but I would ask: when was the last time a Twins draft pick turned into an above average MLBer, much less started slowly and turned into even an average player. Look at the roster -- has anyone other than Buxton been drafted in the last 10+ years and turned into an above average player? You can preach patience, but there is not much precedence of it working out.

Both Festa and Mathews are 25. When Viola and Radke were 25 their ERAs were 4.09 and 4.3; Festa's and Mathews' are 6.39 and 5.21. More importantly, Viola and Radke averaged 6.9 and 6.65 innings over 30ish starts; Festa and Mathews are averaging 4.4 and 4.75. I hope they prove me wrong, but I doubt it. Did you watch last Friday's game? 23 year old Misiorowski is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA.
