    Without a viable in-house option at first base, these types of players need to be considered. The Twins track record of older 1B fill-ins over the last few years has been pretty good, I am not sure why there is so much negativity on Goldschmidt here. Solid offense, solid defense, fills a position of need. Of course we-as-fans want a 24-yr-old, slugging, Gold Glove 1B, but that is not going to happen anytime soon. That being said, I would rather they sign Arraez. Plays 2B and some 1B, (moving Clemens to 1B), solidifies the top of the lineup, allows the Twins to focus on other pressing needs.

    I think the elephant in the room with this kind of list is the caveat "players that fall into the Twins historical spending category". Though the FA list this tear looks a little thin, this list looks vastly different if you include guys that might command $15M+ annually.

    IKF, De Los Santos, and Mateo should not be in any conversations. They bring nothing that can't be found in-house other than "veteran leadership". Grichuk is a piece you add when you are rounding out a strong team, not adding a reliable core-type player. Why sign Foster Griffin when you already have Bailey Ober? Bednar would be a candidate, but you would be buying high and probably paying for it. Are you getting the 2024 version or the 2026 version. Gotta love the volatility of RP...

    Pretty much as everyone is saying. Lowe doesn't move the needle. At this point FA or trade moves should really raise the entire level of the team, not just raise the floor.

    Thank you for misquoting me AGAIN. I did not say he was the biggest reason, but arguably the biggest reason. That is a large distinction. When you attempt to dispute what I say, please quote me correctly. That being said, you say SWR is not in top 20 reasons why the team missed the playoffs by 7 games. Please list the 20 things that had had a bigger impact on them missing the playoffs than SWR and his 1-9 record over the first third of the season.

    It would be really helpful if you read the entirety of my comments instead of just cherry picking words to fit whatever narrative you feel like. At no point in my argument did I say that SWR was the SOLE REASON for missing the playoffs, just arguably the biggest reason. As was quoted earlier by @old nurse, if SWR pitched at a level to previous seasons, we were probably looking at 4 wins out of his 10 starts. That doesn't even include what the Twins would have potentially gained with a full season of previous production.

    Not a huge shock he is having success in Indy ball, he has enough chops to get drafted in the 6th round. So many little things tilt a prospect's chances to progress through MiLB, trust of a player's intentions should never be anywhere near the top of the list. He plays arguably the most pivotal position on the entire team (outside of pitcher), I can't see any MLB organization risking him back on the field.

    Not to be confused with most disappointing, I am not sure how anyone competes with SWR in this category. Arguably the biggest reason the Twins did not make the playoffs this year (don't go down that rabbit hole, another discussion for another thread).

    Cleveland's success this year was helped by the fact they had 4 SP start 30+ games and their 5th started 21. The Dodgers had 8 SP start 10+ games, with another at 9 starts. Milwaukee had 7 SP start 10+ games with another at 9 starts. Luck aside, I agree you need to have 8-9 guys that are at least SP4/5 in the system to be successful. The Twins SP outlook appears to have a high floor, but the ceiling might be lower than hoped. Regardless, I would not use the article as saying the Twins have a problem with SP depth.

    If you read my comment, you would know that i did not bring up Ryan and said they should.... wait for it... re-sign one of Lopez/Ober/Kremer. My comments were 100% for 2028, not 2027.

    I am still trying to figure out how having too much potential SP depth is a problem... There is no reason they won't re-sign at least one of the Lopez/Kremer/Ober group (enough of the dumping on Ober, he is a reliable 4/5). If not, then they will get moved next year. This rotation: Bradley Lopez/Ober/Kremer Prelipp Abel Matthews Rojas Looks like potentially two SP2 (Lopez, Bradley), two SP3 (Prelipp, Abel), followed by SP4/5s. Could Bradley or Prelipp make a jump? Sure. Could they use a true SP1? Couldn't every team use an SP1? I am not even touching on the other guys mentioned in the article... Looking at the totality of the Twins problems, starting pitching doesn't feel to be near the top of the list right now. Even two years down the line.

    The NFL's rules for HOF consideration: only on-the-field accomplishments are considered. It takes political views, poor reporter relationships, and politics out of the equation (supposedly). It isn't perfect, but it is cleaner. MLB's broadly used/abused character clause makes it a total mess.
