Hitting about .130 the past 200 PAs after nearly winning Rookie of the Year in 2023. Strikeouts look like a big problem, and he's another lefty OF. Seems to be very good defensively. Four years of control on Outman vs 2.33 on Stewart... gotta say I thought Stewart was worth more than that. I'd love to see them fix Outman but it's hard to have faith in this coaching staff with the majority of the younger bats flailing away in the majors. He has to improve big time just to earn that 4th OF spot... I guess you play him every day the rest of the year and see if you get can him fixed up to be the Bader replacement for 2026. Who’s fixing him? TopGunn#22 1

Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 I was on a baseball stadium road trip back in 2022. I sat down in Coors Field with my Blue Moon Beer and Elvis Shake. The Dodgers vs the Rockies was the matchup. I saw the lineup and wondered who this Outman guy was batting 9th for the Dodgers. And I watched this kid hit a home run in his very first major league AB. I was there and nobody can take that away from me. Because I was there for that moment... I took an interest in him and have been watching him. I'm a fan... despite his recent struggles. He landed an every day job in 2023. 23 Dingers and 16 stolen bases in 587 PA's. An older rookie at age 25 but it's the Dodgers... which can be a tough nut to crack. 2024 didn't go so well and he's been not getting playing time since. I like the dice roll on this. Power, Speed, Defense. He will cost the minimum. He just has to find that light switch again and start hitting the ball and maybe that comes with opportunity that the Twins will hopefully provide. big dog, DocBauer, TopGunn#22 and 2 others 5
clone52 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Seems like Outman basically replaces Bader, so its almost like Stewart for 2 prospects. Too many lefties, so I wonder if Larnach or Wallner go today (or this offseason) TopGunn#22 1
Doc Lenz Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 1)These deals tanking the team. Hence with small chances to win Falvey covering for Rocco so he can keep his job because no Manager can win with this team. 2) absolutely no reason to go to games. They should lower ticket prices by 80% and refund 40% to season ticket holders. 3) if Buxton and Ryan don’t get traded in the next 90 minutes what do you think they are thinking? Falvey reminds me of Neville Chamberlain. 4)Lifetime fan… 87 series and 91 ALCS attended I give up. sftwinsfan 1

jorgenswest Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Outman will be too old by the time they are competitive again and block players who need to be playing before then. Hopefully they can trade him today and get a lottery ticket that has a chance to help in 2030. Cash would have been a better return. They need to lose with the young players. LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 James Outman! I live in LA and follow the Dodgers so I can tell you what happened to him. In 2023, finished third in the Rookie of the Year balloting, had a 3.4 WAR, and was the Dodgers centerfielder for the next 5-7 years. In 2024, he got off to a terrible start, got hurt, and was replaced by Andy Pages, will promptly hit and took his job. Pages now starts and has a .795 OPS. Since then, Outman's played very infrequently and has not hit at all. I mean, not at all. This guy is a complete crapshoot. If given playing time, maybe he could return to the 2023 guy who had a .795 OPS in 550 plate appearances. He does have a .970 OPS in AAA this year in what's called a "hitter friendly" league. More likely though, this is Keirsey all over again. Not much of a return. Danchat, Dman and TopGunn#22 3

LewFordLives Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Why Outman? He's out of options next season. This could very realistically be Stewart for nothing. Why??? Granted he's not going to fetch a top tier prospect, but he's been very effective when healthy. This makes no sense. DJL44, TopGunn#22 and sftwinsfan 3

I don't disagree with the essential fact, but -- They've rostered Dashawn Keirsey for the entire season. A 28-year-old lefty hitter who can play all 3 outfield positions, and who's always hit .100 in the majors. Outman is a 28-year-old lefty hitter who can play all 3 outfield positions, who currently is hitting .100 in the majors, but who has recent history of actually hitting and being a useful contributor. It's a bad outcome for trading a good, cheap reliever. Absolutely. As a minimal upgrade to a weak spot on the actually existing roster, though, with a sliver of upside, it's not a complete cipher. I think there's still a good chance they're trying to be "good" next year. Otherwise, why get Roden and Outman? Those are win now returns. I think there's a solid chance they think they can rebuild their pen on the fly and be back "competing" next year. I think they're trying to play both sides of the fence. And it's why they're going to continue to struggle. (Good and competing get quotes because I've realized my definition and their definition are simply different. They think a solid floor, mid-80s win, compete for a central title and take your chances team is the definition. I don't) Mike Sixel 1

They have zero dependable guys right now. Zero. I have no idea why they think Outman can be fixed after two years, but hey, I could be wrong. Roden? I can see that one working, but are these better than Larnach/Wallner/Bader were this year, most likely? I don't know.....they have no SS, 2B, C, 1B outside Lee (who I like more on the left side, but have doubts about) and Jeffers........I could see dealing some of the RPs, but not Duran, Jax, Varland, AND Stewart.
