That's fair. Just pointing out that it doesn't mean every individual position group has to be upgraded or payroll increase. I mean if they signed Seiya Suzuki, Skubal and traded for Hunter Goodman, I would be fine with the in house IF options.

Call him up to DH against lefties. Royce is good at 1B. If Royce could play elsewhere against lefties, let Sabato play but I don't know if there is anyone else you would put at DH against lefties.

I'm sure he has a lot of bad metrics, but baseball-reference.com shows him as not a bad 3B. Awfull SS, but not that bad at 3B. Statcast also has him as an average fielding 3B.

I don't believe their is a recent comp to Lackey debuting in 2027. Even the Kyle Teel path puts him at a 2028 debut. Mike Zunino drafted in 2012 and debuted in 2013. Was a decent defensive catcher but his hitting was pretty bad is first three years. Also called up on a really bad Mariners team in 2013. Unlikely he would have gotten called up on a decent team.

What is Roden's career OPS. Look it up.

I like that point. Ryan is fiery. Maybe don't want that rubbing off as much. Lopez is calm and honestly fantastic when he was in the TV booth a couple weeks ago. That kind of presence could be a huge deal with all the young arms. Ryan can probably bring a lot too, but it is a different personality.

Fine with Rodriguez, but not Wallner. Sheesh. "probably as good as Roden"? Seriously. I'm 44, overweight but was a bench player on a small HS baseball team. I could probably match his OPS+ I also think Jenkins could match Martin, even early on. I say bring Jenkins up, play him almost every day. There is room for him, Buxton, Keaschall, Larnach and even Rodriguez with 3 OF spots and DH.

Well, I was going to respond in one way, but I see that Ryan and Lopez are the same age. I do think Lopez will come cheaper. If money were no object, I'd go Ryan all the way, but based on what I think contract would look like, Lopez might be the way to go. I think Lopez will have to balance whether he wants to extend now, or bet on himself that he bounces back from the injury. If both have good years next year, Lopez is probably a little cheaper.

I also like Clemens as that swing guy that could play almost every day, but at 1B, 2B, corner OF, maybe 3B.

I am going to assume they aren't going to go get Skubal. Not sure there is another Ace type available. If several veterans that maybe would sign for 2-3 years at $20M AAV. Probably some younger guys who could be had around that for a longer contract. Could go the trade route, but that's where its going to hurt if you really like prospects. If you could build a package around Tait, Rodriguez, maybe one of the guys who have made their MLB debut, or Rojas, Quick or Soto? More ancillary pieces to fill in around the building blocks. Don't disagree with much in here, but its a BIG leap to say they could have gotten Gausman instead of Kremer for a much cheaper price. Yes, some rankings are very high on Reyes, others are not as high. Maybe the Twins asked for Gausman and the Blue Jays asked for Reyes and Quentin Young? Can't just take 1 set of rankings and assume that is how everyone has them.

Not yet, depends on if they back it up this offseason. He also said "We did that in a small way at the Trade Deadline. You’ll see more of it next year.” So he's not saying the trade deadline was the final plan it was masterful. He said the trade deadline was a small way of doing what they want to do and that piece was masterful. If the entire plan was to really contend next year and the other pieces will drop in the offseason, them maybe it was masterful. Did they lose anyone they care about for a 2027-2028 plan? Answer is probably no Did they take on a ton of salary that hurts their offseason plan for 2027-2028? Answer is probably no Did they find some pieces that can be at least a small part of the 2027-2028 plan? Answer is probably yes.

If you goal is a championship in 2027 or 2028, those moves weren't that bad. I can see your point on Kremer, but not because of the future of Rojas. Maybe you could have used Rojas to get someone else instead of Kremer. What do they need to do this offseason to really contend in 2027? I'd say a starting Cather, a Top 3 pitcher and an offensive upgrade at 1B, 2B or 3B (assuming Culpepper or Houston snatches the starting SS role. Lewis, Clemens and Lee are okay at the other 3 spots but an upgrade at any one of them could work. You could fairly easily do this and have a payroll around $140 million next year.

So many ways to think about the trade deadline as a whole. All depends on your priorities and outlook. Wanting to contend for a championship this year? F. Not enough to get it done Wanting to contend for playoffs this year and championship next year with no major offseason moves? C- or D+ Got a hole at C for next year and you really are relying on health and player development to be a championship contender this year. Wanting to contend for playoffs this year and championship next year with appropriate offseason moves (Starting C, Top 1-3 SP and another above league average bat somewhere): A or A-. None of the prospects the twins lost will start impacting the team until 2028 at the earliest, probably 2029. Can probably sign AJ Minter next year if you want to contend (and he likes Minnesota). The only reason I say A- is that I think there was likely a move to be made with Tait and/or Emmanual Rodriguez. If you are demoralized, know the Pohlads will never spend enough to contend, know MLB won't fix things with a cap/floor and your only Twins happines is hoping for the stars to align on enough prospects at the right time: F

Didn't read all the replies, but here are my thoughts. I kinda waver between being competitive this year and also realizing a championship (league or world series is very, very unlikely). Whatever gets done, I don't want to hurt chances in 2027. I feel the trade deadline did this. Helped this year, but didn't hurt 2027. Obviously didn't do enough to completely contend in 2027, but it took steps that would need to be backed up this offseason. 1) Absolutely send Gray down. If Culpepper is ready, great. If not sure, call up Ben Ross. Heck, even let Marek Houston make the jump from AA. Roster need is someone that start at SS. 2) If you could guarantee me the Twins could keep Alex Jackson, do it. If the Twins FO was sold on picking up a starting C in the offseason (free agent or trade), do it. If the Front office wants to go with Caratini as the starting C next year, then they don't have much of an in house backup option. But could get a backup C in ;the offseason, though. Honestly, this probably has more to do with what you backfill it with? Wallner? When would he play? DH against righties (with Larnach in the OF). Bell has been pretty good against righties, though, so I don't think Wallner is a huge upgrade. I was told Bell at 1B was a non-starter, so swapping Wallner for Bell, does that really move the needle much? If you could call someone up who hits lefties well, thats definitely a need. Honestly, if you risk losing Jackson, I probably replace him with Gabriel Gonzalez. He's done a lot better against lefties than righties this year. If you have 40 man space, Sabato would be a good choice. After typing it up, I would send Jackson down and bring up Gonzalez or Sabato and plug them into the lineup against Lefties. That could move the needle. 3) Duh, of course, can't imagine anyone disagrees with this.

If you are looking for offense, Bell beats out Royce against eighties. Giving up defense though.

With the Mariners releasing Mitch Garver, might not be a bad time to try and send Jackson down to AAA and see if syou can slip him past everyone

Could have sold and saved a lot of money instead. Would you prefer that. No one is giving the Pohlad's medals, but you absolutely can't argue the strict math. Spent more money on a trade deadline than they have in a decade. Next step is to see them build it up in the offseason for 2027. Go get another SP for the rotation and a solid replacement at C at a bare minimum.
