Rodon Gone

2 years, $44M with the Giants.  I am not sure he would have taken anything similar with the Twins, not a powerhouse contender.

Good deal for the GMen.  At least he is gone from our half of the league....

I believe he was the Twins only chance to put together a contending rotation. The Twins did ask for medicals so that’s further than they usually get.

Yeah gotta believe the Twins are set for the mid rotation market now.  Pineda maybe Kikuchi or a trade for Odo.  Gonna have to grow their front line starter it looks like.

I guess I don’t understand why the twins are more willing to trade major/minor league talent for pitching instead of just spending money and losing no talent?
This was the best free agent pitcher year I remember and they didn’t even try.

While I am happy baseball is back I’m not spending money to watch the twins if the pitching roster doesn’t improve dramatically in the next 3 weeks.

Well, bummer. 22m per is a lot though.

For a guy whose ceiling is number 1 starter, 2 years at 22 million per is not. The Pohlad's have gotten in your head exactly the way they intended to if you think that way.

Not until the World Series. ?‍♂️

The thing that strikes me through this entire offseason, both before and after the disruption, is how "reasonable" the rates have been for free agent pitching.  The fact that we haven't been in on any of it is discouraging to me in that light.

I think it's safe to say that in two years Falvine is either going to look like a genius, or is going to be fired.

The Twins play the NL West this year, including August 26-28 vs San Francisco. Although Rodon may be on the IL by then anyway. :)

Paying Rodon $22M/year is more that I'd like, but it's only a 2 year deal so the risk would not have been that high. It's frustrating that the team payroll is $40-50M below what would be a reasonable expectation and the front office seems unwilling to spend on starting pitching. It's a moot point now since there is literally nobody to spend money on in terms of front line pitching.

Rodon may win the Cy Young or it is possible that he may  battle injuries again this season or that he regresses from the one good season that he has ever had.

Maybe the Twins could have had him by offering a third year or maybe he had zero desire to play for them.

Enjoy the season.

An optimist has to think Falvey knows something we don't know about our young pitchers. We've got an above average, to possibly way above average offense coming this year. Shameful if we don't put together a good staff for this offense. I cannot emotionally get out over my ski's excited about 3 or 4 of these kids really making it big this year. I'd like to. Falvey surely knows something about the coming talent I don't. He is risking his job. I am only risking my emotional capacity, and I usually am way too optimistic in the spring every year as it is.
