I would rather roll with May in the 5th spot but otherwise I like all of these moves.  This is the only way I see Hicks resurrecting his career.  Both May and Meyer will get their chances, probably soon.

As of right now the Span and Revere trades looks very sad.

The Revere trade looked sad once Worley had completely bombed.  May was and is an alright prospect with some potential to turn that trade around.  The Span trade doesn't look sad at all.  Meyer has a big time arm and he will be up this year.  I'm just concerned about an injury.

Here's hoping that the Schaefer/Robinson platoon is better than we expect, that Hunter and Arcia aren't as bad out there as we dread, that Buxton is MLB-ready sooner than we think he might be, that Rosario makes more progress, that Hunter announces that this will be his final year, and that we can get a decent low-level prospect for Hicks.

In 2000, Torii was sent to AAA after about 500 middling MLB AB's, and tore it up.  When he came back up after that, he became a multiple All-Star.  Keeping my fingers crossed for Hicks.  Guys with his size, speed & strength combo, plus the capability of hitting from either side, get a couple extra chances.

How much better is Revere than Robinson and Schaefer? Would it really shock anyone if those three put up similar numbers?

Would the Phillies trade Revere straight up for May right now? Would the Twins give up Meyer for Span right now?

I'm sorry, it was the Revere draft that bothered me more than the trade.  The fact they got anything of perceived value for him is a plus to me.  I'm not sure why people are complaining about the Span trade.  You do that trade every time, and when your team is rebuilding (and that's what the trade signified, you do that trade every time.  How many more wins does Span bring us?

Name of this post does not reveal all the secrets inside... Maybe renaming it "Twins choose 5th starter and cf" would reveal more.

I'm disappointed by the May move more than any other this offseason, Not that it is the wrong move, I just wanted him here full time after last year. He wasn't stellar but he was progressing at the MLB level and I think he belongs here now, Similar to how Gibson came up and developed the rest of the way up here... All that to say I think it is the wrong move for May and his progress.

I just hope its a temporary move until Pelfrey or Milone is moved. Hopefully BOTH of those two can show enough early that someone else will want them.

I'm with all those disappointed the May was sent down.  When taking on a LONG term rebuilding project, I want to hear about the future, not the patches.

I'm pretty disappointed that May was sent down.

Yesterday's awful performance sealed his fate. He'll live to pitch another day.... it won't be long before someone in the rotation has something go wrong.

I'm disappointed with Pelfrey to the pen.  A healthy Pelfrey will have a good year somewhere.  Milone gets 5 or 6 starts and the complaining begins.  He'll be gone by June 1st.

Not surprised by Hicks demotion though, but Gardy would have kept him.

If we're looking long term, why are we so concerned about May getting some extra work in before his absolutely inevitable call up in a month or two?

I'm not sure anyone has complained here, the key phrase used was, "As of right now", the trades look very sad.  And that is simply a fact...

1) Still no CF... nothing from Hicks in 3 failed attempts and two new journeyman now manning the black hole that is the position for the Twins,

2) Still no SP mainstay studs... the clock is ticking, perhaps "5 months from now" the trades will make us all happy (and more than happy to move on from the wretched aftermath of the trades).

Could you imagine Gomez, Span and Revere manning the OF??  They'd make most of our pitchers look like all stars.  The Twins got Hardy for Gomez, what did the Twins get for Hardy??  So far they have some pitching prospects for Span and Revere but no one who has actually performed at the MLB level, hopefully that changes soon??

pelf is in the pen, I gotta think the idea is trade Milone during the season. I'm with you though, I wanted May to start the season as the 5th starter. I too hope Hicks can figure it out in triple A.

Brutal. This team will have to score 5-7 runs a game to win. I hope Joe Mauer starts hitting when the bell rings. Hey...... how about that farm system. One of the Best in Baseball.

This post, much like me, is much bette than it originally looks. (Or, at least that's what my wife tells me).

Hicks optioned to CF along with Rosario. Schafer and Robinson will hold down CF for now. May was also sent down to AAA and Milone is the 5th starter. Pelfrey to the bullpen.

I was hoping Hicks would get some at-bats in AAA without as much pressure. So, hopefully it works out for him.

I wanted Hicks in AAA too, but I am a little disappointed in that they seem to have gone with the oldest, most veteran arrangement possible. Boyer in the pen would complete that.

I can see why all the national pundits have us in last place and losing 90 again.  The outfield is a mess and I am not sure how many teams would have one that ranks lower than ours.  And the pitching staff is not improved when we go north with Millone, Pelfrey, and Stauffer.  Spring training always starts with hope.  Now I wait for the point where the penalty for adding a young player early is gone and hope for some real change.

Or 3 months, like Gibson 2013. Or 4+ months, like May 2014. Or 12 months and counting, like Meyer...

I am pretty surprised by the Hicks thing.

The writing was on the wall last week on this.  As a matter of fact, don't be surprised when Herrmann is announced as the back up Catcher soon ;)

The Milone thing smells "scholarship" to me, and I wonder if it is Ryan and not Molitor's doing here, because when Molitor saying that "Milone pitched well this Spring" sounds either blind or lying, so I suspect that he had to say that...

I would think there'd be a strong argument that we actually brought Gibson and May up too soon, not too late.

A big high five to anyone if they can tell me if this is the oldest opening day 25-man roster in baseball history for a club coming off of four 90 loss seasons. Or even three 90 loss seasons. Or three 85 loss seasons.

If you are in competition for a starting job and you hit .206 you have a very low chance of making any team.
