TopGunn#22 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 I think I'm in the camp with tony&rodney and Stringer Bell on this. I like Arraez, but if I can make a deal for a #2 type SP to lead my staff I do it. To get a Woodruff (who supposedly is not available) or a Pablo Lopez BTV would require an Ober and Arraez 19.5 + 19.7 = 39.2 deal (Lopez 38.7 and Woodruff 37.8). I'd do it to get a proven SP. As the rest of the SP market spirals out of control, as it always does, I'd look at the Japanese pitcher Senga. I like what I've read and he may be vastly more affordable than Rodon. Blyleven2011 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Man all this talk of if the right deal comes along , trade arraez ... The most exciting player next to Buxton ( when healthy ) , arraez could or would play every position if you asked him too ... You trade this 300 hitter and you will regret it , we need consistent at bat's and he has proven his consistency and played well at 1st base ... Yes I wish he played a little better defense or had better knees , but I'll take what he gives us and that's ( heart ) ... They trade arraez ( our spark plug major leaguer ) and im done with this team and FO ... The excitement will be gone ... TwinsRealist, howeda7, In My La Z boy and 1 other 4
howeda7 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 The offense already stinks. Correa is not coming back. You're going to trade Arreaz. So you subtract the two best hitters from a bad offense. What good is an "ace" at that point? If you want another starter take some of the $60 million in payroll room you have and sign the best one you can. Also, generally the front office shouldn't be influenced by the fans/PR. But this franchise is as irrelevant and unpopular as it's been since the late 90's. Trading the most popular player who just won a batting title for some pitcher that 75% of fans won't know anything about is the last thing the ticket sales department or TV folks want to hear. Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 As much as I would hate this, it would be logical to move Arraez when his value is the highest. The one thing the front office did right last year was move some players while their stock was high (Garver and Rogers). The problem is, I just don't trust our FO to identify the right pitcher to move Arraez for. We don't need another injury prone or #3-like starter. And this team is going to be a lot less fun to watch, they were already a mostly dull team to watch in 2022, and would be bottom tier without Correa and Arraez (obviously they'll spend money elsewhere, but my point stands). wsnydes, Vanimal46 and FlyingFinn 3
TwinsRealist Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Trade Buxton instead, he'll never play anywhere near a full season. Dave The Dastardly 1

No doubt that Arraez is one of, if not the most entertaining player on roster. His personality stands out amongst the crowd. You’re right though - it’s trading Arraez at his highest value. In order to retain Arraez, the FO needs to be confident he’s a consistent .315-.330 better. The margin for error is razor thin with him without any power. If he ends up being a .290 hitter, then it’s like we’re clamoring for Jason Tyner to remain a DH on this team. wsnydes and Cris E 2

darin617 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 What is his greater value right now the bat or his low contract? I really don't see a high return if he would be traded. When you think his best position would realistically be DH. I don't feel team want to spend high on a DH when its best used to give players a rest but still keep their bat in the lineup.

If I'm a Brewers fan I wouldn't be thrilled about giving up an elite arm for Arraez. I really enjoy watching the guy play, but his limited defensive ability + health issues are well documented. Some people look at only stats and awards. When you look at stats and awards & Arraez you go WOW, His BA, OBP, OPS, his defensive stats (tho deceiving). Then you look at his awards - All-Star, batting title, Silver Slugger, GG nomination, Luiz Aparicio award etc. Many may look at him as defensively flexible. Many who aren't close to him don't see the warts. Even Twins fans refuse to see the warts & like to look at him thru the specific stats lens. I enjoy Arraez's ABs and wouldn't trade him for just anyone, But if an owner is enamored with him & would like to include him in a trade for a front-line SP or an upgrade at catcher. I'd jump on it right now Cris E and TopGunn#22 2
Otaknam Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Arraez’ trade value is an all time high right now. But because of his limited skill set I don’t think he brings a frontline starter unless another significant player is included. I shudder to think that would include Lewis or Lee. The question to ask is whether the team can backfill Arraez’ spot in the lineup, and the answer defensively is yes since he has no primary position. His one tool is as an on base machine, a very underrated concept in MLB. That said, with Polanco set and 2b Julien raking at every minor league level and now in the 40 man roster, Arraez could be a trade candidate despite the fan backlash. But don’t trade him and other pieces for another number 3 or 4 starter. We have enough of those. Maybe a better option is to trade Polanco, who has a team friendly contract and is still a good player despite a down year.
Azviking101 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 I’m pretty late to this thread but I just don’t think Arraez has as much trade value as people think he does. He doesn’t play a position well and doesn’t hit for any power. He’s virtually unplayable against lefties (one of the worst OPS in the league) and he’s consistently dealt with some nagging injuries. He simply wouldn’t bring back the pitching talent people would want. Also, fans would be livid. He’s a valuable player but average fans see batting average over .300 and go absolutely nuts. It’s 100% the most important stat to fans that really don’t know a lot about baseball. For those reasons I don’t think it’s worth trading him
farmerguychris Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 I think this would be a good idea. Listen - we all like Arraez as a Twin. However as a long term part of our plans, is he going to stay healthy with these knees? If he played in the field as much in 2022 as he did in the past would he have won that batting title? I think now is the time to sell high on him - If we don't get a stud in return, then keep him -but certainly listen to offers.

Dave The Dastardly Verified Member Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 What's all this "trade value" talk? Is this Monopoly or baseball? If we look at Arraez' player value all we need to know is he hits the ball, more than anyone else on the team or in the league. Hits put men on base, hits drive in men on base. No hits, no runs. You obviously cherry-picked one small part of my post because If you think Arraez’ batting average is going to net an ace or even a number 2 then you’re crazy.
WhenWillWeBeatNY Verified Member Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Would be a stupid move. Why trade a player who balances out a team that strikes out a ton. This is an off-season where a ton of money is available for us and instead of signing an SP we want to trade for one? Makes no sense. Arraez is one of the only players on our team you can count on for consistent production Aggies7 1

Yes pitching was an issue last year but people forget how bad the offense was. It would be a lot worse without Arraez.
KBJ1 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Please do trade Arraez. He is a one tool player with zero speed, a bum knee, no power and a way below average fielder. If he becomes Tony Gwynn somewhere else, fine. At least he (Qwynn could run & play the field). We have a boatload of 2B and need OF power & SP. If someone offers a good SP ready prospect, JUMP ON IT! Sell high for once.

KBJ1 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Trading everyone makes no sense. Kepler is cheap insurance for solid Defense and the possibility of power. Trading him would make no sense at all, lest you want Cave back in RF. If a prospect finally comes along and supplants him, great. Til then NO. We let Rosario walk and have had a gaping hole in LF ever since. Meanwhile Rosario carries Atlanta into the WS all by himself, lest you have forgotten.
SanoMustGo Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I frankly don't care what the FO does, as long as it doesn't lead to a 3rd consecutive losing season. No thanks to re-living post 92 to 2000 seasons again.
