The game against San Diego he took the loss for, the hits against him were a grounder an average 1B makes a play on and a flair off the end of the bat that fell into RF. He does give up the occasional long ball, but when he isn't walking guys he is a + reliever. Even the worst relievers get the job done more often than not. They all go through streaks. He will blow up again shortly. Absolute guarantee. Teams like the Yankees or Dodgers would have DFAd him ages ago. I understood before the deadline because they didn’t have anyone better but now they have better and they’re demoting them to AAA because they won’t move on. Newsflash to the Twins- you still need to win the division. It’s not being handed to them.

Pagan's numbers are right in line with Chapman from the Yankees and Kimbrel from the Dodgers. All relievers are 1 or 2 bad outings from having a bad back of the baseball card.
Azviking101 Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 But Pagan’s last 11 innings were so good…

Chapman and Kimbrel will receive HOF votes when all is said and done. Pagan has never and will never be any good. Your comparison is embarrassing
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Alcala officially done for the year. Elbow surgery (not TJS).
Danchat Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Author Posted August 5, 2022 Let's not forget this is the Roster Moves thread, not debating over how bad Pagan is thread. I'm sure one of those will pop up very soon...

jun Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Dinelson Lamet is available. I think Twins should pick him up. Duffey needs to be let go now. And Pagan should be next.
ScottyB Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Great news. Per Ruesse: Duffey DFA’d, Sands recalled.

ScottyB Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Now confirmed on MLB trade rumors.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Jharel Cotton and Aaron Sanchez have both cleared waivers and accepted outright assignments to AAA St. Paul, so they'll remain in the Twins system (just off the 40-man roster).
ScottyB Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 With Duffey off the 40 man, we should be able to put Cotton back on soon.

Not to mention that Cotton has already been DFA'd 3 different times this year... and then also brought up during the COVID stretch... yeah, the Twins clearly wish he had an option left.
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Speaking of avoiding work on a Friday afternoon, I took a spin through the Hitting statistics for the St. Paul Saints to see if we could find and promote that elusive additional bat that we need. Boy was that depressing. Frankly, the best hitter left down there is Jermaine Palacios. We saw what he can do when he was up for Correa; good glove, no bat. Looks like we'll have to find that additional offense from Gordon, Cave, Kepler's return, or somebody another team lets go.

Was Rule 5 eligible last winter, and will be again this winter.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Joe Smith was released from the team after clearing waivers. Aaron Sanchez and Jharel Cotton accept the assignment to St Paul.
ScottyB Verified Member Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Kepler activated. Contreras optioned.
ScottyB Verified Member Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Kirilloff has season ending wrist surgery. Guess technically we could get #11 on the 60 day IL. Might also be a swap off for eventually Maeda or Ober?
Danchat Verified Member Posted August 7, 2022 Author Posted August 7, 2022 Kepler activated, Contreras sent down.

Has he played any LF? We are going to face 3 or 4 LH starters this week - Urias of the Dodgers, and Detmers and Saurez of the Angels for sure. The Wednesday Dodger game is TBD for the Dodgers since Kershaw is out. I think a RH OF is an important missing piece for this roster, especially with an very uncertain return time for Garlick. I was hoping to find that on the Saints' roster to replace Beckham or Cave but I'm not seeing it.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Tyler Duffey was released from the team after clearing waivers.

ScottyB Verified Member Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Twins claim Jake Jewell off waivers from Guardians. He’s a right hander. He takes Duffey’s spot on the 40 man. He has options remaining, so likely left with Saints for now.

ScottyB Verified Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 To be truthful, Jewell is just fodder for AAA. His career MLB numbers are awful. -0.8 WAR, career 1.617 WHIP, 7.75 ERA. We don’t need someone with career numbers worse than Duffey or Pagan. He’ll be one of the first off when 60 day guys need to be activated.
