All-Star Sunday

Today is the day that MLB names the pitchers and remaining members of the All-Star team. Each team must have one representative. The Twins already have Jorge Polanco going to Cleveland as the AL's starting shortstop. I am wondering how many more will be named today. To me, there are probably six or seven more candidates and my best guess is that the Twins will end up with three All-Stars total, kind of a low number considering how ell the team has play in the first three months.

 

CJ Cron, Max Kepler, Nelson Cruz and Eddie Rosario all could make cases to be selected to the team. On the pitching side, Jose Berríos and Jake Odorizzi have good numbers and high win totals and Taylor Rogers is my sneaky pick to get an All-Star nod. 

 

What do you think Twins fans? Is three enough, is four too many? Are there others who should be considered?

I actually don’t want to see any of our pitchers in the All-Star game. I want them to rest.

It’s a 100% lock that Kepler makes it. Not that he couldn’t make it on merit alone, but the commissioners office has final say and I’m SURE MLB would love their first European born all star in quite some time. Especially right after the Yankees/Red Sox series.

Kepler

Berrios

Rogers

 

With Odorizzi eventually making is as others withdraw

Since Hunter Pence is injured but was elected the DH starter, that leaves a spot open for Cruz.

Also, how does ONE player out of the best OF in the league not make it, or our ace or best reliever.

Kepler way better season than Mookie Betts.

 

Garver has been better than James McCann.

 

Rogers has been better than Brad Hand.

 

Even Cron could beconsidered more deserving than Jose Abreu, when considering that whole winning thing.

Heh, that's pretty pathetic. I thought Berrios and Rogers would at least make it in... Berrios made it to the All-Star game last year and I'm pretty sure he's been better this year. Have fun with your popularity contest, MLB, I could care less about the All-Star game. As cjj td mentioned, perhaps the team can use this disrespect for motivation.

Totally disagree. This isn't the Pro Bowl or the NBA where the same players are in every year. This means something to these guys, they've said it. I'm sure they're extremely disappointed.

Kepler the worse snub, I think. Berrios maybe. Garver, Castro, Buxton hurt by relatively low counting results due to low number of games played/PA. Some others are close, but probably on the outside looking in. I take it as a strong comment on the balance and depth the club has shown this season

Disappointing, but not surprising.

 

I hate to think things like All-Star snubs and never reaching the top of the "power rankings" despite spending the majority of the first half as the best team in A.L. and MLB would be needed to further motivate pros, but if it does I'll gladly take it.

I had to look up to remind myself how it was done. "The reserves and pitchers are selected from the Commissioner's Office and the players." Sporting News.

Feels like a lot of oversights, but I guess we're can't blame fan voting anymore.

 

A lot to say, but it's an exhibition game in the end.

 

I thought they're consider Berrios for sure, maybe more. They love marketing repeat all-stars.

 

On the other hand, my biggest fear is that this team will turn into the '01 Twins. Guzman and Mays were all-stars. Just sayin'.

Kepler, Rosario, Berrios and Rogers deserve to be selected. Garver and Cruz should be selected if not being on the DL. Garver was also hurt by losing playing time to Astudillo and Castro. Buxton always plays all-star defense. He is getting close.

Mookie Betts was the leading vote getter for the OF among players. Maybe it was done last year?
