Career BA:

Willians Astudillo .368

Ty Cobb .366

According to Newton's second law, force (F) equals mass (m) times acceleration (a), written as F = ma. With algebra we can write F/m = a, which means that as mass goes up, acceleration goes down. So, when Willans Astudillo accelerated to catch a pop foul a couple games ago, he fell short of the catch by one foot, a distance equivalent to increasing his mass by the weight of a single large breakfast burrito (plus a big glass of horchata, of course). He literally missed that catch by 3.232 pounds! And I just made all that up!

Two key stats for the Twins team: they are second in the AL in runs scored (251) despite playing 1+ games less than Houston. They are second in homers to Seattle, but the Mariners have played four more games than the Twins. The Twins are averaging the most homers per game for any AL team, but are second in most runs per game to Texas.

Buxton didn't hit a single home run last month, but he's up to 4 this month. I don't expect him to be a power guy, but 20 HR a year to go with that speed and defense would be pretty amazing.

If it's a Tuesday, it's OPS Ranks!

The Twins have just one extra innings game this year, and it went only into the 10th. This is great, keeps the team fresh.

Number of walkoff wins and losses: zero. Also good when you are winning more than you are losing.

This makes me wonder whether it was something heavier than an apple that hit him in the head!

Are you referring to Newton or Jimbo?

And your answer is.... YES.

Last year before June 1st Twins had 2 walk off wins and 8 walk off losses.

Record for team HR in a season is 267 for the Yankees in 2018. Twins are on pace for approx 310.

I predict multiple teams beat the record of 267 this season.

In his career, Martin Perez has never come close to striking out a batter per inning in any given season. This year: 53Ks in 53IP. He’s also given up (way) more than a hit per inning every year in his career (for example, in 2017; 221 hits in 185IP) except 2014 (50 hits / 51 IP). This year: 45 hits in 53 innings. And that’s with a reasonable .293 BABIP.

New cutter, new coach, new confines, new confidence. Lock this guy in.

Twins have the best record in baseball and can't crack the top 5 in the power rankings.  It think it's an mlb.com rule that no more than one small market team can be in the top 5 at any time,  so the upcoming Rays series is looming large.

Every other Power Rankings I've seen has them in the top 5. Mostly 3rd and 4th.

Twins remaining schedule tidbits:

Home Games - 58

Road Games - 56

Against .500 or Better - 53 (28 - Home) (25 - Road)

Against Under .500 - 61 (30 - Home) (31 - Road)

vs AL - 99 (48 - Home) (51 - Road)

vs NL - 15 (10 - Home) (5 - Road)

So ...

10-15 in those 25 road games against "good" teams

53-36 in those 89 games otherwise

32 wins in the bank

95 wins

That blows my 84 win prediction out of the water.

It's an MLB rule that wins against Baltimore count as losses against any other team in the power rankings.

I’m confused. This thread has traditionally been a place to find “fun” ways to describe the Twins’ futility. I’m nonplussed by all of these actually fun numbers this year.

Ho him...

Twins on pace for 327 HRs.

Buxton on pace for 61 doubles.

Perez and Berríos on pace for 23 wins.

Twins on pace for 110 wins.

Rosario on pace for 48 homers.

Sano on pace for 83 HRs in 117 games.

Astudillo on pace for 6 homers, 6 walks, and 10 strikeouts.
