Well, if you lose any series ending games, the season is over, as far as I can tell.

Ah yes the 96 Twins. Radke gave up a cool 40 HR that year, probably around the time he was in that video game commercial with a conga line of HR after HR against him. Twins big bopper that year? Swinging Marty Cordova with 16 long balls. All 5 Twins regular starters gave up 20+ HR.

I missed out that season... The first Twins game I went to was in 97 or 98 because I remember Bob Tewksbury throwing beach ball change ups for the Twins.

His batting average was .328 (!!) During his Cardinals tenure. Trout gets a lot of love, deservedly so, but I think we forget how amazing Pujols was too.

Not a surprise as his PA in LA start to catch up to what he did in St Louis. He’s been extremely pedestrian from day one in LA. He was effextively the first casualty of the post steroid era. Without that extra help, the aches and pains of simply aging are just too much for someone to maintain the level of world class athlete, particularly in the grind that is a 162 game MLB schedule.

NOT Fun with Numbers:

In Cleveland's next 35 games, only 3 games (against the Twins) are against teams with a record above .500. This will be their time to make a run if it's in the cards this season.

An update on my two posts from yesterday...

Since June 2nd, when we had an 11.5 game lead:

Cleveland has gone 23-6 against truly bad teams (DET, KCR, BAL, TOR). But they've also gone 18-10 against the rest (not all world-beaters, of course, but not truly awful like the aforementioned clubs).

The Twins have only managed 17-10 against truly bad teams in the same stretch (DET, SEA, KCR, CHW, MIA), and 13-18 against the rest. (Our trend may be improving vs bad teams, though, 8-2 in our last 10.)

So we're in this position, in part, due to the Twins own relative under-performance vs awful teams, and in part due to Cleveland's strong performance against non-awful teams.

The Twins have 26 games remaining against truly bad teams, while Cleveland only has 16. That's an advantage for the Twins, but we'll still need to reverse the trends of the last 2 months to prevail.

Right now the only team that can pitch with Cleveland is Houston. If Kluber comes back strong, it might be a push.

I looked at Rogers’ game logs. I counted at least 4 times when Rogers was used for more than 1 IP (and usually it was 2) and then was used the next day and pitched poorly. That accounts for roughly half the runs he’s given up on back to backs in less than 4 IP.

Point being, pitching on consecutive days isn’t ideal, but it is something he’s going to need to do, particularly in the postseason. And he is usually ok doing so as long as he doesn’t get overly extended in the previous game.

So the real note to Rocco is stop using Rogers for 2 innings at a time. Hopefully Dyson will be who he is supposed to be going forward and that problem should be taken care of.
