Trade Deadline Discussion Thread

I am wondering if the Brewers are still in on Dozier, but they are waiting to see what the cost would be to add pitching first?  Maybe Houston is interested in Dozier as a stop gap?  That;s about all I can think of for where he might go.  I am guessing the return will be very low but this FO has found a way to extract exciting young talent so maybe he will fetch something interesting in the end.  I am guessing it goes down to the wire with with BulDozier.

Here's another fun thought exercise: If Fernando Rodney gets dealt, who becomes closer?

Conventional wisdom probably says Addison Reed, but my guess is Molly would turn it over to Matt Belisle. Honestly.

Ugh. That is one reason to not trade Rodney, imo. I'd much rather have the FRE than the MBE ... besides, I like the FRE acronym better ... easier to work into conversation.

Edit: btw ... that isn't a 'fun' thought exercise.

After which the front office should DFA Belisle to teach him a lesson. I'g guess Hildenberger just because Reed is coming off of an injury and is under contract for next year; I'll bet the FO makes it crystal clear to Molitor that Reed is to be brought back slowly.

But honestly, with his low walk rate (at least this year) I'd make Magill the closer. Turn him into the next Brandon Kintzler, an unknown who came out of nowhere. Though Molitor clearly doesn't like him so that ain't happening.

Um, to teach Belisle a lesson? What lesson? Not to have our FO sign him? Should he have said, 'Oh, please, don't sign me.'

How about predicting who hits walk-offs off Belisle once he's the closer?  I got Lindor.

My guess is 'Whoever comes up first to face him.'

I read it as they would be teaching Molitor a lesson by releasing Belisle.

Ah, right ... sometimes you have to read the quoted of the quoted of the quoted to get the right meaning. :)

This would be akin to tanking in my opinion.

Ha, sorry, no I meant Molitor was to learn the lesson.

I'm a jerk but as much as I endorse the move, I'd still sympathize with Belisle should he be DFA'd.

Why all the hate for Dozier? He has had some amazing seasons for the Twins! He clearly has been pressing in his walk year. Is there anything to the rumors that he has been a problem in the clubhouse? We forget that these players are 20-30 year old kids!

No, he is having more of a typical "Dozier season" with the exception of 2016 and part of 2017.

So.... All quiet on the western front from the sounds of things.

Does anyone get dealt today? Bit surprised that all we are hearing is crickets.

I'd rather see Adrianza than Dozier, to be perfectly honest about it. Not because I think Ehire is a better player but because I'd rather get a good look at whether he can become the 2019 Escobar.

Nah. Adrianza turns 29 years old this month. There's nothing I could see from him in August or September that would change how I approach the 2019 infield -- Adrianza is a fine utility guy, but I want to be confident in my starters at all 3 spots.

Dropping Dozier now just means you will have to roster Motter or Petit again, and start them a few times too (especially if you give Sano any time at 1B/DH). And if the unthinkable happens and you make the playoffs, remember Polanco is ineligible too so Motter or Petit would actually be starting in the postseason (although I am sure many would be so delirious from the comeback that they wouldn't care).

Edit: if you can get good value for Dozier, obviously you can move him. But I don't think I'd give him away for salary relief or to open up a spot for Adrianza at this point.

Just over an hour left so here is my prediction. Dozier is traded to the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters for 300 pounds of Ahi-grade tuna and the rights to a "to be named" player.

Too many names with more promise than the Twins collection of rentals (including the Doze)...I don't expect anything on the Twins dudes until 2:50

Expecting a technology breakdown at the MLB offices around 2:45

Response from MLB "Our phone system works fine most of the time...maybe we need more than 4 incoming lines after all"

My 'issue' with Dozier is that he is an expiring contract and all must go.  :-)  Now is the time of year teams that have no/low odds of making playoffs get excited about trading everyone.

There is this anticipation as you are hitting the refresh button that the shiny new minor league prospect is going to be a key cog for years to come.

Its a bit like how opening boxes/packs of baseball cards was for me...you go to Shinders (w/o the knowledge that all the good cards have already been siphoned) and you flip through card after card until you see that Rich Becker rookie card and you proclaim 'This might be worth something someday'.  2 years later you are trying to convince your slightly dumber friend to trade for it because it says 'Premier Prospect' and its still really valuable.

It sounds like the O's are close on a deal that would send Jonahtan Schoop ... somewhere. His availability has to have created some issues for the Twins in trying to move Dozier.

I don't think anymore trades happen today for the Twins but I think they'll sneak a few guys - Morrison and Santana, through waivers for later trades.

Is this just a game of chicken at the deadline?  Dang I keep thinking they will trade Dozier but nothing yet.  This game of deal or no deal is killing me.

My first reaction upon reading this is there's no way Schoop and Dozier are comparable offensively. But what do you know. Schoop flew under my radar and is pretty good with the stick.

Also, I believe Schoop has one more year of control.

I predict that the Phillies just sent TD into a pheeding phrenzy with their catcher acquisition...

He's a free agent after the season. If the Twins want him, they can get him then.

Can't believe that it would have cost more than the dollar savings on some of the other deals made to have Ramos for the rest of this year

EDIT: have him whenever his hammy is all better to the end of the season
