I don't know the prospects but not excited to acquire Forsythe.

Meh, it probably just means they aren't going to rush Gordon (good) and aren't going to start Motter each night at 2B (good)

So, we take Forsythe off their hands, and the best prospect is #19.  I'm not real excited with this return.

Not terribly surprised by it. They have a good system. Their #19 is a decent prospect. Forsythe is added because Gordon isn't ready.

Yeah, good point.

So Twins equivalent for Archer:

Berrios

Kiriloff

+

Besides, he didn't want to be here after the last series

Uh, no. Glasnow isn't comparable to Berrios.

As expected, the return for Dozier is next to nothing. Forsythe is a free agent to be.

However, that is not as important to me as wishing Brian the best with everything from now forward and thanking him for 6+ great years. He and Justin Morneau combine to make my 2 favorite Twins players of all time. The memories were priceless.

Brian and I had several meetings in several ballparks. I got a selfie and a signature from him at Target Field, a signature in Kansas City in 2014, and I believe I ran into him at PNC Park back in 2015 also.

Classy man. Good player. This won't be an easy loss for the Twins fan base to overcome.

Berrios and Kiriloff are way more valuable than Glasnow and Meadows. I think Kiriloff profiles a lot like Meadows with less speed and plays the corner instead of center. But, Berrios and Glasnow are not close. Glasnow is a failed started who has already been converted to full-time bullpen duties at age 24 and has 5.5 bb/9 to boot. Berrios looks like an ace and should be untouchable at this point in time, IMO. I think Romero + Kiriloff + would have gotten it done.

Based on the trade return, the Twins must have already made the decision not to offer Dozier a QO.

I would hope so...$18M for another roller-coaster ride of a season...no thanks

The Twins took Forsythe back because he and Dozier have matching salaries. Forsythe himself is worth nothing, a net negative even.

So the Twins ate money on the Lance Lynn deal, the Dozier deal and even a bit on the Zack Duke deal. I'm still annoyed they traded away Hughes for cash, but over all they've eaten more in the last couple of days then they saved on Hughes.

Initial impressions:

Smeltzer looks like low grade org filler. Raley looks OK, but doesn't scream building block.

Raley is a LH, corner OF/1B, almost 24 years old with a 119 wRC+ in AA, below average BB%, above average K%.

I guess neither "prospect" needs to be added to the 40 man this offseason, but I am still really scratching my head over this one.

For that return, why not just keep him and let 2018 play out?

Very disappointed in this front office. Seasons shouldn't be tossed aside so casually.

i have no problem playing forsythe for that reason - but the real reason he was included was to keep Dodgers under lux tax reset figure.

Huh, that return seems, um, light to me......I probably would have kept him at that point. If Gordon was knocking on the door, but he's not....so I'm not sure I get this one.

The return for Dozier isn't really the FO's fault. And btw, I am not trying to be a FO apologist here. It's frankly BD fault. In a contract year, he has put together a pretty unimpressive season. In the previous two years he was so hot and so cold for so long, it was hard to tell which player he was. In the eyes of the guys who make decisions, he pretty much buried himself this year. Add in the fact that he is a rental, and occupies a position of surplus, and he was 0-3 in the "things needed to increase value" dept. His value had gotten to the point that whether he left or stayed had become a moot point.

I feel your pain, but Dozier was not playing very well and apparently they did not see a future for him.

The decision to trade him at all could be, though.

This does seem to be our weakest trade of the deadline, which suggests perhaps we just should have kept him.

Dozier hasn't played well. If he was destroying the ball after the ASB, I think Falvine would have been in a better place to negotiate. As it is, they didn't force their hand to call up Gordon early and managed to pick up a bat first 1B/DH in the high minors. Considering we have some needs there, it was a pretty solid get. I think this is more a play for 2020 than 2019, but given that Dozier was gone in a few months, it's not a bad option.

Given Dozier's level of play, he may look for a 1 year deal to improve his stock. MN wouldn't be a bad destination there. I don't think they should be counting on Gordon for 2019.

There is no future (this year) for any other 2B option at this point......so, I'm not sure that matters.

I got what they were doing until this deal. Dozier had to go, but as was pointed out, Gordon isn't ready.

Better to play it all out.

Maybe Dozier passes through on a waiver deal in August, or maybe they QO him in the offseason.

But this sparse return is throwing out the season with the bathwater-

and having yet ANOTHER "light-hitting-Logan" around just adds a ring-around-the-bathtub insult to their own self-inflicted injury.

I wish that the Twins could package most/all of the recent acquisitions into a mass trade for Realmuto. The Marlins would get a lot of depth in their farm system and the Twins would get a star catcher.

Posted

One thing.....Dozier has not been quiet in his criticism of past moves, and he may have wanted out of here, and they may have obliged him on that, to spare the clubhouse.

I REALLY DOUBT THAT is the case, but it is possible.

I love this as a hypothetical, but I have the feeling the Marlins value quality over quantity more than the Twins do.

I see an August/September 2018 future.

Which was worth more than the org filler and contract swap they got for him.

According to BRef- Forsythe and Dozier are both making $9M this year.

The Twins didn't even get salary relief?

Posted

Nah. Adrianza turns 29 years old this month. There's nothing I could see from him in August or September that would change how I approach the 2019 infield -- Adrianza is a fine utility guy, but I want to be confident in my starters at all 3 spots.

Let me clarify my point: I want to see if Ehire can become the 2019 "what we expected him to be on Opening Day" Escobar.

In other words, a roving infield bat and glove, not a starter.

Because I'm not sold on Adrianza being even the utility IF guy next season if other options are available.
