He doesn't have an option. Does he need to be reinstated at the end of the suspension? What if he needs more time to get ready? Can he be put on the DL to continue rehab?

According to Rhett Bollinger this set back isn't changing his return date of July 2.

Just like Santana would be back May 1st, Mauer needed a day or two off with a stiff neck, Sano was day to day with a little hamstring tightness, etc.

July 2nd is 16 days away, of course this pushes back his return, and I don't get why the team continues to insist on unrealistic, best case timelines for every injury update.

its tough to say how bad it is. He could be fine in a couple days if he didn’t break any bones or cut any major blood vessels.

He will most likely start very rusty, no matter how long his rehab assignment is.

He should however be in mid season form when the Twins win the division and make their push for the ALCS

He’s been working out and playing in games this whole time.

It might change his readiness to return on July 2. He needs to perform at least as well as Adrianza has performed.

If he can play better than Mitterrand or Petit I'll be happy. (Autocorrect--should read Motter; but if he can play better than a dead French president, that's good too.)

Dang it...another bar I can no longer jump over.

He wasn't eligible to play any games until 20 days before his reinstatement.

"Polanco spent the early portion of his suspension working on strength, conditioning and mobility before playing extended spring training games. Falvey said Polanco has done “everything we’ve asked him,” adding that reports about his performance and attitude have been good."

Ok fair enough, but I don't consider extended ST games even remotely close to actual games that will get him up to speed.

The team probably also thinks he needs real games in Rochester before he comes up.

And those will start 20 games before his reinstatement and if not Rochester where Gordon plays, then in Chattanooga that does not have a regular SS.   He has to play every day and at SS in those games.

Yeah, that's my whole point.

He will need those 20 games, which will now push him past July 2nd, because of the hand injury.

The "hand injury" is nothing.  Have you ever jammed your hand in a car door?  Not a big deal.  He is not a pitcher

And of course, mid-season form Polanco will be watching the playoffs from his living room lounger as he isn't eligible for post-season play.

It was enough to delay the start of his rehab assignment, which is going to delay his return to the MLB team.

The article I read and the tweet from ... don’t remember who ... said that while it might push back the rehab assignment a little, they don’t expect to push back his start date.

And I'm saying that I don't believe them. Between Santana, Sano, and Mauer, they have a track record of publicly giving unrealistically optimistic return dates.

Polanco is going to need the full 20 days to be ready to play in MLB games, IMO.

And I’m not believing or disbelieving it, only saying what’s been said. I can’t rail on something that hasn’t happened yet. And, for me, it doesn’t matter. He hurt his hand and that’s what it is. It’s indicative of this whole season. And I’m not going to take some sort of stance that they are being completely clueless or intentionally dishonest either. Maybe foolishly hopeful, but it still is what it is and we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe he’s back July 2nd, maybe he’s not. While I hope for the best, I’m not holding my breath either.

It won't help him not to get the full 20 in,but they will likely bring him up for on the job training on the second. It's not like he is replacing Derek Jeter or for that matter Roy Smalley. :) Adrianza has been better, but is a quandary. Do we want him to get a hit and be on base, or do we want him just to plain stay off the bases. It's almost a toss Up!

I don’t think there’s anything magical about the number 20. It’s not like 19 is clearly not enough, but 20 is.

There is nothing magical about it. But 20 is the maximum that the rules allow, and he'll need as many as they can give him.
