New Closer Please

How many more blow saves do Twins fans need to go through before a change is made. Not sure when Perkins will be coming back but it is getting hard to see the starters put up decent starts just to see the bullpen blow another game. Maybe they can find someone in Rochester who could handle the role.

After tonight's game, I vote for Casey Fien.

Not sure if serious...

This is getting ridiculous. Jepsen has nearly blown every single save opportunity he's had. What is it - 2 saves in 6-8 attempts? How much rope will he get?

My vote is for still Jepsen, but Trevor May very soon.

Why not Alex Meyer? I'm pretty sure that Keith Law has written in the past that he could be a shutdown closer.

I really doubt Molitor would put a rookie in the closer role though.

I think that has a great chance of ultimately happening.

He's going to need to prove himself first, and I'm ok with that.

I still feel very strongly that we should have paid the price for two elite level bullpen guys in the off season. Not the average lower price stuff... The Good Stuff... with a price tag because they are good.

I really didn't like all these talented bull-penners moving around from team to team around us.

Yet... we stayed out of it.

My face was pressed against the Window watching all the fun.

What a horrible off season memory!!!

You know... come to think of it...

I wonder if a couple of good bullpen additions would have helped our current situation?

Let's let the minor league shuttle include MORE bullpen tries.

Don't know what's happening with Jepsen, but when you have to hand a closer a two-run lead, he's not a closer.

Perkins was not Perkins in the back half of 2015... Perkins still hasn't been Perkins

Jepsen... Is a Vet... Usually Decent... Happy he is here... but has been on the fringe of set-up roles of every squad he has been on. What he did for us last year was much appreciated but it was a little out of character. He's a Nice Bullpen Arm but not anyone other teams would try to acquire to fill a closing role.

May... Could be a Closer Eventually... He's our best option in my opinion right now... But if you move May to Closer... And Perkins not being Perkins and Jepsen... really a fringe set up guy.

Then

WE ARE REALLY WEAK AT SET UP IN COMPARISON TO EVERYONE ELSE.

2. Maybe 3 if the first 2 don't come in the next week. Like if it is 2 over 10 days, then 3.

I'm over calling for obvious moves from this front office. It makes no difference. I just watch the games, or part of them and hope the twins play well. Until Terry Ryan is out, that is all the further my fandom will be. I cannot continue to be frustrated and feel like breaking my hand every third day because he did or didn't do something. Not worth the stress brah.

May can't close because saves get factored into arbitration.

You bring up a good point. His first arbitration year is in 2018. I wonder what that would do to his price tag if he had, say 25-30 saves this season, and 1-5 saves next season*?

*I'm assuming by 2017, either Chargois or Burdi wins the closer role full-time

All of the best "closer" candidates are young and/or still in the minors and I think we have a pretty good idea at this point how Molitor likes to use young pitchers, that is, he doesn't.

If it's not May or Pressly sometime soon, I wonder if a Hughes/Nolasco/Gibson may be the closer if the rotation gets back to full strength, Jepsen still struggles and Perkins is AWOL.

It's hard to imagine they hired a manager, on a rebuilding team, that doesn't like using young pitchers.....after being the only club ever to use so many high picks on RPs........it's almost like there isn't a plan.....

Not living in Minnesota I don't get to read to listen to Sid.  Therefore I am almost certainly missing some critical details and I turn to this board.  What is the story with the Twin's ownership?  Do they want to win or not?  It seems pretty obvious Ryan has demonstrated beyond a doubt that he is not capable of handling his role.

What has to happen for a change to be made?  I'm serious about the question (if not about Sid), I just don't get it.

All managers are leery of using young pitchers. they do have a job to look out for.

That being said, I like Pressley and O'Rourke as dual closer.  Both have been called on in tough situations.

Exactly this.   The (readily available, easy to interpret!) data made it perfectly plain that we were gambling on Jepsen even last year.  Two impressive months does not a career make, and TR should have known better.
