I don't think that's the point Mr. Brooks was making with his original post. He was saying that young, hard throwing relievers are exactly the type of relievers that most GM's and managers are preferring today, because they give them the greatest chance of getting outs- and that's precisely because their jobs are on the line. Aging, washed up vets in the pen aren't some sort of market inefficiency.

 

I want the young hard throwers up, but going with youth has forever been considered the risk. Going with the vets has always been the safe choice.

I don't see anyone on the MLB roster who should be a closer--well, if that were a real position and not just a relief pitcher with a bigger spotlight. While somebody in the minors may have the arm, remember DET annointing Rodon. It doesn't always work.

 

They're kinda stuck and have to hope for the hot hand at this point. Maybe May will get his act together, but I don't trust him much more than Jepsen right now either. Just hope for a 3 R lead for once instead.

"Everyone" was saying bad teams should trade off their veteran closers, and go with youth. No one was saying the team didn't need RPs.......
