For the third time this season, a cranky right hip has sidelined Byron Buxton.

The star center fielder was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday by the Minnesota Twins with a right hip impingement. Outfielder Gabriel Gonzalez was called up from Triple-A St. Paul.

Buxton, an All-Star, also went on the IL on July 6 and July 29 with the right hip issue. When on the field, Buxton has a slash line of .254/.319/.511 with 25 homers and 46 RBIs. But the hip injury has hindered him at the plate and in the field. Buxton has not homered since June 22.

Gonzalez came up briefly at the end of May to make his MLB debut and went 1-for-2 before being sent back to Triple-A, where he has a .254/.318/.423 slash line with 15 homers and 51 RBIs in 106 games.

Why Gonzalez lol.

and before you tell me something about hitting lefties, Roden had a .850 ops in AAA and 5-11 vs lefties while Gonzalez has a .780 ops against lefties

Of all the hitters in AAA who could get the call, Gonzalez is the weakest hitter by far

Im so sick of the whole teams bowing to Buxton and his playing availability.  They only pitches him on the 10 day IL?  They should have put him our for the season then try to convince him to retire this off season.  Even if he comes back there will only be about 15 games left and the Twins way out of it.  What's the point?

Erod time! Buxton forced himself off the IL to receive the $20,000 Field of Dreams bonus. Very selfish player. Have surgery, get healthy then help the team next year. Mauer 2.0 doing more harm than good for the team with their no trade contract and poor production.

The man's base salary is $15 million a year. A $20,000 bonus is to him as $100 is to a person making $75,000 a year. Would you come to work injured, knowing you'd be criticized for underperformance as well as being in pain, for $100?

I do think Buxton forced himself off the IL/rushed his way back/pushed to return/whatever you want to call it.  However, I think he did it for the team and wanted to help.

It was also a clearly wrong decision for his health and performance, which sadly also worked against what he was trying to accomplish.

We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. I do agree he should never have come off IL. And, though I’d get frustrated with how Mauer/the club handled some of his issues, he was Lou Gehrig compared to Buxton.

I’d love to know the rationale for waiting…especially this time around.

You disliked my post above, tell me why. I gave only real stats. So tell me how they’re wrong

Between ERod, Wallner, Roden, and Gabby, they go Gonzalez... seems to imply Austin Martin isn't as close to ready to go as we think he is given they went with the righty. I'd like to see Gonzalez get some September ABs, but ERod desperately needs some before next year. Seems like they are done with Wallner.

Listen here, Tom Pohlad made that call. He wasn't about to let Buxton stay on his sofa! Tom needed the $$!!

at least they didn't wait ten days to put him on the ten day this time

Maybe before this they thought you had to wait ten days in order to put a player on 10 day IL.

Should've been ERod called up. Last option year, we need to see how he fares against some MLB pitching. His defense would be a big upgrade over Larnach, too.

Just let Buck get that surgery and get his hip right. He's not doing himself or the team any favors by trying to play injured.

Will Gonzalez even play? Or did he get called up to sit on the bench? Atleast it wasnt Gray called up again.

Gonzalez isn’t the worst hitter on the Saints either talent-wise or by results. Particular against lefties. And it seems they’re fine with Gonzalez being platooned, as they were already doing some of that with him with the Saints. I’d have no problem at all if it had been ERod. And probably would have been ERod (or both) by now if they had been able to move Larnach.
