Regarding Miranda, he had things figured out in 2024 when he was hit in the head by a pitch. He has not recovered from that, probably due to a concussion.  Those can take years to recover from, so maybe in 2026 or 2027 he'll get back to where he was and finally have that career Twins fans were hoping for.

Jose Miranda's HBP in head was 07/28/2024.

Before HBP, Miranda was .324/.367/.517 OPS .884 wRC+ 149 BABIP .349, 5.0% BB, 13.5%K, .193 ISO
After the HBP, Miranda was .211/.236/.303 OPS .539 wRC+ 48 BABIP .261, 2.7% BB, 18.9%K, .092 ISO

'll nominate Oswaldo Arcia.

I don't agree, he didn't hit close to as well as some of the others mentioned in the majors.

Man...has any player in recent memory had a dropoff like Julien?

Not a bad return, but wow.

Jose Miran-duh

Hey guys, this is a class move by an organization that demonstrates the Twins really care about their players.

Neither Julien, nor Ohl were going anywhere with the Twins, and so the Twins made a deal in which either or both of them would have a shot at a Major League career with the lowly Rockies.

No other way to see this.  And you know what?  Other MLBers notice and it inures to the benefit of the Twins organization as being a class operation.  Whatever else happens, Julien and Ohl have careers on the line, family, friends and a lifetime of working to make it in MLB.

Hats off to them and the Twins for providing this opportunity.

His totals aren’t as good but I think he got off to a pretty hot start.

Maybe Sano?  Miranda?

Obviously we're not seeing any major signings and we all hate the self-imposed payroll cap, but this actually seems like a clever move in getting somewhat decent return for two DFA guys. Will miss that weird Canadian, though -- couple years back saw him absolutely crush a monster homer for Team Canada at the WBC and joked to my friend we should trade Polanco and hand him the starting job. And then they did! And it worked (until it didn't).

Just checking my memory on Arcia. He finished his rookie season with an OPS of .734, but his first month it was .900. He was still at .842 in late June, then he slowed down. He did have a very good first few months.

Julien peaked at an amazing peak of .318 BA, .394 OBP, .574 SLG and .968 OPS in mid-July of his rookie season. He finished at .263/.381/.459/.839, He continued to be good at taking walks but got worse at hitting and hitting for power. I didn't realize how big that dropoff was in the second half of the season. Good final numbers, but looking at August and September his BA was .237 and then .202.

Well... Good Luck to both. Should be a good organization for Julien to build his career.

If both remained healthy. The Twins were going to have to choose between Clemens and Julien. Looks like the Twins have chosen Clemens.

Completely agree.  It looks like the Twins had made their choices and decided that there was no point in keeping it a secret any longer.  This way, both will have a shot at playing in the majors next year for the Rockies.  I don’t predict stardom for either one, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if particularly Julien found some additional success.

I was a very big Julien fan when he came up, but unfortunately the wheels came off the bus for him here.  Good luck to him (and Ohl) with the Rockies!

Who is the next to go off the 40-man roster - Alex Jackson, Ryan Kriedler, James Outman or Travis Adams?

I think you lined them up just about right. Although I prefer that they all be replaced by better players by the end of the spring.

I see a lot of people quick to point to julien’s hot rookie season and steep drop off, but did everyone forget that he hit .310 this past September? I may have a tendency to get too attached to guys and want to hold onto them too long, but wasn’t there cause for renewed optimism?

There are a few that note that stat, but it's putting quite a bit of optimism in 49 PA.  Especially since his previous 460 were abysmal.

Especially with his September BABIP at an astronomical .464.

A return of that stat to his established norm close to .300 means that the month was likely a blip.

Another pitcher coming off tommy john that going miss half the season

Why is that a concern?  He is in A ball.  It's not like he was going to have any role on the big-league club.  We have a ton of pitchers needing auditions so the fact that he is a couple years away is not a problem.

Feels like the Twins have shed all of the fringe players who played well in small sample sizes in September - Julien, Ohl, Laweryson, Pereda, etc.

Most of them, the pitchers anyway, only ever saw Minneapolis because of the sell-off. Pereda was there for the catcher injuries and Julien was not in that category, he'd been up and down for several years.

I guess that is true, but actually granting a release gives them the ability to sign with whoever they want.

My impression has been that the Twins have treated players fairly with a few exceptions and that ex-players like Taylor, Pressly and Hawkins come back after their careers are over indicates good relations as well.

Nice way to trim some fat.  Jace seems to have a shot. Good projectable frame. Hopefully the arm heals up.  Probably hear more about him next season.

Wouldn’t both players still end up in Colorado in your scenario as they have the first claim on the waiver wire?

So outside of losing out on the pitcher prospect, wouldn’t the result be the same?

I also believe, in general, the Twins treat their players well. I will add some detail that I don't think many know.

It was Pressly who reached out to the Twins to see if he could help out in a player development role in the bullpen.  The Twins didn't reach out to Pressly.  Pressly played 6.5 years in Houston and from Dallas area.  One would think if he wanted to get into coaching/player development, Houston would be the logical fit, but he chose the Twins.  This was stated on a recent Gleeman and the Geek episode.
