jaimedude Verified Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Steal from the Guardiand lineage and Blue Jays. Demarlo Hale because he learned from one of the best in Terry Francona. Hale would unlock the secret to beating Cleveland, probably already has good knowledge of Twins being he was the Guardians acting manager. It's outside the organization and not an obvious selection. Doctor Wu Verified Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 I'd stay clear of any of the ex-MLB managers, but several of the names on your "Up-and-Comers" list look like interesting and plausible choices. Even some of the coaches with who served short stints as managers might be worth looking at. What sort of time frame do you think we are looking at? A new manager chosen by the end of October? Jerr 1
jctwins Verified Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 People forget TK was young and different when he changed the direction of the team on the field. The ideal outcome is a new and different approach, with respect for stuff like consistency and lineups. Either way none of it likely matters under the Pohlad Falvey regime.
bunsen82 Verified Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 No Derek Shelton??? Should be somewhere on the list. Danchat 1
Chembry Verified Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 That list outdated and looks to be from 2024, This is just a few of the list that I know off the top of my head: Skip Schumaker left the Marlins after the 2024 season and is now an assistant to the GM for the Rangers. He probably has the inside track to the Rangers managerial position. David Bell was fired in 2024 by the Reds and now vice president of baseball operations and assistant general manager for the Blue Jays. The Reds are now managed by Terry Francona Scott Servias was fired the Mariners in 2024 and now works for the Padres in player development Will Venable is now the White Sox manager. My guess is the Twins will look hard at both Jayce Tingler and Toby Gardenhire. Personally, I like Scott Servais. He is a local guy (Lacrosse, WI) and has experience with rebuilding teams. He managed Seattle from 2016-2024. In 2019 Seattle finished with a 68-94 record and they traded away a bunch of players after 2018 and at the 2019 deadline. By 2021 he had them back to a 90 win team by 2021.
SteveLV Verified Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Google fail, tons of errors. Significant omission: Bochy. 4 WS rings. Knows what the heck he is doing, and the players should (and better) respect the heck out of him. 70, but reportedly still wants to manage. bunsen82 1

I'm not going that route. Stealing from the Rays and Joe Maddon's lineage is how we are where we are now. And really, a lot of what Baldelli did seemed to be what he thought Maddon would do, but without the nuance OR big picture thought behind the moves. I don't want the next manager to simply be thinking, what would Terry Francona do?

I think Hale did a good job with Cleveland last year, had them playing well.

It seems like all the errors on the initial list are consistent with it being a year old. For example, Clayton McCullough, Will Venable, and Don Kelly are on the list and all have manager jobs now, in addition to Miguel Cairo getting an interim manager gig. So the reason Bochy's not here is that he had a job a year ago. Noting from recent reporting (facts or rumors) that John Gibbons is not returning to the Mets' coaching staff, and Schumaker is reported to be the favorite for the Rangers job.
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Former MLB managers who could be available: David Ross Scott Servais Brandon Hyde Dave Martinez Bruce Bochy (Posey says he won't hire him for SF) Derek Shelton Bob Melvin Buck Showalter Bud Black Don Mattingly Mike Redmond Joe Maddon Joe Girardi David Bell Phil Nevin Skip Schumaker (HIRED by TEX) Walt Weiss John Gibbons Jeff Banister Fredi Gonzalez DeMarlo Hale (was interim) Jayce Tingler Charlie Montoyo

SteveLV Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Schumaker 4 year deal with Texas. Gonzo.
jaimedude Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Giants interviewed Kurt Suzuki for their managerial position. Was always impressed with Kurt as Twins catcher. Wonder if the Twins will interview him. He seems like he would be well prepared to be a manager. Cleveland had success hiring Voght.
jaimedude Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 I liked David Bell as Reds manager, good baseball guy and manager. Would not mind seeing the Twins hire Bell.
jaimedude Verified Member Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 James Rowson, could he be a candidate for Twins manager? Yankees hitting coach. Twins had one of their better hitting approach as a team in 2019 when Rowson was here. Still relatively young. I would not mind seeing the Twins interview him gor the managers role. I think he would build a string MLB staff. Think he would make a good choice as manager for the Twins. Benchwarmerjim, Irishman and farmerguychris 3
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 Absolutely would like that.

Chembry Verified Member Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 I assume Scott Servais will have the inside track for the SD Padres position. Pure speculation of course, but he currently works for the Padres in player development. I like him for the Twins position because of his player development experience and he has direct experience with rebuilds.
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 You know who SD should take? Bruce Bochy. He's played and managed for them in the past, and if they finish ahead of SF they can rub it in Posey's face.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 I really don't want a familiar face coming in, that seems too comfortable for everyone involved. To start out, I want them to have NO comfort. And not just because I'm petty and jaded, but because I don't want anyone to know what to expect so they're constantly learning and adapting to changes whether they'd like to or not. But also because I'm petty and jaded. Vanimal46 and NotAboutWinning 2

Ideally Falvey is not in charge to lead a rebuild in year 10 but here we are. The hire is going to be as comfortable as a warm dinner on a chilly rainy night like tonight. Richie the Rally Goat 1
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 I’m just going to talk about the elephant in the room. The Twins are one of 4 MLB franchises that have had managers who are all white in their history. Do you think it’s coincidence the first 2 announced names we’ve interviewed are Ramon Vazquez and James Rowson? With Torii Hunter being discussed heavily here as a candidate? You’re not living in 2025 if you don’t think that’s being considered. Hrbowski and Richie the Rally Goat 2

But also because I'm petty and jaded. I understand the trepidation and hesitancy, but Rownson has coached for three other franchises with success developing younger hitters. Who is still on the Twins that Rowson coached? Buxton that is it. I think Buxton would flourish under Rowson as manager. He, Rowson has been with the Marlins, Tigers, Yankees and has done a good job with younger hitters on those teams. Our best season in hitting in recent memory is the Bomba squad of 2019. I think Rowson had a really good impact on the Twins from 2017 to 2019. I want a manager that has some familiarity with Twins organization, but will also push the team and hold the hitters accountable. The Guardians had success hiring a fist time manager that doesn't fit the mold of somebody already tried in MLB. We need a manager that will get the best effort out of guy's like Wallner, Brooks Lee and Royce Lewis and Byron Buxton. I believe James Rowson can be that manager that pushes the right buttons from line-up's, pinch hitting, to bullpen usage. Benchwarmerjim and Chembry 2
