I don't deny that, but it's the first definitive article I've seen with someone stating it's a done deal.

I still think it’s an opinion, though, and not a done deal. It’s the most likely outcome, I admit, but unless Boras or Correa has said that, specifically, to a journalist, which would be all kinds of improper, imo, I think it’s a NY journalist telling Minnesotans they just aren’t going to win.

Can you point to any wording by Sherman (not the Eric Strack summary you posted the URL to) that indicates there is any new information?  Sherman's article is an overview of the coming free agent season for SS, and his comments about Correa look like a distillation of what a majority of people were saying the day the contract was signed, and nothing more. Sherman's a writer in New York giving his views, and a guy on a fan site breathlessly picked up on it and amplified it beyond what is known by anyone but the player himself.

For the record, it's always been my take that we'll have Correa for one year, barring injury, so I don't disagree with Sherman's tea-leaf reading at all.

Yeah, well Carlos has a wife and some kids.  As far as I can tell, he will base his decision around what is best for them and not what the New York Media Mafia thinks is conventional wisdom.  Last I heard, they love it in Minnesota.

Once you make that kind of money, money is no longer the limiting factor in making the next decision.

Carlos and the family like it in Minnesota.  It's the kind of place you wouldn't need to spend a lot of money to be happy.

I don't care what he does. The contract never should have been offered in the first place. He is no better or worse than the most of the roster but makes "10" times as much. Unless he single handedly carries the Twins to a World Series title the deal is a disaster. Its obvious that the deal was done out of pure desperation by the brain trust who felt like they had to do something.

I wish this was true but he has an agent, and Boras got Falvey to pay exactly $100K more than the highest paid SS for a reason. Boras will not allow him to be paid less than any other SS. I am more inclined to think he re-ups with us for another $35.1M in 2023.

Are you serious? Carlos Correa is the best shortstop the Twins have had in a very long time. You're gonna say he's no better or worse than most of the roster? He is top 5 in the entire league for his position, something that's not easy to say for most of the other players on this roster. Every stat (Which I'm gonna assume you despise because only nerds and geeks use them, based on your previous commenting history) says that he's one of the best, even the conventional "old school stats" that have been around forever, say so.

This. The Sherman piece is about the up coming SS class, and he's just setting the table by saying Correa and Bogaerts are opting out (which I think basically everyone who follows baseball has been saying since the start of the season). The Sherman article is actually encouraging from a Twins perspective as it points out the performance of last year's big SS class (plus Lindor) has not lived up to the contracts they signed which may (highly unlikely) mean teams won't be willing to go so high on the class this year. He even points out that Story and Correa struggled to get paid last year (the lockout played a role there so take that with a grain of salt). This was in no way a "breaking news" type of story, and the original linked article was just a local guy trying to get clicks (good for him, that's his job).

Carlos seems like a good dude.  I hope he enjoys MN and wants to stay.  But, his agent doesn't give to poops about where his clients are at.  Boras only wants to squeeze every last penny for his clients.  I hope there is a happy medium and we can continue to have one of MLB's top shortstops next year!

Well as I've commented before that contradicts everything Correa himself has been reported as saying.  He has been reported saying he likes minnesota, his favorite restaurant juicy Lucy's is in minnesota, he sees his contract as a 3 year deal not a one year deal and is open to a longer term deal in minnesota.  Also if the twins were expecting him to leave after this year why would they play royce Lewis in center field.  And why would he consider opting out this off season with a shortstop heavy free agent class again and Aaron judge being available after what happened last off season,  he would be wiser to wait at least one more year

The Twins are going to have 60M or so to spend in free agency next year and they have next to no internal players in desperate need of an extension. Unless this team all of a sudden changes organizational prerogative and starts signing pitchers to big money contracts, one of those big four shortstops is most likely where they'll spend their money.

I don't know if I'd say "most likely," but it certain makes a ton of sense and seems super doable at this point in their talent cycle. Cheap young players all over the roster should equal the ability to sign an expensive SS.
