Upgraded prospects at the cost of 4 million. I like the trade an awful lot.

MLB.com has already slotted Littell in as the Twins No. 16 prospect between Lewis Thorpe and LaMonte Wade--two guys I think have a chance to be major league contributors.

Gives us an idea of the depth of the Yankees organization relative to the Twins.

 

The Twins are deeper now without messing with the major league roster.

 

In: Littell, Ens, Moya, Recker

 

Out: Murphy, Ynoa, pile of cash

Have you looked at Enns numbers in 2016, Seth? Other than he missed part of this year and 2015, could he be the better of the two prospects?

Littell, plus Enns, plus that minor league catcher for YNOA and $4+ million looks to me to be an excellent net result.

 

I don't think Enns is a prospect, not a Top 30 type, but that doesn't mean he couldn't fill a role with the Twins, either as a #6 or #7 starter or as a reliever. 

 

But I definitely think their willingness to take on Garcia's salary netted them a better prospect, even if I'm higher on Ynoa than most.

Yes, this is the odd thing and what gives me pause about Littell (still a fantastic trade). The numbers and the age indicate that he should be higher but something is holding back rankers (not real scouts).

Enns career ERA in the minors is 1.87 in almost 400 innings. I almost always ignore ERA but that is hard to ignore.

 

I read somewhere that Enns is on the 40-man roster this season with the Yankees, but that he likely wouldn't survive the offseason on their 40 man... But his numbers seem to indicate that he could be a solid back-of-the-rotation guy. Not a bad second prospect in a deal for a rental...

 

And, frankly, that seems like a solid strategy. As the Twins look toward 2018, 40-man roster plans should factor in... If they can get a guy added to a deal by saying, "You know he's not going to stay on your 40-man this offseason anyway...", they should. If nothing else, the Twins get five to six weeks to make their own decision on that.

And none of the four players added is on the 40-man roster. Of course, they'll have to make decisions on all four of them this offseason, but that's alright. Having tough decisions to make is a good problem!

Ynoa may have the greater upside but Littell, Moya and Enns all have a chance to help in 2018. Ynoa is years away.

Just from what I read here it appears the Twins have improved their organizational pitching strength with these two trades. As I've said before, I think the goal of the front office should be for the organization to support a major league team that can contend for the postseason every season. This will not happen overnight given the current state of our pitching. I'm hopeful that we can contend for the postseason in 1-2 years and every year following.

I'm happy about the trade - nice flip of Garcia there. It appears that the Yankees wanted/needed to open up a 40-man spot and threw in Enns, but Littell is clearly the big name here. Glad to see the rebuild hopefully gaining traction. Winning was fun - but since the Twins are done winning it's time to see what this new 2-headed monster Falvine can do. Enjoyed this one, can't wait to see what's next!

I guess I don't mind this trade considering Garcia is a big injury risk to resign this off-season.

And if the Twins liked what they saw in Garcia, they could go out and get him as a FA this winter.  I don't hate him on a team friendly deal

 

As for the trade, love it.  Makes Yankee fans upset, adds much needed pitching depth.  Well done Falvine

New York wanted Garcia, was busy negotiating on Sonny Grey, but did not want to add payroll (are they at the limit?  beyond?)

 

So, Twins take the financial hit, get two prospects closer in to MLB and give up one and get one start from Garcia.

 

Yanks get a professional SP, give up two guys they would have trouble protecting on the 40-man.

 

Win, win, win.

At the moment i would say Berrios and Mejia are not competing for a spot so along with Santana we have 3 rotation spots taken.   That leaves the rest competing for 2 spots.   Right now I hope it is Gonsalves and Romero just based on reports and minor league stats.

That seems like a fair trade all around

This is the Twins, that I have been a fan at 8 yrs. old and Twins Daily Site??????????

I think most people are underestimating Dietrich Enns. His numbers are good, and he's 26. Assuming the Twins have him on the 40 man roster, he could be in the Twins rotation sooner than later.

Littell - Scouted by Barragan in mid-May. Barragan projects him as a #5 or a long reliever. I know nothing about Barragan's projection accuracy.

 

I respectfully disagree with him here, I think Littell has the potential of being a #3 if he continues to improve.

Enns - A Tommy John alum and scouts have the usual skepticism that goes along with that. Projects to be a #4 guy in the majors, at best, in spite of his great numbers in the minors. I can see him being a #3 and possibly a #2 in his peak years.

This was a good trade for the Twins, they flipped a #3 rental for two pitchers who may also end up being #3s. As we know, the organization is lacking in #3s.  Good move.
