I just don't get it. Let him learn by his mistakes. Check out Verlander's career, if you don't believe me.

nytwinsfan Provisional Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Quade said innings one and two weren't big-league worthy, when the Chiefs hit at least four balls hard. Ahhh, I see, well then, good thing our current rotation never throws non-big-league worthy innings.
nytwinsfan Provisional Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Which happens first: Berrios call up, or Sano demotion?Sano isn't going to be demoted, so the former.

Should have called up Berrios and had Tommy face a bad Atlanta team.

Major League Ready Verified Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 After August 1, this becomes a different conversation. Right now, the team is anticipating losing a SP or hopefully two with the next week. Now is not the time. As a matter of fact this is management 101 stuff. Making a change RIGHT NOW would be absolute incompetence. Let the week play out and then make informed decisions. If you are frustrated that they are waiting until the deadline plays out then you are bound to be frustrated. Keeping him in AAA After August 1 is a different story. I MIGHT buy that they are working on something that is better done at AAA instead of at the ML level but I don't have the experience and knowledge necessary to challenge their thinking on what's best for the development of Berrios as a ML SP.
Boom Boom Verified Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 No GM is going to change their opinion of Santana, Milone, or Nolasco based on however many more innings they pitch before the trade deadline. They're not building value.
ShouldaCouldaWoulda Verified Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 once someone gets traded or after deadline. Only pitcher he could replace now not on the block s Duffey, and he should replace him.

I would be appalled if the Twins promoted Berrios right now. Why? Cause I'm hoping they are trying to shed as many of our crappy pitchers as possible, and it's hard to sell Milone as an MLB starter if he's AAA! Now come August 2 and he's still not up, that's when I'll be mad.
jud6312 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I think our first mistake was assuming that things would be different with Terry out the door. When questioning Antony's thought process through his "audition," let's always ask ourselves "WWTD?" Because that's exactly how it's going to go. Antony is either just a marionette on the end of Terry's strings and this "search" is a sham or he's the dumbest job hunter ever ... you're going to lean heavily in your decision-making process on the guy that just got fired and expect it to end well for you?
mikelink45 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I was impatient to have him come up the end of last year, I was frustrated with they handled his short promotion this year and I am disgusted with the delay in calling him up right now. Do we want to wait until he throws enough to need a Tommy John in the minors?
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 "sell Milone" and "Milone's value"? Gee The guy should be Blackburned...
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Berrios should absolutely be up on August 2nd (or officially whichever day would be his next start after Aug 1). I have no problem with them waiting until they see what happens with their starters and the trade deadline. I think they could get a low-level minor leaguer for Tommy Milone. I think they'll just have to DFA Nolasco. Either way... something will happen and Berrios will be up.

Seriously, Nolasco and Milone (and probably Santana) are probably better candidates for August trade waivers than the upcoming deadline. Should the Twins just push Berrios back to September 1st too?
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I'm convinced the twins are the only franchise that would let this happen. Nolasco and Milone getting starts over him right now is pure comedy.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Berrios has had an ERA of 1.09 in his last 7 starts in AAA. There is no reason why he shouldn't be up in the majors, learning how to succeed in the bigs right now. He needs to take his lumps now and not next season. If he's still pitching in AAA after August 2nd... I might blow a gasket. Same goes for Chargois.
kab21 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I said when Berrios was sent down that he shouldn't be back up until August. It took him 5 starts (the 4th was great) to get things sorted out in AAA and now he is putting together a dominant run. You can argue that he should be up now but I wouldn't have called him up weeks ago after 4 great starts in a row. I would have done the same with Buxton. He put together a great month and has looked awful at the plate again.
