Rosterman Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/non-tender-candidates-7.html Looks like Ben Revere joins other former Twins like possible backup catchers Rene Rivera and Drew Butera, and starting pitcher Vance Worley, as non-tender candidates. Would Ben Revere be a logical pickup for a season back in Minnesota to patrol centerfield or be a fourth outfielder, if necessary? Would he come back to Minnesota if offered a suitable contract, and what might that amount be. Looks like the Twins will try and work things out with such names as Casey Fien and Mr. Nunez, both of whom are still decent deals, but I do wonder what they would ultimately contribute to the Twins in 2016, at what price, and if they truly do have any value or takers elsewhere in the realm of major league abseball.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Might be a good leadoff guy and leftfielder. Let Rosario play center, not Revere with his noodle arm. If he ends up a 4th OF, at some point, he would still have value.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I can see why he was not tendered. Projected to get close to $7 million in arbitration? Yuck. I would certainly welcome Revere back to be the stop gap OF until Buxton and Kepler are ready. All depends on the price, really.
theBOMisthebomb Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I'd rather go with the young guys like Buxton and Kepler and experience some growing pains rather than recycle Revere. The upside is too tantalizing to ignore.

He and Terry Ryan have a very close relationship. However, I don't know that he would want to come to a situation where he may not play every day from Day 1. From the Twins standpoint, he's not much of a CF or LF defensively (at least that's what the stats say), and he's a #9 hitter in this lineup most likely.
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I want the young guys to play, but Revere is one of my favorites so I would definitely welcome him back.
John Bonnes Site Manager Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Just to be clear, Revere is a candidate to be non-tendered, right? It isn't that he was non-tendered already. Or did I miss that? He would be due about $7M, I would think. I wouldn't blame them for going a different way. I also wouldn't blame them for paying it for a one-year deal.

Correct... a candidate... they have until Wednesday to decide. Depends on how much they want to hand over to Dalton Pompey, I suppose.

He would have lead the team in BA, OBP and double up the next guy in SB. Wouldn't you like a better OBP guy leading off and guy that can steal a base?
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I think Revere makes a lot of sense on this team for 2016. He can play center or left if Buxton or Rosario spend any time in Rochester. Revere can hit at the top of the order, allowing Dozier to bat 2nd and Mauer to move down to around 7th. He can be a fourth outfielder and/or late inning pinch runner.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 IF he's non-tendered, seems like a pretty good candidate for the Twins OF. The Twins really don't have 4 outfielders right now. They might have only one (Rosario).
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Sure... at $550K....... sign him up. Showcase the noodle arm. He can run bases in late innings, talk a walk (whoops - but he did have a career high of 32 last year in 634 PA's), smile, and would be a defensive replacement for Park (who he is still a year younger than....) or Murphy or Arcia or Sano or Santana or Mauer or Nunez or Escobar or Plouffe in the late innings when they are playing outfield. He could continue his power surge after 2 homers in each of 2014 and 2015. Oh...... and the singles will be nice, too. Hell, sign both Span and Revere, and then flip the pair of aging true outfielders at the trade deadline from the luxurious bounty of outfield surplus, and get us some AA pitching prospects! Hamburger, baby!

But when he's in the outfield he can always hit the cutoff man.....

The Twins really don't have 4 outfielders right now. They might have only one (Rosario).its true. If, as many think, Buxton starts in the minors we have Rosario. I am really hopeful of having an outfield by the end of the year of Rosario, Buxton and Kepler and do not want to go backwards in terms of outfield defense. As far as Revere goes, speed plays best in center field regardless of arm. If he has not lost any speed he will get more batters out that advance on his arm. Because of his lack of power I always said he needed to get on base around 35% of the time to be worthwhile whether with hits or walks. He came close last year and as was pointed out did better than any of the current Twins except for Sano. He would be a very good leadoff hitter and I would put Mauer in the #2 spot with Dozier either 3rd or lower in the lineup. Mauer is still the better OBP guy. I don't think it would be a bad move at all given the loss of HIcks, the uncertainty of Buxton and the lack of quality defense among the other candidates.
T.C. Provisional Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I would certainly be on board for this. If he were on the Twins last year he probably could have been our team MVP (2015 WAR-2.6 Twins best: Plouffe 2.5). At the risk of being brutalized by the "numbers guys", I'm also a little worried about what the clubhouse vibe will be next year. I think Torii had a huge impact on the team in that department and I'm not sure where that fire will come from this year. I think Ben has the potential to be that leader in the clubhouse that I think the Twins will greatly miss next year.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 If he's not tendered, I be all for it if the price was right. We certainly have a lack of outfielders right now. And I still don't see Sano playing outfield.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 IF...and I think it's a fairly large IF...the Twins really believe that Buxton is better served spending some time at Rochester to begin the season, (and to be clear, how can we know for sure until ST?) Then I don't think Revere is a bad sign. He hits some, has an OK-ish OB, good speed, and can chase stuff down in the OF. I don't think it would be a bad short term option at all.
Baseball Bat Provisional Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 If we trade Plouffe, we should absolutely look into signing Revere. I think Revere is a perfect 4th outfielder on a playoff team. He could start for the first few months and also leadoff if need be until guys like Buxton and Kepler are fully ready to takeover in which case Revere can be a valuable guy off the bench.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 That list misses a few Twins for my liking No news until a couple days from now.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Seems I read a lot of opinions about how meaningless spring training performances and stats are right here on these boards. If that is actually true, what would be found out about Buxton's readiness in spring training?
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I think he'd be an ideal signing. We need a guy that can step in if (and it's a fairly likely if) Buxton has to spend time in the minors.

HitInAPinch Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Nah. I like Revere a lot, but his arm just doesn't cut it. That'd make him DH in my book. And that'd make the outfield: Rosario in left, Arcia in right on Sano in center. Because Sano runs pretty good for a guy his size.

Revere would be a good choice if possible. I might even trade a minor prospect instead of competing in FA for him. 7M is a little expensive but he is exactly what the Twins need this year. He isn't just needed for backing up and likely starting in CF for awhile but he can also start on the corners if any of the prospects are injured or struggling.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Revere would be a nice fit. I don't know what he would do as far as the two out-of-options young guys (Santana and Arcia), but he could provide protection in the event Buxton isn't ready, he could be a capable leadoff guy with game-changing speed, and a decent fielder despite his arm. With both Arcia and Rosario able to play right, I don't think we'd have to worry about seeing Ben in right field. I'd love to see that top two hitters being Revere and Buxton--catchers would have some anxiety.

They might have only one (Rosario). Agreed. With Hicks being traded away and Hunter retiring, there are now two spots to fill in the outfield. I'd welcome Span or Revere back. We need a lead off hitter and at least one outfielder, so I'd welcome either of those two guys back.
dgwills Provisional Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I'm all for a 1 year contract with Revere. He'd fit well with the Twins next year.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Ben had a .342 OBP last year and he got better at the end of the year. An average bat, with speed, who can actually field? I think he would have numerous offers.
